Camp Shalom

While this summer was challenging, it really help me to gain management skills and build on other skills like communication, organization, responsibility, and leadership. There is no 'typical day' at this job because camp is constantly in motion, and so was I, so flexibility was key. For me, the hardest part and the most enjoyable part were the same thing, you are always on call. As someone who went through the CYJ system all my life I had no idea what it ally meant to be a unit head but it was one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs I've ever had.

Long hours but it was manageable. Strict rules but it's easy to learn quickly about Kosher kitchen management. Not the greatest pay for the labour the job requires. Located in Muskoka, far from home but very beautiful. Tense workplace when there was a large demand. Made a lot of great friends and memories.

as a kitchen staff, we usually wake up before everyone else, the management is verywell, schedule is planned out through out the year. the workplace culture is diverse.
the hardest part of the job is re-stocking, it gets in the way of preparing food for campers.

It's great to work with friends and you get to relax with campers and teach them new things. The management takes a while and they aren't very straight forward with you. I think the management just changed.

Camp is a wonderful experience and I enjoy returning every summer. Seeing the children and staff grow and flourish in such a rich and nurturing environment is incredible!

Gave a safe and healthy environment for campers. Co-workers were helpful and supportive. I learned many new skills including basic plumbing and building.

It is a lot of fun working at camp shalom, but it is a constant grind. You are on the clock 247 and while compensation includes food and board, payment is not very high .

The kids had a great time and that is what is important. The staff were friendly and respectful and they mad sure that the kids were having the greatest summer of their lives.

it was a fun time working with camp shalom in the outdoors and serving all the children. I had a great team I worked with in the kitchen.
