Brunswick Steel

It was really exciting to come over to Brunswick in the beginning. They really upped the culture during interviewing about "team" effort and collaboration. After a few weeks it was  quickly realized that most of the office management is hot headed and harsh. They have a GM whose great and could likely do big things for the company however, owners tie his hands behind his back and limit his abilities. Mgmt also does not promote team effort, as they make it VERY clear they are above you. They have special management parking, regularly boast about their extra curricular management functions with one another which employees are NEVER invited too, it makes for very awkward small talk. The Sales Mgr was under so much pressure because his team was unable to sell half of anything due to inventory stock outs or accounts holds. The sales team was toxic, bickering with one another, revolving door for those that want a friendly work space. The power struggle caused a lot of tension. Sales mgr pretty much did whatever the two girls in the department tell him to do and doesnt seem to manage anything at all, really. He was more or less their puppet and the guys in the dept took the beatings when he'd have a power trip. Consistently shut down suggestions for improvement and a lot of "thats not how we do things" & "it's not my job to fix that" attitude. 
The guys on the floor and in shipping department are constantly bombarded by office staff, barked orders to and don't really know who to listen to. Floor guys and sales staff would have screaming matches in the office. Walk in customers are treated like a nuisance.

What is the best part of working at the company?
One thing that stood out to me most was how much management respects and listens to their employees. It really feels like your voice matters, which makes for a great workplace culture. I honestly have nothing bad to say about my experience here.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
the most stressful part at first was learning all of the new material and adjusting to the role as i was new to the industry,  there was a lot to take in. However, the team was very supportive and willing to help when i needed.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is positive,  and truly supportive. Management respects and listens to their employees. It feels like your voice matters, it makes for a great culture there.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day could be very busy, with a lot going on in every direction sometimes but that also made the job exciting and fun. There was always something happening, which kept the days moving quickly. i had a great environment and worked along side some great people which made my days very enjoyable.

I enjoyed working at Brunswick Steel. I knowingly worked myself out of my job as a CNC programmer by pointing out the inefficiencies of the position. I then created work procedures for each operator to program their machines themselves thus making me unneeded expense. Basically I would lay out the cut patterns for the material to be cut but if the was a defect in the material the operators would bring the program back to me & tell me to adjust around the defect. They would then either wait for me to get back to their specific program or they would remove the material & replace it once it was reprogrammed. I rightfully thought if they could program their own machines then it would cut down on their down times. It worked & I was no longer needed.

You can easily feel at home in this company. It didn't take long for me to feel 'family-vibes' environment around here. The people are awesome to work with, even the members of the management team are always open to communicate with its employees at any given time. They are very active in numerous social events to create a good work-life balance for its employees. Every now and then they will have activities and perks like free lunches, bowling, game tickets, holiday parties just to name a few.

Right now the company is undergoing a massive expansion -- new building and additional state-of-the-art machines! I wish Brunswick Steel the best of luck! Hoping to see how it turns out in the future. Cheers!

The General Manager and Production staff are awesome and always willing to help. 

The Sales Manager is a great guy and very knowledgeable about the Industry.  He needs to be able to manage and not handled like a puppet by the President of the company. 

The President is the weakest link and as long as he's in charge this company will never get to where it can and deserves to be. 

Employees deserve to be treated well and not treated like garbage when he feels like it. The way hes treated and let go some of the employees in the past 2 years is downright pathetic. "Karma will return the favor".  

I had alot of ups & downs at Brunswick, the fact is they do NOT give a hoot about the boy's & (laddies) on the floor,
The supervisors will lie directly to your face,
As well this company is under major financial stress.... ( in debt)
I will never work for a company in such debt as this again, actually surprised the doors are even still open for business at this point....

my day at work was go and pick orders and load semi trailers .I got along with my co workers.Management was fine but did not let me know how i was doing on a regular bases.Hardest part of the job was not getting proper direction for the different jobs.The shift work was hard i don't mind the shift work on a rotation . I was places on midnites perm. without being asked i found that hard on my family life .Where other guys were asked what shift they wanted .

Brunswick Steel is a great place to work. They appreciate their employees and try to promote from within, when possible. Management is approachable and listen to your suggestions. They are always looking to find a better way to serve their customers and create lasting relationships with them.
I have been employed by them 23 years now, and there are several long term employees, which says alot about a company. The company has changed greatly since i started, and continues to grow while looking for new ways to neet their customers needs.

My latest experience was for mothers day, I had forgot to get the girlfriends mom a gift & wanted to get her a sign for her new trailer lot. I needed it for the weekend and I didnt think it would make there lead time.. but it made it through sales & CAD to the fiber laser in 2 days!  Just in time for the weekend. I nice coat of paint & boom, The perfect gift. Haha. She gets complements everyday she's there. .

In my almost 8 years of being with Brunswick, I have always felt like I am a part of the team. I have seen a huge positive culture shift in the last few years especially. No workplace is ever perfect, but overall Brunswick is a great forward thinking company and the managers and owners are a great bunch to work for and truly value each employee. We work hard but ensure that we have fun along the way
