Calgary Flames

When signed up too be ushers we where told that we had too do every Flames game, they were mandatory,and that other events were optional. You would simply sign up for the events you wanted to work. But since our hiring, how it works seems too have changed. You now have to formally book the night off for events you can't work. My wife and I both have season tickets for the Calgary Hitmen and at times have been told we had too work certain games, which at the time of hiring, we were gold even Hitmen games were among the optional events you could work, or not. As for concerts, and other events, we have been told that unless you put in a formal request to book the night off, you may be put on the schedule anyways. We both work full time, and we only sign up for ones that fit into our schedules (which IS most of them, just not all...) and when we are put in a spot where we fill heat if we don't show up. If they are going too have a policy in place they should have too abide by the rules as they set out and not change things afterwards.

All that aside we have truly enjoyed working for the organization, it's been a lot of fun, we just wish there were consistent scheduling policies in place.

Inconsistent training for new staff, head ushers who know little to nothing about the job when asked questions about the job. Supervisors will be out back smoking and will tell you over radio that what's ever needed can be looked after when they return. Supervisors have no people skills when dealing with staff. Threats are told to you if you don't do something right. You will lose your section if don't pass a a 100 question quiz that you have to take which was never told in any training and they give you help with the quiz or what's going to be on it. Very very useless organization to work for. Pay is very minimal for what your told to do and work for. Ushers are personal care assistants janitorial staff clean up crew and everything else that don't pertains to ushering. I do not recommend this place for employment unless you like to feel belittled by supervisors then in that case have fun!

Working at a Stadium during an event is exhilarating, loud, entertaining and with very enthusiastic fans its hard not getting caught up in it all. From Concerts to sporting events, even during Stampede environment is intoxicating, especially if you enjoy them personally.
I personally found that this organization was very much like high school, with Cliques, gossip, and lack of productivity. This doesn't pertain to the entirety of the flames workplaces, however, very much the Saddledome and McMahon Stadiums. Every once and while though you'll find lasting friendships and influential people that help with gaining perspective. The people that work there are from all ethnics, cultures, religions, genders, really from all walks of life.
Hardest part is putting up with the gossip and constantly working afternoon to evening shifts, social life outside the Flames can be quite difficult.

I really enjoy this workplace because it gives me the opportunity to interact with a variety of people with something new happening every day.  This company also offers a flexible work schedule which can work to an individuals advantage if they have another job or going to school, etc.  Throughout working here I have learned more about and been kept up to date with various sports teams and events, which has heightened my interest in these activities.  The hardest part of my job would be dealing with intoxicated and hard to handle customers, however my coworkers and workplace environment makes each day all worth while.

First off they take a total of 8% of the tips that are earned by cashiers and leads so the new tip system sucks. I'm use to making at least 100.00 per shift in tips and now I'm lucky to make 50. Don't need 5 managers telling me what to do. Upper management could not care less about the employees who work in these areas. They only care how much money we bring in for them!!! They've started nickle and diming the fans. I enjoy working with everyone I work with as it gives me something to do with my time. Unlike some NHL teams who now have unions this team expects 110% without any accolades. 

The Calgary Flames provided an opportunity to work in a multi-faceted, competitive work environment complete with new challenges introduced on a regular basis.  The staff is small vis-à-vis the workload but the annual competition on the ice keeps the job fresh.  The resources provided to the organization are considerable and provide the framework for competition.  The people who work there are committed and loyal and made going to work each day a joy.

Gained excellent people skills, but was a bad experience because the supervisors do not give opportunity to try new positions. They stuck me at the door and never moved me.
BEWARE if you think you'll like this job because you get to be involved in hockey games or concerts, well this is not the case. You will be stuck at the doors all night, or in the smoking section, or literally in the elevator. Only the ushers that have been there for 3 plus years get to see the concerts or games.

I have worked with this company and until they get rid of some of the SENIOR staff that do not know when to retire things will not improve at the Flames... they are stuck in the 1980's back to when they won the cup... they love paper and refuse to move forward into the new ways... the Managers in my department are bullies and will not let you move higher in any positions. you are stuck in the job you were hired at and cannot move to anywhere....you have to suck it up or quit...

A typical workday at with the Calgary Flames is fun and exciting. You start by walking in and getting a bite to eat at the staff cafeteria, you then go see our scheduler who tells you where you'll be for the shift, and depending on if your a lead or a cashier you will head up to your stand and begin work. 

I will always recommend working with this team of people, theres always so much love and laughs.

Can honestly say this was the best part-time job I ever had in hospitality.
Everybody was so easy to get along with there. 
The atmosphere was fun and exciting.
Supervisors & Managers were fair and rational.
Staff was treated well by supervisors and treated each other well.
Morale was high.
Money was good.
Flame owners were kind & respectful to us all.
It was an absolute pleasure working there.
