Canadian Base Operators

At my current employment I am responsible for but not limited to;

•	Design and implement administrative programs, including Computer Maintenance Management System, Maintenance Connection, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and mail to improve daily operations
•	Accurately enter data and process payroll transactions for multiple pay groups
•	Accountable for auditing the company contract and maintenance connection database 
•	Assist with setting up, updating and maintaining payroll data, records, documentation, and reporting systems 
•	Prepare agendas, minutes, proposals, reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, surveys, and presentations 
•	Responsible for filing and delivery of mail to staff 
•	Coordinating travel arrangements and accommodations 
•	Answer and direct incoming calls in a professional manner
•	Maintain a large database of all personal and professional development of staff and sub-contractors 
•	Identify discrepancies within invoices and obtain outstanding balances 
•	Prepare and organize security and human resource documentation
•	Assist with projects which includes attending meetings, determining the scope of the job, tracking the progress and handling all the required documentation

I have learned hot to work in a fast paced environment and how to stay organized and multitask. 

I have learned how to audit and maintain online databases.

The most enjoyable part of my job is everyone I work with they are like family.

The hardest part is working with a group of guys you need to basically take care of them all and they all have short fuses.

Was hesitant at first with the starting wage being alittle over minimum wage but with my situation was able to make it work.  It didn't take long for me to learn that I was the only person on the evening shift that had the knowledge and experience of working in the cleaning industry with over  20 years experience under my belt. At first the supervisor was very pleasant to me and seemed to be shocked with my knowledge and skills of the job. it didn't take long for me to see that the supervisor was a bully and used her position of power to cause trouble and misery amongst the team ...it's a toxic workplace and if your at any point your targeted by the supervisor It will be a matter of time before your terminated without warning with management only taking the supervisors exaggerated versions of whatever she feels can be said against you. 

Long days with split shifts to avoid paying OT. Early mornings and late nights and expected to sleep during the day on split shift because there are not enough hours between getting back to camp at night and having to return in the morning for proper rest.  Management knows nothing about running the airport. They have put an electrician in charge of running an airport. And it shows in the day to day operations. Toxic culture of employees running to management with every little thing behind your back to try to increase their own stature. Constant infighting amongst the crews and lack of respect for management.Employees disciplined for unclear infractions without proper investigations and without even speaking to the affected employees. A place where you spend more time watching your back than doing the work.

I worked on The North Warning System,  this is a string of Radar sites that run across the Canadian Arctic  I worked mainly as a Custodian/ Janitorial  duties that included working in the kitchen with Professional  Chefs, stocking Fridges, Freezers, doing cleanups after each meal, wiping tables, Machine scrubbing  floors, Buffing tile floors , Often would accompany Trades personal  to other sites, doing deep cleans and helping with overalls on Lister Engines, we would go there by HelicopterTravel , we were on call 24/7 365 days a year, we would do 6 wks on 6 wks off, the work was hard but the pay was good, a great place to work , good benefits, good Camaraderie.

Company is contracted with Federal Government so you'd think the pay would be good.  It's not good.  Bluntly, the company is run by greedy private shareholders.  If you are ok with that and have a military pension while working for them it's ok.  Everyone else is just underpaid.   Management is very weak, unskilled and amateurish.
Benefits are ok, but pension plan is not very good, they match your contributions and 'manage' the fund themselves.  Not very clear about the fact that when you retire it's a one-time lump sum that you have to manage yourself, it's not a lifetime pension.
Overall good work environment if you have a lot of dealings with the 'customer' (CF) but internal CBO, Black &McDonald is junk.


Cbo is a corporate company that treats you like corporate would. All promises and nothing returned to you. You’re just a number and will/can be replaced at anytime. No bonuses, no help from the higher ups. Cbo is a numbers only company and don’t realize the workers make those number. They only tell you what they want you to hear. No room for advancement unless you kiss someone’s but  Crammed work place, no heated shops for the winter and an office for 15 people and 1 bathroom.  Most primitive  company I have ever worked for. 

work for them for two week and was let go right after my first rotation wasn't fair to be with them to be shown around and to perform the job that they wanted you too, Their isn't no proper training and basically throw into the job management isn't fair and lack of leadership isn't their the way i was let go wasn't right in my experience wont recommend to work for them and very toxic environment. As well for other airline employee who wanted to apply think first before you submit your resume. 

Most of the time your a taxi service for military personnel bringing them to appointments or picking them up at airports in a minivan or a car. if you're not doing that then your detailing vehicles. Having an AZ license you're wasting away here. Great if you're retired.
 The people I work with a great helpful polite and professional. Every 5 weeks you work a 10-day schedule so you work a weekend. but you have two long weekends at the beginning and end of your cycle. There isn't much overtime but they say that there is some.

Very controlled atmosphere. They dangle the carrot just out of your reach while assuring you bigger and better things. 
Some of the longest short work days of my life.
Pay is based around 1984 platform. 
The guys that work there are all great. The management in the shop are comparable to snakes on a plane, they don’t belong and they’re always watching while trying to be sneaky. 
Not a positive work environment at all. 

Extremely interesting at first -- took over food services etc. from military in far north -- then challenging to be proactive and fulfill contract, as well as demonstrate opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings, in which military is not terribly interested. Still one of the best jobs I ever had.
