The Senior Leadership and Management teams care deeply about employee wellness and team success.  Training and coaching is extensive and ever-improving.  The most recent team engagement results score a 4.08 out of 5 across 40+ questions and is the best measure of how our "entire team" feels. We don't encourage overtime, but if a colleague notifies the leadership team that they need to work some in order to provide an exceptional client experience, we give back equitable lieu time to them ASAP based on their preference (e.g. leave early for a weekend).  2020 entailed much more rapid change than usual due to Covid, and the firm has focused heavily on improving our internal communication and change management as we grow.  The Client Services team (comprised of Debt Relief Specialists, Restructuring Consultants, Licensed Insolvency Trustees and Supportive Leaders) is filled with intelligent, passionate and caring people that respect each other and want to help as many Canadians as possible...as well as each other.  The environment is definitely aligned to a high performance culture and our remuneration, monthly incentive plan and comprehensive benefits sets us apart from other firms.  From a career growth standpoint, there is ample ability to move into other vertical or lateral single-contributor or leadership positions. 1. The firm only cares about profits- your contribution is not recognized, no appreciation, no care and empathy for their employees
2. No opportunity for growth-you worked long hours to be successful with your role, yet, there's no opportunity for you to grow
3. It's toxic, unhealthy and very stressful in an unimaginable way- your job is threatened most of the time, creating an enormous amount of anxiety and fear which is very detrimental to your well-being. Had to go through therapy for PTSD because of them.
4. No one advocates for their employees, when you try to stand up for your right, and let your voice be heard, you get a warning
5. Your self-worth is definitely questioned everyday; be prepared to lose them if you want to keep your job
6. You always have to come to the office feeling awful and fearful that you'd be fired at any point in time
7. They keep changing policies and implementing them right away and then get a warning if you're not following them with no room to makes mistakes.
8. Favoritism is very prominent, managers especially picked who they like and not based on the amount of years you gave to the company. Hiring new people who absolutely have no clue about insolvency.
9. They set impossible targets, not considering the amount of people working and the quality of the leads they're giving.
10. They implement constant follow ups to clients and rushed them to file for insolvency to hit their targets and do not give enough time for clients to think.
11. The management keeps advertising incentives when the target is impossible to reach given the amount of people they keep on hiring to compete.
12. They can and will fire you without warning, not even giving you an opportunity to be heard, like you got no family depending on you and and make excuses just to let people go.
13. If you value your worth, please stay away from this company, you're doing yourself a favour  by not wasting your time here!


I have been with this company for a few years and we have seen some monumental change in that time, many of these reviews have come prior to those changes.

What this company has to offer:

- Amazing trustees and RCs who are always willing to give you the time of day to absorb as much insolvency knowledge as you can
- An excellent incentive structure which has been implemented in the last 6 months, great benefits, and nice vacation flex
- Challenging and rewarding work

One of the biggest on-going challenges for working at Bromwich and Smith is the high pace of performance needed to succeed - its not for everyone. The client files do not have black and white answers, there is a lot of interpretation and you need to be adaptable while you immerse yourself in all there is to learn about insolvency. Each manager has their own style, so your experience here can largely be dependent on who you navigate it with. 

The people who succeed here are those who are engaged to learn, think outside the box, and have a natural ability to connect with people deeply. They also love the grind, and understand that our job is one that needs to adapt to our clients situations. This sometimes means working extra hours outside our schedule, to ensure someone gets out of a terrible situation - for the successful employees, this is worth it. For those who with to keep "banker's hours" its another reason why they do not succeed.  

All in all, I have nothing but good things to say about BSI - this is a great company with amazing people. If you are reading this and considering working here, understand it isn't a cushy desk job and you have to enjoy / expect to perform here - if you do, you can make a good living and really make a difference in your clients lives.

Ever since I started working here, I enjoy being in this productive, fast-pace yet very much supportive and compassionate work environment.
It is amazing to see and experience that employees not only look after their clients but also look after each other.

New employees are given the time and resources to get up to speed through relevant training programs and on the job coaching.

Management is helpful, approachable and empower employees so that they can grow and be successful in their job. They accept and embrace diversity.

The company is growing so there are plenty of growth opportunities if you want to enhance your skills and move forward in your career.

The members of the management team are knowledgeable people with a goal of making the company and their team members successful through helping people getting out of their financial troubles. Also, they are always looking for ways to improve things, accept constructive feedback and open to make changes if it serves the future of their team and the organization overall.

Do things work perfectly at Bromwich+Smith? Certainly not, just like in any businesses, however, we all do our best to make this a better workplace.

It's a very busy business environment and you do need to prove yourself through hard work but if you are looking for a place where your hard work gets rewarded, this is the right one.

Boy where do I even begin:
1. Company's vision and action don't align, encourages aggressive and pushy sales tactics despite claiming fairness and empathy. 
2. Pretend to create a "fair" platform for everyone to succeed, in reality the system is flawed, toxic, unfair. Favoritism can be found everywhere. If you do well you can get away with anything, but god forbid if you have an off month.. see point 4. 
3. Advertises as salary+incentive, however incentive is impossible to achieve. Management adds more employees to compete for stagnant amount of leads. Only about 10% of people actually hit minimum target, even then the bonus is abysmal. 
4. Can and will terminate without notice and warning. Actually uses fake excuses to let people go.
5. Pay is low for the amount work that's needed to even be competitive.Despite not requiring overtime, extra shift on day off, staying late, come in early is basically required just to catch up.
6. Unnecessary management positions. They hire people who absolutely no idea about insolvency to educate employees on how to sell insolvency. 
7. Trusting people is not advised. Whether if it's about insolvency knowledge, or just anything in general. Keep your mouth shut to keep your job. 
8. They can and will fire you, instead of laying off to prevent you getting EI.
9. Despite having full capability to work from home, refuse to let any employee to work from home during COVID19 pandemic. 
10. This company maybe for you, if you are seriously compassionate about working with people who are in financial ruins. Otherwise keep your empathy to those who actually need it.
11. Benefit is mediocre at best.

I came here looking to find the right environment and fit for me after working numerous jobs that I felt unappreciated and under paid at.  I made the right decision.
  
I thoroughly enjoy the friendly, productive and fast paced environment. 
 
As the company is in a growth stage there is plenty of room for advancement as teams develop.  As well as the company grows the management team is always open to collaboration on how to work with the growth in all the different facets.

The management team is very knowledgeable but at the same time humble.  Each individual of the management team has their own strengths that compliment any weaknesses to make a very diverse and strong team to lead the company through the growth.

Like any company going through growth, there are bumps along the way.  However, ride it out and you will find yourself working in a collaborative and supportive environment with some pretty amazing co workers!

Although we are going through Covid currently, there is a social committee that plans events so you can socialize with your co workers outside of the office.  These events are always alot of fun and I can't wait until we can start having them again.

All in all, if you like a fast paced, fun environment to work in this is the place.  If you are looking for a slower paced job then this may not be the right fit for you!

The minute I joined Bromwich+Smith, I was welcomed by not only members of my direct team but also others throughout the company. Due to Covid-19, I started and remained in a remote work environment and that didn't hinder me in my role at all. The company figured out how to make remote work function very well and I always felt I had a sense of trust from my team and all the support I needed. It's a small company so you get to know people quickly and I was impressed with everyone I encountered. My opinions and ideas were encouraged and taken seriously and I was given feedback on a regular basis. Management & HR communicated regularly regarding what was happening throughout the company as well as return to work possibilities. They had been looking at different possibilities for the future, rather than mandating everyone back to work full-time, which I appreciated. 
The people who work at BSI are kind, compassionate, caring and hardworking. Unfortunately, I was on a short-term contract opportunity which ended, but I was sent off so sweetly by my team members and would return to the company if the opportunity came up, in a minute! I loved my time at Bromwich+Smith and would definitely recommend the company to others!

Bromwich+Smith to me is a trail blazer and a future focused company.  Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, they serve BC, AB, SK and ON by utilizing technology like toll free numbers, video counselling and signing. Bromwich+Smith has a vision and has created a scalable business model to continue to grow and serve.  At Bromwich+Smith the core values are not just wall hangings, but something that each person lives out daily and what we use to filter our decisions through.  
I find leadership easy to approach, open and willing to work through challenges.  Things don't always go as fast or smoothly as we would like but their heart is in the right place. 
People are great, work hours and spaces are great too. There are benefits and they could be better but they are better than many other employers. They offer RRSP matching, health benefits and vacation time. The social committee makes things fun and interactive. The work we do is important and helps Canadians and that fits my values. 
Is there room for improvement? Of course as always but overall it's a fair, fun place to work that values people and works through an ethical framework

Bromwich and Smith is a great firm to work for. There is a lot of learning, responsibilities, freedom – I am told what is needed and I’m free to decide the how’s, work life balance – I’m not expected to work beyond my 9 – 5 and the pay is decent.     

Exposure at the firm is immense! We are dealing with the general public, the government, the courts, all the banks and financial institutions in the country, lawyers and accountants. Reviewing assets, liabilities, income & expenses and taxes of individuals and their businesses. We also get reliable tools and technology to perform our duties efficiently and without stress. Best part of working here is the opportunity to listen to each client’s unique story, learn from them and do our best to help them.

The owners are caring and too humble for running an organization that employs over a hundred people, they have my respect for that. My manager is supportive, friendly and a great mentor. The employees represent true Canada – polite, helpful, diverse and fun to work with!

I’m trying to think of some negatives of working here and can only think of things like – my salary is not a million dollars or that I cannot take a nap in the office.

A typical day at work included talking to(desperately trying to sell to) people about their debt, threatened at least once by management to get more sales, etc, being micro-managed to the point the term 'micro-managing' is a normal everyday thing.
I learned, after being disrespected at every turn(by people who dont know what they're doing which really stung), to question everything I do and not to trust anyone during my time at BSI. 
Absolute worst manager of all time.
The culture of Bromwich and Smith is more like 4 Pillars than a other insolvency companies due to the sales targets. Everyone is always on edge due to the constant threats and general depressing nature of the business, not to mention because of the very high turnover rate.  
The hardest part of the job was working under workplace bully and it is sad that it is allowed to continue.  
The most enjoyable was connecting with the clients and in certain cases having a big impact on their life.
Note: they are stocking up on employees who will NOT speak up, they are hiring 'Yes, people' who are likely not sleeping at night due to fear but will still not speak up.
