I worked for CORE for six years because I loved working with my individuals in Outreach. They were the reason I stayed. 
I worked in the Outreach department as a Community Rehabilitation Worker 1, but was expected to do the work of a Community Rehabilitation Worker 2 for the same wage. I brought all my paperwork home and had to have it complete on my own time. The other option was to leave early from my individual’s shift to complete the paperwork. Some individuals are only funded for two hour shifts and Outreach staff have to leave 15 minutes early already to make it to their next individual on time. In that two hour shift the individual would only get an hour and a half if I were to take time off to do paperwork. 
The frustrating part is that any other department at CORE would give their staff paid time to do paperwork. In the group homes CRWII would go into the office to complete ISP reports during work time. In Outreach we do not have offices, so CRWI bring that home. There is no work life balance in Outreach. 
Also, Outreach have no breaks. Our travel time is considered our break.
The system is stressed in the organization as the Team Leaders are given case loads that are too large to handle independently; therefore, more work is given to the front line workers.

I had been a caregiver for roughly a year and a half when I was swapped over to CORE. Working privately, it was wonderful until the change...
There was extreme disorganization with management and even while sitting in the room with them with my paperwork in front of them, they couldn't figure out what my name was.
I really wasn't a person to them, simply a means to an end. Regularly working Mon-Fri I was once called on a Sunday and told never to come back. I never got an answer from them as to why.

Individuals are great, work load isnt justified through wage. Lots of overtime. There are days where theres nothing to do vs busy days where there lots to do but short of staff. Training is great in the classes but during a real shift you have multiple people giving advice which ends up with you figuring it out.  Management doesnt follow up, consistently, even if it's very important.

Working at core there was always some sort of drama between management and staff/ between staff members. Everyone was treated unfairly by management, no one’s voice was heard. The way was never great, never got great. No matter how hard you worked or how long you stay you will always be paid no more than $16. Now they’re trying to hire new people for more than the staff that have been there for 9 years. 

There really is not typical day. Every day can be full of challenges, opportunities to learn and chances to be creative.
I have strong positive relationships with many coworkers and we focus on supporting each other while creating a productive and positive environment for those we serve.

This is the most toxic work environment I have ever worked in.  I loved working with the individuals, but the management are incompetent and too busy pointing fingers and looking to blame everyone else.  CRW I's have the hardest job of all and get little to no recognition.  The executive director has been there too long and forgets things all the time.

I learned allot from the management and hands on with the clients that are amazing. 
At times it can be overwhelming, I enjoyed most of my days while working there,  it's a slow pace environment.


Never enough staff, staff that they did have were extremely rude. Everybody is always calling in, meaning you will most likely have to work on all of your days off. The team leader was especially rude, would get mad if you asked for a day off (even if you earned it and let him know weeks in advance). Got paid 25 cents more an hour for having a DIPLOMA in this line of work

CORE underpays & under-values great staff. They do not take proper action against Team Leaders, coworkers, etc when there is blatant, obvious bullying going on. CRWI’s are allowed to disrespect their source of authoritys (CRWII & Team Leaders) & nothing is ever done about it, even when the staff being bullied supplies the proof that it is actually happening. Clients are awesome though!

It is most rewarding to work with clients who would not be able to manage on their own. We get them out into the community to learn to work, to take training, volunteer, spend time with friends, work at paid jobs. You need to be patient and learn continually.   We also work in their homes.
