Very easy going job, hardest thing is running between fields to get game sheets. Can sometimes get boring when CMSA isn't the main facilitator of a tournament (such as provincials where it is ASA) however if you get along with your co-workers it is nice as you just chat when there is nothing to do. 
I have really appreciated the full-time staff's no nonsense attitudes when dealing with tough situations like upset parents. Part time staff are not required to handle conflict resolution (besides team leads) which is nice as there are many youth staff members, and having the same people deal with any issues insures consistency. Management team and office staff are all friendly and respectful, to the point where I look forward to working more with them in the future.

I have ben working for CMSA for almost five years now, and I have loved every step of the way. I now have the opportunity to work my way up into the ranks, and maybe someday become a FIFA referee, which would be absolutely incredible. Or I could just have it as a part time job and have another one on the side. It's more about the experience of teaching other. younger people the game of futbol, rather than earning a huge salary at first.

Work is only available later in the days or on weekends as refereeing soccer can not be a full time job. Pay was based on what type of game was being refereed (Division one tournaments paid $25 a game, while refereeing U8's paid $15 a game). The workplace was interesting as you never had to work with anyone and nobody had to supervise you as you did your job. Best and worst part of the job was working outside in the Calgary summer.

As a referee you worked alone on scattered days at scattered times and recieved randomly scheduled games but as you did not get to pick the days you wanted to work you may have gotten double booked. You may also need to work 5 days in one week and none for the next 3 weeks which caused issues with consistency

The rules are unfair at all and some referees are not proffessional and rude. I would never ever let anyone I know want to work there. A team had a goalie refused to return to his former club because he had played 6 games with another team in a different competition

A typical day as being a referee was working with angry parents and trying to talk to them and make them cool. I learnt how to deal with people who are not happy with my opinions. Hardest part of my job was coolong down angry parents.

I am a match official for age groups under 18 mostly, the hardest part of the job would be dealing with parents of children who belong to certain teams while the most enjoyable part of the job is easy to work with hours and the salary.

Lots of good people work for the CMSA and they are all very kind and helpful. Definitely a great first job if you understand soccer and are willing to referee matches

Very good salary with extremely flexible hours. Recommended for a part-time job! It was enjoyable work teaching the young soccer players how to play with correct rules.

Being a referee is a challenging job for those who have a real passion for soccer and the rules of the game. If you like making sure the rules of the game are enforced, this is a job for you.
