A typical day at work for me is that I sit in front of a computer about 90 percent of my day. I have learned a lot at CNIB. I have learned a lot about the human eye and what some of our client's go through on a daily basis. The management is great. They are fair and they have an open door policy. I can talk to my supervisors and managers about anything. I have a lot of good co-works and some of them will be life-long friends. But with any place there will be conflicts with other co-workers. The hardest part of my job is reading and inputting data regarding a client that has lost their sight because of an accident or a baby that is born with no eyes. There is always going to be good and bad with any job. But I think the most enjoyable part of my job that I have now is some of the clients, especially the seniors. Some of them enjoy just to sit down and chat for a few minutes makes their day.

A typical day of work included guarding the water, guarding on the boats, waiting tables, cleaning table, running games, and much more all in one day.
I learned so much working at the CNIB lake joseph centre. there are too many things to list, it was hands down the most amazing experience i have ever been apart of. It has changed my life in so many ways, I met the most amazing people that I will never forget and will keep in touch with for the rest of my life. It was hard and challeging but it made you become a stronger person because of it.
The hardest part of the job was working long camp hours, you become very tired but still have to work all day doing multiple jobs.
The most enjoyble part of the job was getting to know so many amazing people.

Management has no clue what low visioned and blind community need they only care about the money. 

They charge you for parking downtown to the point of taking a tonne off your paycheck, they do not understand what it is like to be low visioned and are highly incentive when dealing with staff that are, little lone clients.  They are rude to staff and clients. 

They micromanage your position not even knowing what your position is about.  They hire outside the pool of employees for management instead of promoting from within and hire employees that don't qualify and don't understand their job for management.

I work as volunteer to assist Deaf and Blind people enrolled in the program to learn basic things such as like banking, budget living necessaries and rent if they want to live on their own in a apartment. 

working at the CNIB was wonderful experience to work with people. I created a projects for them to learn and taught them how to budget, and learn some idioms words.

I learn how to interact with people and learn different ways to teach. It was rewarding experience for me!

The hardest part was: get them to understand clearly but I have lot of patience with that.

I enjoy to teach them and see them to be happy and able to be independent on their own.

The staff are CNIB's biggest asset. I've never worked anywhere where people care so much about the work they do and helping others. Management are paid well. Staff who are not management, not so much. If you live in Ontario, there are tremendous advancement opportunities. CNIB says salary is commensurate with education and experience on its job postings, but there are huge pay gaps among people doing the same job because they don't make their salary ranges known. CNIB hires you for the least they can pay you. It's only after you've been there a while that you learn others with less experience are making much more than you. 

I enjoyed working with the clients and co-workers at the CNIB. It was a really easy-going relaxed working atmosphere and there is a culture of helping each other and openness. Being a non-profit there is not much room for advancement and pay increase, although it did pay more than my prior jobs. The work is very rewarding. The company policy and tedious tracking does get a bit much. Also a lot of services have been cut back which leaves some clients with a slightly more negative opinion of CNIB.

Working for the lottery gave me a lot of incite on the importance of promotional activities for businesses. Every few weeks there are promotional activities that have to be incorporated into the sales of the lottery. Great management system, and a decent workplace culture. The hardest part of the job is the constant moving around and standing on your feet for hours on end with a constant flow of consumers, The most enjoyable part of the job would be gaining sales experience and understanding consumers more, which intact relates to my current undergraduate studies in Marketing at the University of Ottawa.

You work 7 day's a week they don't appreciate anything you do for them

The work environment was toxic and Wal-Mart staff are the most ignorant people I've ever met

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You go in open your machines and get out all your product for sale and then you just sit there until a customer comes and if you want to sit down don't forget to buy a chair

Great environment, nice people to work with. I loved to have worked in CNIB

deadline a little bit, but I was able to bit it and finishing all on time.

It is multi-cultural environment and that makes it even more enjoyable

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day at CNIB was to prioritize deadline jobs with a minimum of stress.

By far the most ridiculous place I've ever worked.  

You can expect to be micromanaged, lectured for using the phone to talk to your spouse, deal with backstabbing coworkers - few of which are all that good at their job, etc.  Also - expect to pay for parking...only to have your parking pass revoked when they hold an event in the day and want to sell parking space to visitors.  

The orientation gives a good insight into what visually impaired people live with - and that's a lesson I've taken with me...but other than that?  Avoid this place.

The cafeteria was decent though.
