CBI Health has unfortunately lost sight of its original mission to provide quality client care. Over the years, the organization has regressed to a point where business administration and profitability have eclipsed its clinical values. Processes are no longer designed with care delivery in mind, they are engineered to streamline administrative oversight and control costs. This shift is not just subtle; it's deeply entrenched in how decisions are made across the organization.

There was once a foundational belief within CBI that good client care would drive strong business results. That belief has all but disappeared. Today, leadership’s focus is overwhelmingly on maximizing profit, with care often treated as an afterthough or worse, taken for granted as a guaranteed output regardless of input or effort. The result has been disappointing and demoralizing, especially for those who joined the company with the hope of making a meaningful clinical impact.

A telling sign of this decline is the steady exodus of senior leaders who no longer wish to be part of a system that disregards the importance of clinical excellence. Management has increasingly taken a top-down approach to dictating care limits, not based on clinical need, but on budgetary constraints and spreadsheet-driven decisions. Programs are allocated treatment maximums that are clearly designed to protect margins, not to meet the rehabilitative needs of clients. Conversely, clients not in fixed price programs are encouraged to maximize their coverage and visits. In fact, the primary measure of therapist performance is the number of visits per patient.

This profit-first mentality has led to a widespread substitution of care providers: kinesiologists are used in place of physiotherapists wherever possible, and occupational therapists are expected to perform duties more appropriately handled by psychologists. This approach may cut costs on paper but ultimately shortchanges clients who require specialized care.

Clinicians are pushed to operate at an unsustainable pace. Burnout is rampant and turnover is high, making it nearly impossible to build or maintain team cohesion. Collaboration, once a cornerstone of effective care, has been marginalized. Weekly interdisciplinary meetings have been replaced with individual check-ins focused on productivity metrics like visit volume, or administrative needs like reporting or treatment approval, with little regard for thoughtful care planning or peer support.

In short, CBI Health has become a cautionary tale of what happens when a healthcare organization loses its clinical compass. For any serious healthcare practitioner committed to delivering quality care, there are far better options than CBI Health.

I love the job itself but the people I worked with are so toxic that makes you want to quit! The job itself was stressful and you need quick decision-making quickly since it’s in healthcare field so choosing the incorrect decision impacts your performance and the main office will tell the Supervisors what you did wrong. This job is not for everyone especially if you are a student because when I was in that situation I cannot handle stress and sometimes I just want to give up and leave my shift. It’s not easy to focus school when you have to stay overtime to finish a task. Been there, done that! Everyone knows everyone so when you become a newbie, they will talk about you, get to know you and talk about if you are terrible and your job or not. I know that because people have complained and told me that. It’s unprofessional but it’s reality. The day to day experience consist of knowing what you will be doing as soon as your shift starts without blinking. This is not a job for slackers and expect your trainers to give you directions because this job is stressful enough that you will not have support 100% so the Supervisors and your colleagues will have their own problem too so it’s every man for themselves. Training will feel short and fast but you will learn a lot in one day that you will not be able to grasp and remember everything so you need full focus and attention if you want to make it to your probation not fail. If you did something wrong, they will go easy on you at least a few times but once that’s done, they won’t say “it’s okay” after saying sorry. Like I said, it’s a healthcare environment so the job description is just a baby skill you need to pass the interview. Saying good luck to you doesn’t make any difference.

Jobs alone were simple enough and how you enjoy work is really luck of the draw if you get along with you coworkers and patients. However, as a PTA, CBI and most health clinics fall under the same trap for this kind of a position. They expect you to have a degree or experience as a PTA but once you start working you are essentially housekeeping staff and paid just over minimum wage.

You just spend your day cleaning the clinic and doing laundry while being asked to monitor multiple physio's patients at the same time and then are rushed because a table is not available for their next patient while you are already tending to 3 other clients as well as transferring laundry. 

Management refuse to hire a dedicated housekeeping staff or additional PTA's for "cost saving" reasons while also expecting the physios to see new patients every 20-30 minutes. Clients always go over allotted time as the scheduled time is never enough to receive appropriate care, and are almost always requested to return 2-3 times a week just for financial purposes. If patients were scheduled for hour sessions that would be much more efficient for both treatment and note writing for the physios, and patient's would only need to be seen once a week or every other week unless there were special circumstances e.g. post-surgical rehab requiring frequent monitoring.

While physio's often went over time with patient's, it was then left to the PTA's to pick up the slack to finish up muscle stim or IFC treatments (which were overused in my opinion) and clean to be ready for the next patient that is already late to start their own therapy.

There also seems to be an over reliance on stim or IFC treatment rather than exercise-based rehab and this is encouraged in these clinics.

When I first started working for CBI, I had read negative reviews but refused to believe them. I can now say that after working for the company, the negative reviews are quite accurate. 

As a result of the pandemic, I have found myself working overtime multiple times a week which has basically ruined my work/life balance. A lot of the time, it is expected that coordinators work extra throughout the week to be able to leave on time on Fridays. Some weeks I work 10+ hours of overtime and am still asked to sign in over the weekend. I often feel stressed out and anxious when I work as the workload and lack of support greatly impacts my ability to perform. Additionally, there is rarely proper coverage for when someone goes away and so I notice that many individuals feel guilty taking a day off because they don't want to leave more work behind for their colleagues. Management is constantly asking for the employees to do more despite knowing that staff are overwhelmed. Although they ask what they can do to support the coordinators, the help they provide creates more problems or is too temporary to make a difference whatsoever. Finally, client issues are rarely taken seriously and are always left for coordination staff to figure out on their own as the help received does not provide a satisfactory solution for the client or the caregiver involved. 

After many months with the company, I no longer find myself enjoying my role with CBI. I appreciate the experiences and the people I have gotten to know but the potential for a burnout is very high and is not worth the stress. I completely understand why the turnover rate is so high. Employees are not appreciated and are overworked.

After working for CBI for the past five years I gave my notice of resignation.   I left the company without having a job to go to but felt with all changes in the past 8 months this was not the place for me.   I interviewed five years ago and negotiated a wage a little higher then offered, luckily I did because after five years there was-no wage increase.  At each CBI location in our area new employees were being hired to fill vacant positions and offered higher salaries and hourly wages then employees that have been with the company for over 15 years.

The micromanaging started about six months ago from upper management.   “They” decide how the schedule should look.   I worked at a very busy clinic which I loved!  My work day went by fast and our clients were happy and greeted with smiles.
As the micromanaging continued staff were stressed, overwhelmed and overworked.   Staff were told numerous times by upper management that each team member should “stay in their lane”.  Unlike before we were. A Team at CBI and worked together.    Upper management destroyed the atmosphere that was once a happy place to go to work.  

We tried from the clinicians to the admin staff at our clinic to express how upper management did not understand the dynamics of each individual clinic.    They did not listen and  from what I can see on the job posting website CBI lost more employees the past few months then before….I could be wrong .

There is need sometimes for change and everyone should adapt but when on multiple levels the same complaints are coming in from different clinics shouldn’t management listen?



CBI provided me with an enriching learning experience and tremendous amount of exposure to the field that I probably would not have received anywhere else, having been a recent grad with minimal professional experience in health care. I arrived to CBI Health Group in order to gain residential field experience and they thoroughly delivered this as promised. For almost 3 years, I worked within their residential care program now known as Specialized Community Services in Ontario, with the majority of my work being in a supervisory capacity after being promoted quickly from my Residential Support Worker role. Overall, the vast majority of my experience was extremely positive and even wonderful. Management had been very supportive and facilitated an inclusive work environment. I was given greater responsibilities and the opportunity to excel was rewarding. The care and support to clients was exceptional. I planned on working long-term at CBI and loved my job immensely but issues arose that I would prefer not to make public. Unfortunately, these issues also prevented me from making the positive changes and further contributions that would have vastly improved the quality of services and ease of operations. I was really only getting started. It takes a lot of mental fortitude to leave a job that you love. Sometimes in life, you have to seek out your future self and re-evaluate the present. And by doing so, I made probably the best decision of my professional life. 

CBI Health as a company is, unfortunately, poisoned with weak and biased management. On both a corporate and clinic level, management needs a complete overhaul in order to improve staff retention levels. 

Work duties are excessive and do not allow for proper work/life balance. Tasks often included activities that were not pertinent to educational backgrounds and insufficient training was provided. Staff were often thrown into difficult situations and told to "figure it out". Although, this did lead to improved problem solving skills despite the immense stress incurred.

Benefits were adequate and was a saving grace for the pitiful salary when compared to the education required for this position. 

Based on observation, staff were often exploited beyond comfort levels in an effort to complete activities required of this position in an attempt to avoid incurring additional expenses from hiring additional staff. 

Due to the high turnover rate, staff were often expected to fulfill the duties of multiple staff members in order for work activities to be completed. 

Lunches and cakes were often provided during staff birthdays which was an added bonus. However, this did not effectively offset the stress incurred from stressors indicated above. 

This position with CBI Health, as a whole, was a learning experience of what not to look for in a career.

I have worked with the Fredericton CBI Health Group location for a year and half now and have provided the following review as a concise overview of my experience working at CBI health. 
In summary the pros of the Job are high competitive wages, lots of hours, and a meaningful impact in the clients lives if employee’s decide to invest their time and effort into the job. The cons are that working with The clients will get stressful at times and can lead to burnout, this con is further complicated with limited upper management and a tendency for CBI management to cut corners and avoid filling in on their promises to employees when it comes to employee benefits. 
My personal issue with the company was when I was denied a much needed vacation after working full time for CBI. Eventually, after continued requests for a vacation I was approved for a weeks paid vacation. As a full time employee at CBI I had been guaranteed by contract to have access to health benefits as well as two weeks paid vacation but when the time came to request for my benefits CBI managements reneged on their promises of a paid vacation by denying I was ever a full time employee. I took my case to upper management to resolve the issue in a professional manner by providing proof of my full time status on contract and pay stubs with total hours of work and the vacation amounts I had paid into each pay check. After my efforts to confront management about the issue My inquiry was ignored. 


My main responsibilities include developing new features for both the company's core desktop application and Windows mobile application.  I also frequently fix software bugs and implement functional and UI improvements.

The most difficult thing was the lack of formal training due to the shortage of workplace resources.  As such, I learned to be self-sufficient while also being able to seek out the answers I needed to perform my job.  

Generally, the culture is very supportive and coworkers are often more than willing to offer help.  Company morale is often boosted by regular social events and keynote speaker sessions.  

Due to the recent restructuring efforts, priorities have shifted and workloads have declined for more junior developers.  This change is primarily the result of an emphasis on performance improvements rather than new features.  In addition, the lack of updates and direction from management can sometimes lead to unnecessary speculation and internal turmoil.  

Overall, CBI is a good company to work for but is currently undergoing a lot of changes so things are a bit rocky until the dust settles.  Furthermore, at the moment there are not many opportunities for career advancement in software development due to the lack of projects.

I want to say that I loved my coworkers, the people I worked with day-to-day. To be honest they're the only reason I stayed working for CBI for as long as I did.
When I first got hired I did actually enjoy the job and the challenge that all the different file types gave me. However, over the years the company has change. While CBI Health is corporate healthcare it's now become more corporate, than healthcare. Upper management only cares about making more money. They preach patient care but then tie therapists hands behind their back when they try and get the patient something they know they need...all because it will "cost" the company money.
Upper management really doesn't care about their employees. Multiple different Kins have gone on stress leave during my time with the company and instead of helping out and hiring additional support...they cut staff and make everyone's life harder. Management is constantly on the Kins for getting reports completed in a timely manner but don't give Kins the time needed to do the reports. I lost count of how many time I had patients booked into "report blocks".

I really could go on, there's truly more cons than pros in my opinion. Long story short, upper management made me want to leave my position at CBI, and working at CBI has made me want to leave healthcare all together.
