I originally took this job in hopes to work my way up to full time and or get a second job so that I could afford life. Once working at culture for approximately 2 and a half months I was told there was an opportunity to get full time at another location which I was ecstatic about. I went and had an interview and was told that I would be working full time day shifts permanently because the manager was a full time student(I would be getting his full time hours). For the first 2 months at my new location I went back and forth between locations because they were having troubles finding someone to replace me with. After they finally found someone and I started working fully at my new location I noticed I didn’t have a full 30-40 hours a week. When I asked about it I was told that full time was actually 25-40 hours because that’s how much you would have to work to get EI. Although I couldn’t find anything anywhere about full time only being 25 hours a week this made me suspicious but I figured oh well it’s more hours than I had before. After working there for another half a month I was looking at my schedule and saw that I only had 10-20 hours a week coming up. I asked about it and was told I was losing hours because another employee was coming back from vacation which didn’t make sense. I was offered full time because I would be taking my managers hours. I asked if there was anyway I could got back and fourth between locations to get the hours I needed and apparently my manager asked and that was not a possibility. I told him that I would need to look for a second job and he said he would be happy to be my reference. I have now been working for culture for approx. 8 months and have my final shift soon because I have found a better more reliable job. Overall this job was good and fun perfect for someone looking for a minimum wage part time job in school. You meet a lot of great people and upper management seems very nice and supportive but there is little to no communication with them. I am very rarely ever late to my shift I am clean and responsible I came into work when I had relatives pass away I have gotten messages from my manager saying how much he appreciates the work I do and I have almost never been talked to about anything I have done wrong , I have never been written up. There are no breaks at culture no sitting and you always work alone. You’re basically a key holder but only get minimum wage. I have wanted to leave for quite some time now and the only reason I didn’t was because I wanted to help I didn’t want to leave my manager in the dust because 3 other people had quit in the weeks before me.  My manager even talked to me about training me to be manager. Yet I look through my termination papers and see that on the question  “in the managers opinion is the employed able to be rehired at a later date” I see the answer “no, employee has proven to be unreliable” .... have I somehow been unreliable even though I have given an arm and a leg for this company and have been screwed over with my hours for months. It sure doesn’t seem like I’m the unreliable one here. Do not trust this company. They will manipulate you. I have went to absolutely adoring this company and feeling like family to never wanting to have anything to do with it again.

For myself, this is year 3 of working for Culture Craze Retail Corp, however I don't like to see it that way; as if the opportunities I have been given by this company were a product of corporation and monetary gain. My time with Culture Craze has not felt so much like work, but more so a stepping stone toward a future for myself, an education gained that I could not have found anywhere else. I feel so lucky to have been chosen for management. Everyday when I come to work, I am greeted with this amazing aura of positive energy and smiling faces. My team is a group of the most amazing people I have ever met, and I am so thankful and lucky to be a part of it all. At the end of the day, the work itself is fine. I enjoy making special pieces of jewelry for unique people. My customers are often very interesting to get to know, and I love the fact that I learn something new every day. This industry finds new ways to excite me everyday, however the thing that makes my job so great is the fact that I get to work with the people I do. The people who run this company care about me, specifically me, the same way they care about you, the same way they care about all of us. They want us to know that our health and well being are extremely important to them, and that we are no less family to them than their own. I have never, a single day working here, felt as if I was not being accepted, unwelcome, judged, or criticized. We are encouraged to grow and become better for ourselves, because the better we are alone, the better we are together. If I were to review this company and job in one, short sentence, I would say that they care. They treat you like family, always.

A typical day includes counting stock, and selling body jewelry to customers. It's nice that it's casual and you can be yourself here. All of my fellow employees, as well as management are great and fun people to work with. The atmosphere is definitely less serious than other jobs I've had. You make commission on each sale (sort of). You get in store credit, but I would prefer if it was actual commission money instead.

Unfortunately the pay is borderline minimum wage, and the hours are pretty low. Also, being a kiosk in the mall, when you're the only person working it is extremely hard to leave to get a bathroom break or take a break for lunch, because leaving all the small merchandise unguarded is sure to result in theft. I would prefer if there were always 2 people on at a time for this reason. But planning ahead with bathroom breaks and bringing a bagged lunch helps. Still not being able to take a proper break on the days you work alone isn't fun. You may also endure a fair bit of criticism from mall patrons who do not understand body jewelry and piercings.

I loved my job at culture craze because I was finally able to dress the way I really wanted, and enjoy looking the way that made me most comfortable. The problem was not many of the employee's or the manager were reliable. The manager was constantly needing shifts/days covered suddenly for one reason or another, employees were constantly late, or not showing up. We went through a lot of part time people in the year I was there. 
After a year of working there I got one raise of $0.15 barely working above minimum wage.
The employee's there including the manager ended up creating some drama that I didn't care for. I wasn't paid for breaks, that I couldn't take because I worked a lot most of the time and couldn't leave the kiosk. I wasn't allowed sitting either even though I would work an 8 hour shift and no customers at my little kiosk. 
I really enjoyed my job there though because I loved getting into the body modification world. Having colored hair, and piercings was the norm, so I didn't feel uncomfortable with being who I am.

The company is wonderful and friendly. Everyone is quite connected and communication is direct which I really appreciate. We are the face for alternative style in much of Western Canada and have done a lot to break the stigma of being unique. 
I have a great relationship with the direct manager and team and feel that concerns are acknowledged and important. The attention to mental health concerns is a big reason as to why I am so loyal to this company. 
Often we work individually, one person on per shift. This is both a blessing and a curse. Most of the time sales are manageable with one person, the tough part is any sort of "rush" as it can be very stressful when 6 customers show up waiting for you to help.

I'm usually expected to work alone due to the store being a kiosk in the mall. My manager/trainer is very personable and easy to get along with yet still maintains a respectful and professional work place environment. Getting over the awkward first encounter with a customer as a sales associate is probably the hardest part for me, not everyone is great with talking to strangers but it is a skill learned over time! It is also the most enjoyable part of the job though. You get to meet new people everyday and help them pick the best fit, style and quality of jewelry which is a very important part of having body modifications. So far I love ever aspect of my job!

I was hired as assistant manager with no previous managerial experience. I had no idea what to expect but holy mosis I did not expect to feel such warm and fuzzies. I dont feel like this is a job because I love what I do. I work with amazing people, i help amazing customers and i work for a REAL PERSON with REAL values whom I can actually directly interact with without feeling like she is your superior.

Working for Culture was the best change I could have made. I feel that I am cared for and I am valued. I started about seven month ago at our Polo Park location and the team welcome me in. I worked really hard and the manger took notice. Once she stepped down I was trained and promoted to manager. When I joined the team I has awful burn out from my previous youth care job. Not only the Polo Park team but our other stores and even our owner really helped me grow and learn. If you have a passion for body jewelry you will love Culture and Culture Craze. This company changed my life for the better.

Overall working at Culture Craze was a fun time, with awesome customers and even better coworkers. The biggest downfalls of the company are that often, you cannot work there without supplementing your income (that includes location managers). The company also has a rather flat hierarchical structure, so there isn't much room for climbing up a ladder- and you don't get paid any more as a manager than you do as a regular cashier/sales worker at many locations. So if you need a job that allows for flexible hours while you're a student, or are just looking for a little bit of extra cash while you're working a different full-time job, this is a great place to work!

I know how cheezy it seems to say, but Culture Craze really does feel like a family. Between the relationships that are possible with a smaller staff, and how involved the owner is in day-to-day operations, I always feel like I have so much support. Employees have the ability to communicate with every employee at the company, including the owner herself. 
The hours are flexible, and you really get to take the initiative by working by yourself. It is also a great way to work on your display skills, since we are always changing things up and getting new stock. 10/10 would recommend.
