There's a fair lack of communication on your tasks. But if you get on with the guys who have been there for 10+ years you will learn quite a bit and Where to fit in.
I learned alot of pipe fitting and blue print reading here. It's also a great experience to travel. You will be working hard 8-16 hrs a day if they are busy.
It's really hard to stick around with them as the turn over rate is like 3 months on average. I made it about 1.5 years. 
The boys are extremely knowledgeable and the top guys are the best of the best. However nepotism is a massive issue in this company, most people who work here are family friends and children of the managers.
Expect to be a number and know that your time could be up when ever... You get the same speech about picking straws and yours coming up. They went through 22 techs prior to my 1.5 years there.

I loved seeing western and northern Canada and building some of the most interesting refrigeration systems. 
Cimco is very pact orientated and you have to bust your back everyday, But you will learn more skills than most... If you can hack it.

The management team isn't very good at relaying expectations. They have a hard time with corrective action. They won't tell you if things are good or bad so there's no real way to improve or understand if something is wrong.
Sometimes you'll have group meetings where they are quite aggressive and not very productive. 

Basically you'll work like crazy, Meet some experts, and leave with some wild experiences.


I am a success driven individual. I was under the understanding that the support I required would have been available, however poor response time caused me frustration and unfortunately client disappointment. I have built a positive reputation in the HVAC/R trade and cannot allow it to be darkened by poor performance by my office and technicians. 
Daily- If I wasn't prospecting for sales, id be on jobsites organizing or supervising sold projects. 
I'd describe the culture as a cover yourself environment. 
Hardest-the roller-coaster of the sales business and working with support staff. 
Best- when a solid project was awarded to us. Solving clients problems.

CIMCO allows you to set your own schedule (with a few limitations) and have the resources to teach new engineers everything they need to know about the industry. The design experience is also very practical as the engineers are expected to interact with the millwrights and pipe fitters who build the systems to solve problems and improve on the systems. The company provides monthly barbeques (when it isn't winter) and the people are always available to provide whatever resources or support an engineer would need. The work tends to have a seasonal feel, during the construction months you may have to work overtime and during the winter things slow down.

Contract workers face early endings to their contracts even after completing their trial periods successfully. The work hours are flexable in most locations and working with management to get your preferred hours accommodated can work for both yourself and management . This company is very successful and pays well within what it should pay for the position and has decent benefits at 3 months. I do not regret working there even though I was only a short term contracted employee.

The project engineering department is a great place to learn, but only because no one teaches you anything and you have to figure it all out on your own. It can be very stressful at times, and you will not be compensated for overtime. The pay is below average for engineers, but the work is interesting. If you can survive the first few years you can be fairly autonomous and enjoy the work.

CIMCO is known as the most expensive HVAC company in Canada, with service costs higher than their competitors. However, despite their premium pricing, they don’t offer competitive salaries or vacation packages, starting with just two weeks. On the positive side, the team is skilled and knowledgeable, making for a good working environment.

If you’re comfortable with ammonia refrigeration, you will enjoy the work here.  Cimco offers great opportunities to learn from highly trained mechanics.  You will get exposure to some incredible refrigeration systems.

I have been working at Cimco Refrigeration full-time (More than 1 year).
Great benefits and pay for someone starting out (stock plan, pension competitive pay 3 weeks vacation), casual work environment, Christmas parties, free coffee.. you will learn a lot.
Great place to learn about the energy industry as well as product design.
You will work a lot of overtime and there is no training so that it's hard.

Best service manager, down to earth respectfull and understanding. Best mechanic you could ever find, i rate my experience as the best job i ever had. Coworkers are exceptional and skilled.
