Canada Games Centre

Started working at the CGC Field House Spring 2019 and they did all they could and more to help me learn the ins and outs of the job and get to know everyone. There were several fun teambuilding activities as well. I would help field house customers with various needs, as well as set up equipment. Though there were a few times when we would be short staffed during busy times, most shifts were a manageable challenge. If there were issues, management was good about helping to resolve the issues. I would have stayed on longer had it not been for the pandemic. In March 2020, CGC was closed to the public and part time employees were laid off as a result, effectively ending my employment. But as it was unusual circumstances, I don't hold anything against them for this  

The Canada Games Centre is a positive work invironment. They do their best to provide a positive work and job experience to all their staff. In the aquatics field at times it can be a bit messy and u organized but overral the Canada Games Centre is a great company to be employed by and I would highly reccoment working there.

A typical work day would be long and busy. I would stay more than half my day on my feet with good breaks. I respected the management and they showed the same amount of respect, would be respectful with call in's if I could not make shifts with at least a three hour notice. Our work place was very multicultural and respectful of different cultures and their beliefs. The hardest part of the job would be keeping calm during stressful situations but continuing to be calm. The most enjoyable part of this job was getting to meet new people and learn new things every day.

While working at the Canada Games Center, I enjoyed the positive conditions that my coworkers made for the parents, as well as for the camp youth. While having to discipline kids for misbehavior, it taught me to respect my older peers, such as parents and teachers alike. This job is a great summer job for students that are looking for an active work environment while not attending autumn or winter school semesters.

Fast passed work environment that had many changing demands.  Working in different positions was enjoyable.  Typical day we did light data entry, first aids, organized other employees and kept the pool and building running smoothly.  We were in charge of all first aids building wide, which kept us busy.  Management style was open and honest, we worked as a team, but had individual roles.

The superiors do their best to make the workplace as friendly as possible, but unfortunately have a habit of hiring employees that contradict that environment, as well as some who do not respect the property or privacy of others.

CGC is a good place to start out as a lifeguard and swim instructor, and the facility has a lot of resources available to employees
However, management can be a bit disorganized and because of the number of employees at the facility, getting consistent work hours can be tough

I loved working for the Canada Games Centre and would still be there today if there was more options for advancement and loyalty to current employees. Management seems to be there for their own benefit and not the regular employees which is frustrating.

Every Day was a good challenge, people are friendly, great place to work, great atmosphere. The management is very accommodating and understanding. If I needed to work, they always found a way for the work I missed, to be covered. Good feedback was always given to the workers.

Long 10+ hour shifts with early mornings and late nights, a lack of support staff leaving the morning operator alone to handle 2 rinks 4 courts and 37 toilets & 12 dressing rooms to clean on your own if no one show up.
Autocratic leadership with a disconnect to the needs of then employee.
