Nothing good about working here.  The people you work with are backstabbing and always grumpy.  The safety is non-existent as life threatening accidents and injuries are common.  The culture was the worst I have ever experienced.  Sad/mad/grumpy/depressed employees in camp and at the mine.  It’s just a miserable environment all around and HR and management don’t care how anyone feels regardless of experience.  They’re all just doing the bare minimum to try to keep their jobs. Favouritism is rampant with foreman and leads promoting and hiring their family members and friends. 

 Employed with the  company for 10 years 
 Also have been employed and survived  layoffs from previous “gigantic” oil company which was shocking at the time (made you believe it would never happen) 

CNRL without a doubt makes me feel secure with employment (smart with their money)
And also if you follow the simple “house” 
rules and don’t make career limiting decisions “common sense” you have nothing to worry about.

Career growth is dependant on “department”
 There is potential room for advancement  internal and external emails go out and are easy to apply too.



I started at Albian in Oct 2018. From the first day, it was clear that the maintenance department were not up to current standards or company standards and consistently hid behind their ignorance to follow standards creating a stressful environment that frowned on identifying the problems in there department.

Terrible management, very incompetent. There is 0 overtime, there is non stop workload and many side projects. No support from team lead, very unsafe working conditions and if you bring anything negative about safety, you will be sabotaged and get fired. They like boot lickers or doormats workers. No room for growth and good luck for getting a raise. Highest turnover rate ever, some people work for 1 set and never come back. 

Loved being able to work outdoors, but in the comfort of either a heated or air conditioned cab. Very long days, wake at 2:30 Am/ Pm work 12 hours then commute back to the city. Typical 16 hour day for 7x7 schedule, including shift work. Learned to effectively run equipment in all weather conditions, in a very safe production based environment.

The crew I'm working with are very easy to get along with and laid back. The safety culture is excellent and as long as you obey the rules no one bothers you. It's a very comfortable place to work with minimal stress. The only downfall I can see so far is the wages for co-op students are very poor compared to the same role with other companies. Other companies pay about $8-$10 more.

Company believes in the almighty dollar above all else, hence all decisions are based on that fact. Including enforcing vaccination, with the hope of reducing the cost of testing and sick time, then refusing to admit that what was hoped for wasn't achieved, in fact they had more sick time with the vaccinated getting covid at a much faster pace than before the mandates and staff weighing their own risk tolerance.


It's a fast pace work environment, with majority leadership having unreasonable expectations and new managers always end up being mirco-managers. With lowest paying salary compared to industry peers.

I throughly enjoyed my time at CNLR, the environmental team was full of hardworking and supportive people that really cared about their work. I would recommend this job to anyone that as the ability to work there.
