This company was amazing to work for. They really cared about the individuals in the company. I learned that my job really impacted others in a positive way and the more functional we were as a team the better we helped support operations. My co-workers were great at always teaching me new things when I started and that made me more effective in helping them be more successful at their job. We faced really hard timelines but my boss had always a Can-Do attitude that as a team we worked the extra time to please the customer and that made us successful. My most enjoyable part of the job was working with my boss. She always made coming to work enjoyable and if I could do anything to make her job easier then I jumped at the opportunity to go outside of my job scope to learn more. Her moto was we succeed together. If I made a mistake she never singled me out she would just say we will get it corrected. Management was great when it came to work life balance and started a program for Earned Day Off so once a month we got an extra day off and they were flexible if people had to work at 7am or 8am or 8:30am as long as they worked their full hours. They set up Team Building exercises that were a lot of fun and we got to work with other people from the company to get to know them better. No one made anyone feel less then because of job titles. Always a smile and a chit chat on how we were doing and how pleased they were of the job we had done or were doing.

It's a very busy shop and most of the guys in the shop are ok and there is a lot of experienced guys in the shop. the company can be picky with the repairs and inspection of the equipment. The trucks get beat to pieces on site and there is no accountability to site managers and operators so be prepared to work on the same truck for days/weeks on end. shop supervisor and foreman's like to play favoritism with some techs and do have their spies in the shop.  They preach safety and teamwork but at the end of the day they only care about the numbers. one shop Forman won't trust your work and judgement. he will google and "research" answers to most everything due to lack of actual mechanical experience just to try and prove you wrong. moral in the shop has gone way downhill due to leadership problems and relations with the warehouse team. It was a great place to work but after some key employees and supervisors left due to lack of support and communication with management the moral dropped, and it became a bitter and hard place to work. 

I have worked for Ceda for 6 years and have been a site supervisor for 4 of those in the DFM division on Suncor site. I started at the bottom as a labour and with in my first 2 years was a team lead then promoted to a supervisor. The company as a whole is a decent entry level job and the people that work their are very knowledgeable and willing to teach you the job.
I would say though that the hours on site away from the family home are very long and a schedule of 14/7 does not leave a lot work/life balance.
Our management team where they have a well structured team and working relationship with our client Suncor they are some what disengaged from the field and workers.
I would say the hardest part of our job is the environment we work in. It is in the tailings sector of Suncor which i very remote and tough to traverse.
We have a very close knit team in the field level which i would say is the most enjoyable part of the job!

A very incestuous work place. Many people related or from the same area. Some fly ins and they were treated better than the bulk of workers. Supervisors and management very old school. Poor communication. Smoking rampant in pickups and areas where it was not supposed to be. Not much fairness in treatment, some workers given trucks and allowed to drive on and off site, most had to take buses. 15 hour day but only paid for 13. Work ethic pretty sloppy with lots of sleeping on shifts. Always playing hide and seek with Suncor personnel versus just doing the job.

This company has so much potential, but sadly that's all it will ever be. CEDA's core values are displayed throughout, but are practiced by very few employees (corporate at least). Yes, low oil prices have placed a fog over this industry in general, but the cancerous middle management at corporate CEDA (that continues to persevere while the head and toes are chopped off) is the real problem. These people are paid much better than industry average, are content to react to whatever issues arise- and to generalize- do not support their direct reports or the executive group. Speaking of, the current executive group is OK, but the CEO is invisible which is crippling considering the shape of the industry and internal turmoil. CEDA needs a leader that can unite the field and corporate personnel once and for all, while putting a kibosh on all the CYA, finger pointing and excuses that stop this company from being the power house it could be. It's a shame really.

A typical day would include;
-Daily company meetings
-Data entry
-Field tours
-Client meetings
-Investigations
-Document creation, review and revise (use of Microsoft Suite)

One of the most valuable things I have learned in my current position, is utilizing my ability to adapt to change. Changes in administration, responsibilities, staff etc.

Workplace culture has ebbs and flows, like any other organization. For the most part however, the culture is positive, resourceful and structured.

The hardest part of my current position is having to drive a considerable amount during the day, as well as long hours that make it a bit more difficult to balance work/life.

I absolutely adore the people I work with on every level of the organization. As well, the healthcare plan and the structure are very desirable.

Great folks in the field, the only reason why CEDA still retains the remaining contracts they do have left. 
Unfortunately this will not be enough to keep CEDA from ultimately sinking to a depth of no return.
There is absolutely no upper management support from the FMM offices and the same to be said of the Calgary Executive team. It is an absolute crime that the company has managed to get to this point, and ultimately it is the men and women in the field that have to bare the consequences of the actions or lack there of from CEDA corporate.
My one hope is that the Board steps in to right the ship before it is too late. To all of you in the trenches, keep your head up, stay focused and be safe. You all know that you are the reason that the execs/managers are still able to cash their paychecks, maybe they will realize that one day. Hopefully things will improve for us all.

Someone who does care!

A typical day at work consists of waiting to see what job you have thrown at you in the morning. I believe with my time at ceda i learned mostly about safety and how to preform jobs as safe as possible. Management was ok and supported me when i wasnt comfortable using a dump gun in an awkward position for my first time. The morale with ceda isnt all that great but i loved the colleagues i did end up working with and meeting my time there. It felt like we were a big family. The hardest part of the job for me was preparing for what job i was going to be thrown into that day, but other then that i loved it. The most enjoyable part about the job was how easy going the supervisors and foremans were and how you could actually talk to them instead of them being stuck up like other jobs i have worked at. I worked at syncrude mildred lake site.

Management is disorganized and disconnected from the field, with poor communication and inconsistent decision-making. Concerns raised by employees are rarely addressed, which creates frustration and low morale. Leadership turnover and lack of accountability make it difficult to feel confident in long-term stability or career development.

Overall, this is not a place for someone looking to build a career or grow professionally. It may work short-term, but expectations should be kept very low. 

A typical day at work was putting out fires for the rest of the company that needed training or records. Always had employees in the division for training.
When I started at CEDA I did not have a ton of experience in the Oil & Gas industry and working with learning and developent I learnt who to train new hire employees took classes in TDG and WHMIS and BIT as well as gap analyis and training matrix.
My co workers were like family we were a very tight team who generally have your best intrests in mind
Hardest part of the job would be the other teams within the company needing such differnet trainin needs and balancing the needs of each team and our team.
The most enjoyable part of my job was all the great people I got to work with on a dailey basis
