Camp Warwa

I learned a lot and my experiences were really amazing. I Have made life long friends and learned skills I would've never had the chance to otherwise. It is a safe space for LGBTQ and they really make an effort to normalize good communication. I have only positive things to say about the Program Cordinators. They each were kind, supportive and worked very hard to improve camp. However, within the organization conflicts were resolved poorly. There was no communication prior to diciplinary action, and I was often blamed for actions I did not do. 
Despite being an organisation that greatly dislikes Hirarchy, there was always clear favourtism between lead team and counselors. The Program Cordinators were often overworked and not compensated fairly for their time. 

The joys of the job come from the connections you make with campers and other counselors. In spite of it all it is a great place to learn who you are.

I loved working at Warwa when I was front line staff. The social aspect & work were great.  However, when I moved into middle management, I enjoyed the work, but the social aspect was hard.

Warwa is about an hour from Edmonton and if you don't have friends in the staff field, it is hard to fill your social battery. My bosses tried to help, but it was still just trying to be friends with your coworkers.  There is talk about how the staff at Warwa are a big community and care about each other, but that is only true if you are in the good books.

You get two days off a week, but they aren't always next to each other, so that can be hard to plan things and recover from the work you had.

I hope it has gotten better now, but the year-round staff had to convince our bosses to have lives outside of camp and to have significant others spend the night. They had wanted all of our focus to be on camp and not really have a life outside it.

Warwa does great things for the community around it, the impact on the staff and campers. I learned lots about what type of leader I do not want to be, but I learned how to stand up for what I though& needed. There is no respect for the leadership team& what they do to ensure that the camp runs. There is also a huge lack of work life balance & boundaries; I would get calls at 8PM, I would get calls on my days off with things that could wait. There was also an expectation that we would take care of everything& everyone on site with no help or thanks. Overall my time at Warwa was not how I hoped it would turn out and would not recommend working there. 

Summer camp is one of the many experiances in life where no matter the role you hold, you will only get out what you put in. Some people just don't succeed with camp and the root of that problem is always personal mindset. If you are at camp to make life long friendships and impact the lives of children, then you will do just fine.

The only cons to camp are those that you yourself create. Everyone has room for growth. Not acnologing the steps you need to take to grow as a person and instead focusing on the aspects of camp that you feel are negitive only will negatively affect you.


Camp Warwa is an incredible place to work and grow. The community is welcoming, supportive, and full of energy, making every day both fun and meaningful. Staff and campers alike create an atmosphere of inclusion where everyone feels valued and respected. Whether you’re leading activities, building campfires, or helping kids challenge themselves, you’re constantly surrounded by positive vibes and teamwork. One of the standout parts of working at Camp Warwa is how well they care for their staff. The pay is fair and competitive for camp work, and there’s a real emphasis on personal growth, and team bonding. You’re encouraged to be yourself, try new things, and make lasting friendships. Highly recommended for anyone who loves the outdoors and people!


Warwa is a great place to be
if you want a community to feel like your own. The pay is mediocre, the communication from lead team and the executive director is awful and we were constantly left guessing. They completely failed to set a bar for the staff to reach for and didn’t take any issues seriously. There’s severe favouritism and what seems to be an overall lack of concern for their employees. I will say the Program Coordinator deserve all the credit for how they do their jobs. Also, there was rarely enough food and it was often raw. The counsellors would often be hungry throughout the day because we wouldn’t get the food we needed

I've worked at Warwa as a Junior Counsellor, Counsellor, and Outdoor Education Instructor, and every time I come back I find myself surrounded by such a tight, loving community. While the job can be challenging (working with kids always is), it's so rewarding. When I was struggling with mental health issues at Camp, the team had my back and supported me the whole way through. If you want a job that feels like family, work here. I can't recommend the experience enough.

One of my favourite jobs, worked here for a few years and it’s always changing, some years better then others due to new ways of being operated but management always finds a way help accommodate for you. pay is low but is stated in the job description so don’t be surprised. I gain so much experience, develop new skills, had lots of personal growth throughout my summers there, made so many life long friends and as-well as got to help make kids summers amazing! if you want to be a part of a community and team this is your place!

A typical day starts with waking kids up and going through morning activities. Then breakfast, after breakfast i administer the required childrens prescription . Then daily activities til lunch. After lunch the day picks back up and you do group games and  chill with kids and coworker til days end wherein you take a few to shower, etc. Go to sleep then repeat.
