As an ES, I have been provided the opportunity to learn many valuable skills, from interpersonal relations with employers, working one to one with adults with diverse abilities, and building connections in the community. The work is hybrid model with flexible hours and a variety of tasks to do in your day to day, which allows for a good work-life balance. Supervisors are supportive, want to see you succeed, and will work with you to help achieve your goals within the position. 

Yes, the work is challenging at times, but as is any job in the social services field. If you are passionate about helping make a real difference in the lives of the populations served, working at CBI will help you to fulfill that purpose. 

Working as an Employment Specialist at CBI was an incredibly rewarding experience. A typical day at work involved wearing many hats - meeting with clients, liaising with employers, conducting research, etc. There was a wide variety in tasks, and a good mix between in-office and in-community work.

I found the management team to be approachable and supportive. When meeting with my supervisor, I felt heard and like my opinion was valued. The workplace culture was inclusive, mission-driven, and team-oriented. Team members from all departments were committed to helping clients succeed, and genuinely cared about the work.

There were definitely challenges throughout my time at CBI, but most were caused by outside factors like client motivation, mental health issues or funding streams. Being an Employment Specialist felt emotionally draining at times, but witnessing my clients find successful employment made it worth it in my opinion.

Overall, working as an Employment Specialist at CBI helped me grow both personally and professionally. I would recommend working here to anyone else that wants to work in a role where they get to make a difference with a great team of people.

CBI consultants has a toxic work environment. Management only cares about making money and does not care about the Well being of staff. They will also only give  cost of living wage increases to certain staff (and deny it to others doing the same amount of work). They also pay much lower than most companies in the province for the same work. The staff turn over is very high due to these issues; and even though staff have told management the reasoning why, they refuse to change anything that will help.  I highly recommend staying away from this company.

To add, the interview process was very unprofessional with executive management making derogatory comments about my age. 

CBI has had more people employees quit within the past 3 years than they can keep up with hiring.  If you stay with this organization for more than a few years, you will reach your maximum salary and vacation with no room for growth.  The work expectations leave you over capacity and feeling less than collaborated with. Upper management acts in ways that are not aligned with 'CBI's apparent stated beliefs and approaches'. With some job expectations feeling unethical, such as signing off on restricted practices 'because the funder says so, and so CBI says so too'. If you want to feel inspired and motivated, this is not the place for you.

The job was very flexible and self directed. Most people working there were very passionate and kind. However, they had a very very poor system that consisted of salary/ hourly pay. Felt as though management was very intimidating and difficult to approach. Working there, i felt a clear difference between the managers and the other employees. Felt as though employees were very undervalued as the wages were not competitive. The staff turnover was very high and I was relieved to leave.


The work is fulfilling , if you can navigate extremely poor management with no leadership , education or communication. Be prepared to provide cookie cutter interventions with very little ability to be person Centred or provide individualized supports.
This environment is not supportive , encouraging or healthy. Expectations are to work constantly and you will burn out mentally and physically . 
It can provide a good introduction to behaviour work and additional opportunities  may arise.from your work here .


Insufficient training to do the job so you spend countless hours working for free. Also cost me money to purchase the "mandatory equipment" such as a locking filing cabinet office supplies, Velcro, a laminater, a paper shredder and cutter, ect. It cost me the wear and tear on my vehicle with promises that at tax time I would get my money back. My insurance increased by $40/ month and I never know how much I would be paid. The over pay and then leave you hanging.

- People in managment have no managment skills; poor leadership;

- Poor internal communication; very disorganized 

Best place I ever had a chance to work and grow both personally and professionally. CBI treats employees really well. Management is receptive to feedback and overall its a great place to work.
