Candu Energy

The work was project based and ranged from building a full test system to programming tools and systems that would be used at site.

I learned the entire process of building a full system. I would first estimate on how long the job would take and the budget I would need to complete the job. I would then talk to the suppliers and get quotes for the parts needed and order them with help from the procurement department. Once the parts arrived, I would then build the tool or test system, calibrate the devices, commission the tool or systems, then hand it over to the engineer who requested it.

My co-workers were very pleasant to work with. They were very knowledgeable people who worked hard and were fun to work with.

The hardest part of the job was the budget and the deadlines. By the time the job finally got to me, it was already behind schedule and over-budget. I would not compromise on the parts that were bought so some late nights in order to get the job done on time was needed.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when the job was at the end of the job. A sense of pride always came over me when I saw the tool or system work. There would be a few bugs and some changes the engineer who was using the tool would want, but overall the system would work as specified.

My work was doing Drafting work for OPG. Bruce power projects all nuclear work.
 
Receiving sketch by Visio or marks up and create a new drawing using CAD or MicroStation software.
Also editing raster drawings by using raster CAD or MicroStation.
Also I was running all the work for tooling department by myself.
Applying the procedure in all my work and  maintain quality and delivery on time.
looking closely to the work and asking question in the front to maintain the work in high quality and save time.

Organize the work and I do it accordingly.

Excellent time management and all the work done within budget.

I am good team builder and sharing my experience with other to get the job done on time.

When the work is last mint and I have to finish before the due dated in this case I have to stay over time and finish the work to keep it on time and good quality.

Also my skills give me the chance to gain experience from all types the work I do, such as I&C , Electrical and Prosses.
Checking other people work in drafting group when they need help.
I like my work and enjoy time working, good team builder, and very flexible person.

The work was project driven. I would get an assignment from my supervisor to program/modify a tool or Human Machine Interface system (HMI).

The majority of the work I did was what I went to school for. I programmed PLC's (Siemens and Schneider Electric) as well as modified HMI systems (WinCC Flexible and Iconics).

My main interaction with management was my supervisor and he and I were on excellent terms. There were times we had argued about systems but it was a good working relationship.

The hardest part of the job was keeping with the deadlines. Not much time was ever given to the electrical side of the tools, so sometimes it was hard to keep with the schedule when problems were occurring in the program for an unknown reason. Some late nights were needed in order to get the tool done in a reasonable time.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when you would get the tool operating the way the owner wanted it to work. The tool wouldn't be release for site unless it could perform flawlessly.

Typical day of work includes:
-crane and forklift inspections and operation
-plant rounds, including boiler, chiller, compressors, HVAC unit operation and other plant processes
-operation and maintenance of plant equipment
-inventory and disposal of hazardous waste

management is okay.

co-workers are great to work with. They make the day go by much faster by making it a more enjoyable place to work at.

Hardest part of my job is ordering parts.

Most enjoyable part of my day is our cafeteria. The food is fantastic and very inexpensive.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, ensures, promotes, and contributes to a positive and robust health safety security and environment culture within the Nuclear Industry and ensures compliance to applicable Health and Safety regulations, policies and procedures. Ensures the health and safety of all employees within the Company Nuclear business unit.

Standard hours, with amazing people. Learnt a new program along with new ways to do AutoCAD and Revit. They gave a controlled environment to learn such skills. There was no lack of work they kept you working right though the week. The hardest part of this job was getting to know everyone in a short amount of time but the most enjoyable part was getting to know them all and their skills and personalities.

Working at Candu Energy was one of the best  experienced I had in my life. What I learned was don't be scared to try new adventure and gained new experienced working with professionals co-workers. The hardest part of the job at first was dealing with the buyers because they are always busy with the client and the most enjoyable part of the job was my boss wont bother me for the whole shift.

Working in CANDU is very interesting and learning of high technology. Working force was highly educated and well trained. Due to nature of research oriented projects every job was fulfilling once it was achieved.

Still struggling with crown company mentality. Hard-workers are not appreciated, but pushed out instead. Engineering departments are great, and so are project management, but Marketing & Business Development is in great pain.

It is a Privately run company but its culture strongly reflects its past of being a crown corporation. Most departments are run by people who dont like change. With SNC - Lavalin with its own set of problems, Candu is not the greatest employer out there.
