The kitchen here is very racially structured, with the chef building a team that is about 95% filipino as a first language, just like himself, begging the question of his integrity. The sous chef and saucier both have a hard time communicating in English, both speaking and understanding, which leads to a huge language gap if you only speak English. The chef only asks them for advice or suggestions, but also only supports their ideas, leaving you feeling like you can’t have input for anything. With that said, advancement feels nearly impossible when you can’t communicate properly with either of them. Everbody speaks to each other in their own language all the time, leaving you feeling very left out and sometimes wondering if they are talking about you, as gossip is very widespread. Most of the people are pleasant, but there was a couple who acted like complete children. Yelling at servers for ordering through breakfast bills right at 11am when it ends, or being in a bad mood from something personal and literally throwing things on line and talking under their breath, not even saying good morning back to you. You never knew what mood you were going to get from some people on that given day. The chef had no idea what was going on in the kitchen, with meat and produce constantly spoiling in large quantities, to other cooks taking 45-60 minute breaks watching tv on their phones. Meat will smell spoiled and chef will still insist it is good, forcing you to work with it, and leaving you torn between what you know in your heart is right, and what you are being told to do in the name of food costs. The communication is something that definitely needs improvement, as the language gap mentioned earlier translates over to the front of house team and causes confusion. When a bill is running late, a server will come to ask what’s going on, and get literally zero answer from any of the line cooks because nobody seems to care. You get pulled in to the office to ‘talk’ if you are 2 minutes late, but tips are always a day late. If you are late 15 minutes, chef will tell you he will edit your clock for half an hour later, not 15 minutes. The smokers area is a toxic environment where all the management go to gossip about coworkers and guests, with no care as to who is around, which leaves you feeling very weary about who might be talking nasty about you. The one good side was the free food, but after you see how some people care for it and the way it is stored, you start to bring your own lunches. Stay away from this place unless you enjoy picking through rotten produce and proteins almost every day, and constantly trying to set a standard of cleanliness and food safety.

Expect no breaks.
6 days a week with overtime hours for months and months on end
Next to impossible to request days off.
Was only registered as part time employee even though worked up to 60 hour weeks.
No benefits for ' part time employees'
Although 2 of the 'favorite' servers do get full benefits.
The rest do not.

Management expect unrealistic work expectations
(ex. Serving 15-20 tables + at a time with everyone arriving at the same time for a show/concert)
Little to no help from management.
30 minute break is deducted from each shift.
Breaks are NOT given
Good luck getting to the bathroom or even stopping for a sip of water.
Complaints will not  be taken seriously. 
IF you complain you will be fired.
No ever expect a raise or promotion.

Was told Century didn't have enough money for promotion and much needed raises
But then bought the Century Mile Racetrack for 
50 MILLION.

Dont expect a thanks. You will be bullied into taking shifts on your days off.
Count your tips, check your paystubs.
Your physical health will suffer
So will your mental health.

Working here one will quickly find a diverse, supportive culture. Everyone is aware of how demanding and mentally stressful the job is, though most quickly find a routine that works for them. A typical day as a supervisor will usually see 6-8 tables requiring your direct attention, and hundreds of players to track and engage with which is what makes it so important to have a reliable team and an ability to prioritize. It is not a good job if you want to work part-time elsewhere, as the demand for evening shifts will make one unavailable for work during the busiest hours of most other places.
The management structure is very rigid and advancement is generally slow. One should be willing to transfer to several casinos over several years to make this a meaningful career. The most rewarding part of the job is getting to know the regulars and celebrating with them when they do well. The most difficult part would be knowing not to take the frustrations of players personally, and that sometimes it can be hard to provide that positive customer experience when players focus on their losses.

Working at century casino is like working at a train wreck with women who will have you for money on board. If you are a terrible employee you will surely be rewarded and if you are a hard working person you will be stepped on and disciplined for everything. Management needs a serious wake up call. When you try to bring forward issues with the company in a constructive manner and then are punished and blacklisted for it afterwards. That's not cool. On top of that the General Manager and his lackeys of upper management are demeaning and will do whatever they can to save a buck at your expense. HR is for the management and not for the common employee they do not believe in confidentiality at all and will go to your manager and tell them everything. And certain security supervisors will tell all your confidential information to everyone as well. Not to mention that the casino itself is a grungy disgusting place. If you are planning on working hear head my words if you are looking for a place where you want to be unappreciated and abused pick Century Casino Calgary!

At one time Century Casino was an excellent place to work. The OWNERS are great, but the management is struggling. ( Including the new GM ) If you are looking for consistancy, Century is NOT the place for you. The management team is a ROTATING DOOR and has been for some time. They will allow their staff to struggle, instead of hiring capable staff. Staff making minimum wage are REQUIRED to train new management. Completely unfair. Egos in management get the best of some people. (bad look) Century has lost some really fantastic staff over the past year. Many laid off WITHOUT an explanation. Some quit because they just could not handle the INCONSISTENCY anymore. I would NOT recommend this place. The entry level staff and SOME supervisors really made my time here enjoyable. Overall, please dont let the smiling faces fool you. Most of the staff is un happy and unappreciated, and you will end up that way as well.

I have worked at 2 casino's previous to this one. As it goes Century is definitely my favourite! The management team is pretty great!

My typical day at work is pretty simple, I go in check the rotation and head off to whatever table I am scheduled for that night. 
I have learned a few different procedures, and most of them make a lot more sense than the ones that I am used too.
My management team is pretty great, they do what they can for the staff, when my mother passed, each one of them were understanding and made working easier, and didn't object to me taking the weekend off. 
For the most part my co-workers have been wonderful. I haven't had any problems with anyone, I came into this job knowing I wouldn't get along with certain employees but that doesn't mean anything when It comes to doing my job.

The most enjoyable part of my job is the players, I enjoy meeting people especially those from other countries!

Many past reviews for this company are in regards to the F&B department, which has been struggling for some time.  But this doesn't speak true for the rest of the casino.  Overall this is an amazing place to work. I've never felt more valued by my employer.  They never fail to recognize hard work, and my efforts have never gone unnoticed.  Century Casino offers a lot of different training opportunities for further advancement.  As well, this is the kind of workplace where everyone has a voice, and all ideas are heard.  The company is always looking for way to appreciate its employees, and I have a great working relationship with our management team.  Don't shy away because of the reviews in F&B, they're working hard to turn things around within that team as well.  My guess is, that some people just don't see the need for change.

I cannot say what it is like at other Century locations but Century Mile Racetrack and Casino is the worst job I have ever had. There is no communication between departments and even within departments, so nobody knows anything that is going on. There is no health and safety committee, HR is beyond useless and rude and if your pay is messed up they will give you the run around for weeks until you just get so tired you give up trying to get it fixed. Also with the COVID-19 shutdown of the casino they handled it beyond terrible. Instead of laying off the managers in departments that had no work (eg. Food and Beverage, Off-Track Betting) they continued to pay them salary even though they were doing no work and just sitting at home and laid off the employees that still had work because the racetrack was still open for training horses.

Games, Security and Surveillance seem to have it together...or maybe they don’t..... Food and Beverage, Kitchen and Marketing definitely struggle. Some policies and procedures were great, however some are completely bizarre.  

The volume of patrons is low, leaving it impossible for decent ring outs and you’ll never walk out with anything logical from your sales, at best 1-8% . No matter how good of a server you are. 

Potential to be a busy place, If marketing existed and people knew the place existed. Until then, the managers will continue to keep busy concentrating on things that don’t even pertain to the industry. Leaving a somber environment. 

Perhaps a overhaul on the marketing department would be a good start. 

Great work environment- if you’re into doing side duties 3x a shift to feel like you’ve done something productive.

Working at Century Calgary will lead you to having to self-medicate. 
The Management here is corrupt, they will do anything to further themselves with no regard for anyone else, they lie, they cheat and the rules simply do not apply to them. Human Resources is so back stabbing and they just love to trash people and talk behind their backs.You think they are nice, but oh no! They are laughing about your outfit/hairstyle and spreading rumors about everyone they see. There is no confidentiality here, period. 
Lackluster middle and upper management and under achievers are favored and the hard working front line employees (and some hard working supervisors and managers) are stepped on, and pushed too far. 
They constantly talk about culture, but the negativity there comes from the top. I literally hated every single day of working here. 

Don't let them fool you! Horrible place... horrible.
