CS Wind Canada

The only good thing about CS Wind Canada is  it being an excellent place to learn, gain experince and required hours to apply for CGSB certification. Other than that it is poorly managed and quality is often overlooked. Pay is poor considering the amount of work one is doing compared to other places in Ontario. No appreciation for employees either. No job security (had almost 4 weeks of shutdown/layoffs due to lack of work, and 6 weeks of shutdown in scheduled in near future). Once heard a manager saying "if we want raise we can quit as they can easily hire and train someone else".

Have seen almost 15 people quit in QC department in last 12 months, reasons being : 
1. low pay for NDT
2. no raise in  5 years. (they gave $1 raise after union came in , which equalled out the union dues)
3. no appreciation
4. production being more important that quality, and hence quality is often overlooked.
5. no job security

I was responsible for the Transportation Department. We were responsible for moving tower sections from one process to the next using 100 ton reach stackers in tandem. We moved completed tower sections from the production plant to the storage area. We were responsible for loading finished sections from storage onto specialized transportation equipment, including rail, for shipment to final destination installation wind tower locations throughout Canada and the United States. Safety and Teamwork were paramount in this operation.

The work environment has experienced massive improvements during the 5 years that I worked there.  Unfortunately, the last layoff was only supposed to last 3 months but we're now going passed 7.  This isn't the first layoff either.  If it does open back up I would be reluctant to work there, because I would never feel like there was any type of job security - even with the high seniority that I have.

Have developed very good HR skills as I have 200+ employees reporting to me in my department as well as 9 Supervisors in the Production Dept. Reporting directly to myself.  I have learned a lot about time management, effective supervision and how to improve employee moral.  I enjoy my job at CS Wind VERY MUCH.  This has been and continues to be the best experience of my career thus far.

learn how to train people how to weld grind fix damage windmills, examine my welds. Crane trained, forklift trained W.I.M.S trained  team player flex core ticketed. Cutting and torching, worked with international inter racial company. The hardest part of C.S wind was language burier and management. The enjoyable part of the job was welding and repairing Windmills .

This company flies by the seat of it's pants and thinks of safety as a second thought or nuisance.  Government legislation and potential inspection or fines are the only reason there is any level of adherence to safety protocol or training.

The opportunity for full time employment off of contract came to me through this employer. I appreciated all the opportunity to establish working relationships/networking opportunities and new skills that I obtained through this employer. The unfortunate part of being part of a large lay off has left me unemployed again.

Was a fun company to work for at the beginning, but as the years went on they became a pain. Always changing shift times, at times unsafe working conditions, constant threats from supervisors. Their future doesn't look good contracts are getting few and far between.

Working hours is fine, sometime the overtime is required.
The co-workers are friendly and helpful.
The managerment is good, working hours is flexible.
The company is downsize due to the market demand which lead to unstable jobs' secure.

Newer management helped a lot with the culture. A younger but mostly mature workforce who enjoy their job and take pride in the work they do. Union shop but really good communication with management.
