Typical day at work:
-Followed assigned duties by my manager and supervisor for the day
- Pumped propane at the Filing Centre and gasoline pumps for 8 Self -     Serve and 8 Full-Serve
- Cleaned and washed with squeegees, the exterior of the vehicles windows

What I Learned:
- Teamwork with professional employees
- Head office helped to teach me proper communication skills

Management:
- Being properly on time and doing daily chores
- Certified managers to help me succeed along my career path

Workplace Culture:
- Friendly staff and Neighborhood oriented collaborative customers
- Excellence and Care towards the environment and Green house gas emissions

The Easier Parts of the Job:
- Interacting with new customers from all areas and districts of the city
- Meeting other employees from across Alberta at Calgary Co-op

Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
- Having a healthy work and home balanced relationship with other people

Pay is not high enough for the amount of work, the responsibility, or the general annoyances, yelling and anger we have to take from customers who are too lazy to pump their own gas, while we’re just trying to do our job. Minimum wage out in the cold and we have to turn in any tips we get to management so we can line their pockets? 

No PTO, no sick leave, we are expected to work ourselves into the ground for nothing. There are better jobs out there than this for anyone, especially HS students looking for a good first job. Despite all the positivity and “community” this company tries to push on you, they do not care about you. Your boss makes a dollar, you make a dime. If they want people to stick around so badly,  they need to do so much better. 

A lot of my time at the Co-op gas bar was spent in various ways. Between working cash in store and working as a pump attendant. Co-op has an incredible education system were I learnt much about vehicles and maintenance as well as health and safety procedures. The people I worked with there I hold dear to me. Each one of them teaching me in many ways so many different values and various knowledge. The hardest part for me was the end shift slump. Where a lack of customers and a lack of tasks made time almost seem still. The best thing about the job for me was great interaction with a wide variety of customers and coworkers.

A typical day of work can vary. The weather can be freezing cold, or burning hot. As this is a customer service ,job you will learn to deal with many types of people. Some great, some not so. You learn how to wash windows, pump gas, add wiper fluid, check, and add to oil. With experience you might even learn how to pump propane. The hardest part of the job is it can get very busy. The most enjoyable part is the talking to customers, and giving them a reason to come back. Management is easy going, and this is overall, a very good place to work.

-The job wasn't too hard, easy going. The people you work with are normally very laid back people which makes the work environment great, especially for those with anxiety. The job really taught you things about cars if you really didn't know much prior. Most Co-op Gas Bar locations have propane tanks which employees learn to operate, this can be difficult but once you are comfortable doing it alone, it isn't so bad; its a very awarding experience learning how to properly fill certified propane tanks, know how to tell if they are expired, etc.

Overall, A great learning experience with an easy going crew.

Personally didn't like the job as it was too boring and slow paced for me, also working outside in the cold was not for me. The coworkers are dope though, the manager i had was 3/5 stars i’d say. Its very easy to get time off although its unpaid time off, you do earn vacation hours though, after a year of part time work i earned 21.5 hours of vacation pay. You sell tobacco product and lotto, which you can sell as a minor. 

-Casual availability can be as low as one day on weekends 
-Sometimes i felt too much of politics is going on. 
-Being at bottom of seniority sucks. 
-its easy to take transfer to other location if you feel location/ department does not suit you. 
-too much of multi tasking in Gas Bars and sometime its overwhelming

Great job, lots of great people to work with, sometimes a handfull with co-workers. Job offered lots of opportunities. I personally learned a lot with the job as in ordering, repairing, propane techniques and more.

I applied twice for a supervisor postion after being there for almost two years, and they rejected me because i didnt have enough training. Then the manager hired his family member with no job.

Out of all the co-ops and grocery stores I have been too, this one is definitely the best to work and shop as it was a very lay back and relaxing environment for customers and workers
