A typical day is spent reacting to poor planning, shifting expectations, and management decisions made without input from experienced staff. The workload itself is manageable, but the instability, constant changes, and lack of direction make every day more stressful than it needs to be.

I learned solid technical skills and independence, but also how quickly a strong workplace can be dismantled when leadership prioritizes cost-cutting over people, experience, and long-term viability.

Newer upper management has systematically removed or driven out experienced staff while lowering compensation and expectations. Leadership appears inexperienced, dismissive of frontline expertise, and focused on short-term financial gain rather than sustainable growth or company values.

The culture shifted from family-friendly, trust-based, and growth-oriented to transactional and toxic. HR is ineffective and contributes to gossip rather than resolution. Experience is undervalued, growth is limited, and turnover is high for a reason.

The hardest part is not the work, it’s the lack of respect. Family time is not prioritized, long-term employees are treated as expendable, and there is little appreciation for commitment or skill.

The best part was working with skilled coworkers who genuinely cared about their work. Unfortunately, many of those people have already left, or are actively looking elsewhere.

In short this job appears to have the potential to be something that a person would want to stick with. However the reality is that this company pays at minimum 30% below industry standard. Many times people are forced to stay home because we can’t afford fuel to get to work. No amount of explanation motivates management to bump up salaries and they go through middle
Management like most people go through toilet paper. In the end this place will always be a revolving door of employees. This is a place for very young welders to start or old, retired guys who are just bored and don’t need the money. If you do not live with your parents or have parents that have bank rolled you through adulthood you will definitely not make enough money to have any kind of life. If you’re a father of kids in school you are screwed. I was the highest paid floor worker there for my time and I went further into debt while working there than I ever have before. On top of that the work can be highly intensive and physically brutal. So at least you’ll have the luxury of knowing that you worked your rear off and got zip to show for it. Don’t work here. It’s a huge mistake. I put in three years and it was awful. 

The actual work you do at this job builds skills and can be enjoyable. You learn a lot from good fellow employees you work with everyday. The problems come from management caring more about profits than its employees. When problems arise in the shop HR will make quick decisions based on half the information. They might not give you a chance to explain yourself. They see you as a number, easily replaceable which feels great! This may have been a great shop in the past, but care about your employees, we do all the work while you click buttons

I'm a welder with CWB tickets, Caltrax doesn't care about those however as you will be welding about 10% of the time. 

There is zero ventilation, shop floor is covered in water when it rains, right by welders because they are too cheap to fix the roof. 

Management are the weirdest dudes I have ever come across, socially awkward. 

Pay is way under industry standards, HR doesn't know anything. 

The only saving grace are the people on the floor you work with, however it's still not worth it. 

Go anywhere else. 

I was working here for a little under 3 months when I had been late multiple times and they had let me go which was fair, now the unfair part was they rehired me and had given me a document about being late that I had signed and agreed too. Now I wasn’t late a single time after being rehired except for one time which was on a Saturday ( which I volunteered to work ) but was also late by 30 mins due to a flat tire that was not safe to drive on. This is not a good place to work.

Unfortunitily, they treat you like a number and production is the only goal, regardless of the health and safety of workers. Wages for the work, based on industry are low and they continually dangle a carrot in front of you. Additionally, if you aren't one of the chosen ones by management, you are not realized for your successes. The management is the worst I have ever worked for.

Incredibly toxic work environment. Management is not supportive, string you along with promise of raises that never come and do nothing to stop harassment and bullying in the workplace until it's too late. The work itself is wicked but the culture is ridiculous. If you value your sanity do not work here.

Do not work here. Co-workers are good, but the management and the safety culture are terrible. The place is not ventilated properly and the upper staff only treats you like a number.
If you are a welder, stay away from this place, because you will not gain the proper experience and the pay will be subpar.

i was worked in the night shift its compatible to me because for me the time is very fast.i learned how to operate the blasting machine.the management its so nice to me.and the  place there is nice and clean.the hardest part for me is to blast inside the tank.the most enjoyable part of the job we worked together with my co worker because they nice to me.

Some say the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I found out for myself the amazing culture, benefits and most of all people i left behind. After 2 1/2 years away, i returned to Caltrax.
Company is now in a major growth strategy that i am very excited to be a part of.
