Calgary Sun

Well, Its kinda hard for me to explain this, but while working with the Calgary Sun, it was about the average experience for me.

While working, I learned more about how to communicate with people.  Though when talking to people you got both sides of their world as well; which can be interesting.

The management was pretty good,  how our manager taught was more of an experience thing, so on the first day, we got to have a bit of his experience on the first day.  

The workplace is outside knocking on doors, so be prepared for the weather.  It's a job where you can come whenever you want, though they like a heads up on when you can come.  And your Money comes in cheques, so you need to get your cheque in person.

Even though your walking door to door, you're bound to bump into a few nasty people who will make your day just that much worse, and your cheque is determined on the number of people you can convince into buying a newspaper subscription; so if you don't make any sales, you don't make money.

Walking around isn't so bad, so there's an upside.  And the other is talking with some really interesting people.  Even though I can't really think of that much, there are some really good benefits to this job as well.  Plus a great potential to be great for development.  If you want to get better with interacting with people, this is a good choice and the more people you can convince, the bigger your pay over time.

This was a great place to work, I really liked to learn about how a newspaper was put together. The hardest part was when a customer would call in after the deadline wanting to get an add in for the next day, depending on how late after the deadline you could still squeeze it in but most of the time you could not and customers would get upset. Management was good always made the workplace easier with there upbeat attitude.

Co-workers are great, really enjoy working with everyone if I could I would bring everyone with me to my next employment. 

Down side is we haven't had a raise in nearly 6 years because of wage freezes. But we continue to take on more and more tasks with no compensation in sight.  

Management is great with asking for time off, are willing to work around anything you may have going on in your life.

Great coworkers and great supervisors. Typically I came in, got my call list ready, got what I needed from the office and started calling. I learned that providing good customer service makes for a fabulous day. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting verbal cudos for my good work and getting to know the customers.

Great hours and during my 25 years at The Calgary Sun, I had several jobs.  My last job description was Supervisor for 11 years. My co-workers in the billing department as well as the other departments were very good to work with.

Delivered flyers once a week for them, the load is dropped off at the front of your house and you have to sort them to deliver them. The routes depending on what you get is a hit or miss, the neighborhoods with very close homes is a score, whereas the older neighborhoods with large lots are painful. 

It has been my pleasure working with the exceptional crew I had with over 13 years at the Calgary Sun. I have learned so much from this establishment which I hope to use in my future.

we use to drop newpapers at drop sites and then come back at night to make sure all drivers showed up to get the papers for their routes, and complete the drivers who did not show

Enjoyed working here, very flexible and accommodating company. Understanding when it came to family emergencies. Family friendly.  A lot of giveaways including event tickets 

Over the 25 plus years with the Calgary Sun I did so many different things, that there is not enough room here to write about then all.
