I worked there 5 years doing QA, and enjoyed the first 2 years. Then I fell under new management, and things went downhill from there. Colleagues with questionable people and decision-making skills got promoted, based more on their networking efforts than merit. Here are some other issues that I struggled with:
- Useless meetings: Every day meetings were scheduled, usually 1 hour each, when instead a 5-minute discussion would have been sufficient.
- The work load fluctuated wildly, with some extended periods without any work to do at all
- Non-productive tasks consume too much time; Employee engagement surveys, 1-on-1's with lead every 2 weeks, compulsory (boring) team lunches (paid by us!), endless compulsory training every year (fire safety, privacy, ...), ...
- A back-stabbing culture, most probably fueled by fear of firing due to lack of work. Often, help was refused by colleagues, with the explanation that they don't know, even it's obvious that they do know.
- Colleagues who barely ever show to work (work from home, "sick", holidays, ...), and still keep their job for years.
- Religious zealots as colleagues, who don't shy from discussing their "advice", or laugh at you if you don't think as they heard at the church
- Colleagues with such messed up personalities (anger management issues, borderline personality disorders, ...) that they could never find a job in a normal company, but can still work at CCO for decades!
WIth that said, here are some positives:
- Good pension
- Lots of work from home opportunities for everyone
- Lots of vacations

There is a total lack of vision and rudimentary understanding of integrated  provincial health care delivery systems at the Executive level. No idea how to collaborate with regional stakeholders and their information systems to effectively manage data and outcomes.
 
This leads to continuous wasteful spending of tax payer dollars by duplication of effort, fixing poor quality data or continually changing strategy and direction after never ending consultation and evaluation.
Anyone who disagrees or attempts to offer alternative viewpoint is marginalised and forced out.  

HR only serves the senior management team to terminate dissenters, never asks or enquires as to what the root cause of the constant turmoil is. HR now attempting to drive down salaries by offering reduced earnings to staff who want to move internally.

Be cautious about working at CCO for the long term, this is an organisation going down hill fast.

Working at Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) is a mixed bag.  Employees are generally nice to everyone and are pleasant to work with.  They pay fairly well and have a pretty flexible work schedule.  The major problem there is that Management and beyond are not on the same page.  The back and forth between them and their employees is horrid at best.  There is a distinct lack of ownership on the part of management often placing the blame on their employees instead.  Advancement is non-existent for the most part.  Its very rare to see someone be promoted from within with Management seemingly preferring to bring in externally.  Because if this, employees seem to become very bitter as they continue to work and get passed on.

I wouldn't recommend working at CCO unless it was on contract.  Permanent placement can be great at first but after that first year, the wrinkles begin to show and it become more and more frustrating to deal with

A typical day at work is administrative functions and to ensure that the office of the VP is run smoothly. Calendar management and coordination of meetings. A fast paced environment. Concentration on details. Learned a lot from being in the organization for the past 16 years growing intellectually and responsibility-wise. Excellent management staff in place to guide the organization every step of the way. Good morale amongst staff. Do not believe a job is hard if you have the right attitude and the aptitude to learn and perfect it. The most enjoyable part of the job is you are given more and more responsibility because the management has confidence in your ability to perform.

We are like a close family here at Cancer Care Ontario.  My team consisted of loyal and dependable professionals who have been with the company for over 10+ years. I have enjoyed every moment at CCO and I have learned so much about Cancer Analytics ETL and Data Warehouse systems and how they contribute positively to the fight against cancer!  My team has been involved in so many interesting and complex projects which we have completed successfully and on-time and have benefited Cancer research in Ontario.  I love working with the Operations Team and experiencing what it's like to work with technical professionals who take pride in their work and care deeply about how the technology can help in the fight against cancer!

• Maintained and prepared the cancer centre operating funding schedule and various assigned month-end schedules
• Ensured accuracy of financial statements
• Responsible for invoices and reconciliation of multiple accounts receivables and maintained up-to-date accounts receivable sub-ledgers
• Performed finance-related data entry into the system within acceptable timeframes
• Matched invoices, recorded bank deposits, and printed cheques for assigned business units and processed corporate cheques using the CCO database and ACCPAC system
• Managing all new customer and vendor applications and set-up using ACCPAC
• Assisted with month end duties, and administrative work

Gotta love all the reviews written by 'lifer' pub sec slugs. CCO is a great place to learn jack. Except how to waste tax money and pretend that you're busy. 
If you've ever entertained the idea of moving from the private sector to something 'meaningful' - spare yourself the grief. 
I've witnessed nothing but pathetic, inept management and some of the most vengeful immature behaviour from people who should know better. What a terrible waste of a good cause and our hard earned tax money.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I have worked at Cancer Care Ontario for two years. Most of the people that work there are friendly and educated, however, there is a lot of corporate policy which gets in the way of getting work done.

While the pay and benefits are fairly good, there is little to no culture at the company. Most of the workers come in and force a smile in the morning and are gone at 5pm with little or no social aspect.

If you are simply looking for a job and are comfortable without much ability to advance, no bonuses, and little social/culture in the company you may be satisfied.

 EDW Integration ETL design, coding debugging and testing, performance tuning
 Data profiling, standardization, enrichment and comparison
 Stored-procedure / function creation, code migration and job schedule
 Daily data warehouse production support and EDW ETL maintenance
 Informatica server routine administration, including domain, user, repository and folder management, code promotion, service monitoring and troubleshooting etc.
 QA test cases creation, query / Crystal report designing and ETL docs preparation

There is a lot of red tape and politics which makes it hard to get things done and improve existing processes.  The agency is small and is very difficult to advance and get promoted to a higher position.  There is a lack of learning opportunity.  The agency doesn't promote continuously learning and there is lack of funding for training.  It is a long winded process to make a case to get funding for training.  It doesn't promote or try to obtain talent from within the organization.  Thus, this leads to high turnover.  It is a waste of taxpayers money.
