Calgary Food Bank

The management who sit in the office are getting paid big bucks from donation money and actually get a pay cheque but the front line workers are all volunteers with out pay.  It is very unfair.  The management just sat in the office and approve hamper requests.  The volunteers are the one that put out 100% labor and management just push on more work for them to do.  It is a unfair system for sure.  

The next time you donate money into the food bank, please think before you donate, as the money is going towards the management's salary first before feeding the people.  The management just arrange each grocery to donate their expired or near expired food to the food bank and the volunteer have to sort them out and divided them into hampers for the people.  Please donate actual food item, it is better! The management is very selfish and greedy.  

The entire food booking system is unfair to the people as I can see that the people on the street have no smart phone or computer to use to book a hamper.  They will turn people away at the door if you have no hamper appointment.  This is a place for high class food money saving people with smartphone, cars, house etc.  

I was a paid employee, not a volunteer. The staff and volunteers are awesome but management is another story . Right from the top is a culture of dysfunction. Management is terrible and toxic . A culture of departments not encouraged to work together to managers trying to out intellectualize each other with a CEO who can’t give a straight answer on anything . This organization does great work it just need a reorganization!

The day to day is good honest work and feels great. However management is unstable and full of egos. Management has been a revolving door with no communications, they are on their 3rd CEO in 2 years with a rotating cast of directors. Attempts to bring up issues result in punishments. A former employee was let go for applying for a promotion.

i really enjoyed volunteering at the food bank, i gained experience and knowledge with my friends while committing there. The hardest part of the job probably is adapting to the new environment there because i wasn't use to working in a food place before

Volunteered alongside other Calgarian citizens, to make and process food hampers. Can come in anytime to volunteer your time, and is well worth it if you're looking for something productive to do and if increasing the quality of someone else's life intrigues you.

When I was here it benefitted me greatly, I learned how to organize. I learned that you can help someone out without them even realizing it. It was great to see that people who were in need knew that their food wouldn't be rotten or expired when they got it.

Poor professionalism from Management who has no previous experience. Definitely need to be a self starter, no clear direction is given. The job itself is easy but the multiple firing of managers and workers makes job duties hard to follow or even achieve. 

I worked as volunteer at Calgary Food Bank.  The staff are nice and professional.  People in CFB are very wiling to help and serve the Calgarians to fight hunger.  It is a noble mission.

the working environment is  favorable and the job is easy to perform. easy to follow instructions required to do the job task. I have been working with the Calgary food bank for quite long time and i become more countable with my job and other duties with the warehouse  

I have been working as a call centre volunteer here for the past month and supervisors were very friendly and supportive. They provided online training in advance and let you practise before starting. I feel safe working here.
