Everyone here is only here for themselves.  No one in management backs up support staff.  No room for advancement due to ongoing issues amongst staff (union vs non-union); ie. enviousness, spite, resentment.  Poor environment for anyone who has a work ethic.  Most employees have been there too long and have been promoted even though there have not been posted positions.  Promotions given to less than qualified candidates causing more problems within organization.  Management is not aware of most of the problems that support staff endure, and are not interested in getting to the root of any problem.  High incidence of staff abusing sick time.  Get what you can out of a position here and then leave with your sanity still in tact.  The City of Pickering needs to clean house and put people in positions where work actually gets done.  They need to weed out the unproductive ones which will be very difficult given the union environment and the protection it provides to those that do not deserve it.  High incidence of nepotism.

I was very busy on a daily basis which I liked as it made the day go quicker. I liked being busy. I mostly learned accounting for a Transit division and property taxation. The management syle was more of a demoractic/dictatorship syle. My co-workers were the greatest. The hardest part of my job was having to deal with a certain individual whose attitude and management style was not good. I have no problem working for anyone as I respect employees position even if I do not respect them as a person. This they will never know. The most enjoyable part of my job at the City and anywhere i work is getting the job done. It gives me satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment.

Feel bad for people who live in pickering. Pay high taxes to get nothing from the city. Just driving around in a city truck wasting time / gas. Leadership is a joke. People are more worried about what they can be stealing from the yard store to take home then actually work. An absolute joke with nothing but politics. Generation of families doing nothing for the city for over 30 years. Did you know that they have $25000 ice machine for the city workers, that barely anyone uses. They love to waste tax money! Way to many people making over a $100,000+ at the city of pickering and having absolutely no clue what's going on day to day.  The loader for the yard sleeps in the back all day and makes over $100,000. 

This was one of the healthiest working environments in my career so far. The managers for the instructors are approachable and friendly to meet my needs. The only con for working for the city is the lack of hours for part-time instructors and the fact you have to rely on the people signing up for the classes which may cause you not to work. It's a good part-time job if your doing it for the short term!

Work Plan Outputs and expectations.

Micromanaging and controlling. High performance expectations that do not match wages.

A lot of meetings, a lot of interaction with other staff.

I run sports programs. I’ve created the majority of them.

Too many millennials bosses who couldn’t care less about customer service.

The culture has gone downhill from when I first started.

I show you. Do my job. I go home.

Good pay and always have the opportunity to move up in the city

Some times it is really busy and trying to make most ppl happy

Work was more than slow at times, while other days would be filled with over 1000 people.  Going from not much to do, to an influx of people like that is something to become accustomed to.  Maintenance of the entire village will always fall onto the tour guides whom will be asked to clean all houses and discard of wasps and garbage.  This will not be mentioned in training.

-No room for advancement
-Worst manager of a department (parks) i've ever worked for in my life
-The union is a joke the rep (for parks) is best friend with Management and will not stand up for you and fight if you're in trouble, it is likely he is the one that reported you to the manager 
-the hours are terrible 

The city of Pickering repeatedly offered extra opportunities, only to reneg on them later. They slated me to take over a department from a retiring individual, and then kept the "retiree" instead. Promised classes, then hired others to fill them, scheduled courses without notification then penalized me for not knowing about them, and repeatedly failed to pay me.
