This is a great job for anyone who loves sports and enjoys being active. You work with so many other referees and meet a lot of friendly faces throughout your time. It is simple to join, by attending a clinic and writing a simple test. The jobs are entirely booked according to your schedule and you can work as much or little as you want. It is easy to excel and achieve pay raises by spending more time on the job and attending the necessary theory nights. Such a great place and job for any age starting at 13.

An excellent option for those looking for either a first-time job or a way to make some extra cash on the side. The games you work are up to you completely, so you decide how much time you want to dedicate and how much money you want to make. My only complaint would be that you only get paid for the set duration of the game itself which doesn't take into account any set up/clean up, overtime or the time it takes to travel to locations all around the city. There are also lots of opportunities to move up into higher-level games and make more money for those who wish to do so.

Every Saturday I would go to referee minor basketball games and it was super fun to be around the young children and being able to be apart of their game and helping them learn and get better. I learned more of the rules of basketball and learned how to deal with unhappy parents in the crowd. The environment was always super fun and exciting in a loud, cheering gym! The hardest part was having to deal with unhappy coaches or parents and having to be fair with both of them. The best part of the job was being able to be around the kids and teaching them more skills

The boss could care less about you as a person. He didn’t answer any texts you sent unless it was during your working hours, gave weeks notice that I wouldn’t be able to make the shift that weekend and was hit with a “You know how hard it is to find a replacement in 2 weeks??!??” Like he doesn’t have a plethora of refs to choose from, and overall I was just a number to him, not a person. Not to mention all the disrespect you get from parents (at U11 games, sorry guys your kids aren’t NBA bound at 10, relax)

A typical day includes getting to know your partner then getting right into the game. Through this job I have learned better communication skills and working with a larger group of people. The most enjoyable part of the job was being part of the game, especially the game I love.

Management is great, with a well-designed system which assigns games with enough time for referee to be able to plan that day out. Very flexible hours, just need to inform assignor in advance.

Only worked Saturdays for about 3-4 hours. It was easy to sign up for times to ref, but sometimes the locations were a bit out of my way. Overall was a good experience.

The CMBA cheats they way into paying you lower than minimum wage by claiming that you are a contract worker. You will be schedule for an hour and a half long game, have to arrive 20 minutes early, then only be paid 15 dollars.

You can work as much or as little as you want but it is sometimes hard to get consistent hours. Scheduling is also usually last minute. Hard to advance/ get raises, I wasn't sure when or how I could advance.

Great job, fun, good people, pays well for lont term employees. Choose your own hours basically. The management is caring and easy to work with. Coworkers are usually good people with a passion the sport
