Their skytrain attendant interview is a joke. They give 3 customer service and safety scenarios and expect you to answer them all completely perfect in lines with the answer they deem is correct.

About 4000 ppl apply every year and only 15- 20 are selected. They mostly select oldies who don't do their job properly and are never on the skytrain Floor. They probably sit down in the employees room and chill. 

Thats one of the reasons you will hardly see skytrain attendants on the stations.

I gave interview 4 times in 4 years and never made it past group interview stage coz they did not want to hire a brown guy.

I had 6 years of face to face/ direct customer service exprnce. Had more than necssry qualifications for first aid . i also had 2 degrees from reputable vancvr colleges but they did not hire a promising hard working candidate like me who can stay on floor nd work sincerely for hours instead they wanna give o.t money to middle aged people who are protected by union and slack off their job nd chill.

If you are gonna pay 100000$ a year to skytrain attendants atleast make sure they stay on floor nd help the commuters.

Bottom line is- they think brown people cannot do good customer service..all the ads about diverse work cultre etc is a hoax.



As a front liner you are a customer service representative 1st and train hustler 2nd. Exposed to violence,  met with negative and hostility alot from the people we serve. We are seen as a transit authority and the company will put you in that role but you are powerless and if something occurs you will have to defend you job even though you were put in that situation by them.  Management is always looking to find a reason to discipline and most Management in the field are not qualified.  They look to discipline staff to be seen by upper management as "working " so there are alot of tyrants who either got the job from nepotism or because of a sudden shortage in numbers.  Sadly leadership is not in abundance here. While there are some great ones. Too often they will not stand when their team unnecessarily falls on the sword because upper management mandates some kind of punishment to set examples. 
So lots of negativity from public and more from management.  Union reps are friends with company and often go out socially.  Representation lacks more.every year.

A typical day involves safety-critical, hands-on work in a structured environment where procedures matter. I learned a lot about transit infrastructure, teamwork, and working under strict rules. Management is highly process-driven, though communication can sometimes feel reactive rather than proactive. Workplace culture varies by department and crew; some teams are supportive while others feel pressured and rigid. The hardest part of the job is the physical demands combined with night work and inconsistent communication. The most enjoyable part is gaining specialized skills, working with experienced coworkers, and contributing to infrastructure that serves the public.

Pay and benefits is great for what is expected of the job. The job itself is fairly dynamic and multifaceted in that your roles encompass security-related functions, customer service, first aid and train driving and basic troubleshooting. 

Company that only listens to upper management and has a complete disregard for general workers. The Human Resources department are content to take upper management's opinion of others without question. They support upper management blindly while treating workers and junior management with no respect for their opinions or experience. They do not conduct exit interviews if the review may be damning, only if it's positive. The company in general does not practice a respectful workplace, anti bullying or work life balance. I do not recommend working for this company.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Every shift had a similar routine but every shift was different and exciting.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When things went sideways and you had to be focused and react with your training.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture is diversified. People from different cultures add to the mix.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Familiar faces and voices...task that must be done for day and night shifts. Routine scheduled tasks from other departments.

As a supervisor at BCRTC (Skytrain) the daily responsibilities were varied and unique. We were required to deal with departmental concerns from budgeting to staffing and all points between. as well, the Track Mtce. supervisor was responsible for planning and organizing all work activities (both the Skytrain mtce. departments and any contractors) on the guideway, during the maintenance window to ensure that all activities could be carried out in a safe productive manner.

Company's safety department is not concerned with employee safety and staff are not supported by the HR department. The morale is low and workers (not unionized) feel stressed and insecure everyday due to the parent company's mandate of being clueless and uncaring. They've taken a company that used to work well and populated it with incompetent management. The pay is below industry standard now, with the poor management and poor morale there is no incentive to work for there.

BCRTC is part of a growing industry. SkyTrain started in 1985 and has grown ever since with more than 1100 staff today. Work is challenging but also interesting because of the many large projects that are going on. Some may find all the changes difficult, but the leadership team is trying to do things differently. They offer good benefits and have proven to be a reliable employer when COVID-19 hit Vancouver.

I worked Night shift in guideway and it has been the worst experience ever.  Most of the senior workers feel entitled and show superiority to the new employees. The bullying is constant and if you stand up for yourself they will run to the supervision and cry. I have never worked in a company where so called men behave like little gossiping girls.  There are a couple of good people in the company but do yourself a favor and do not work for Guideway.
