Cape Breton Regional Municipality

- Throughout the summer of 2012 I worked as the Recreation Intern at CBRM. I was responsible for organizing events and festivals throughout the municipality, such as Canada Day and Action Week 2012, as well as children activity days at multiple locations throughout Sydney. 
- The most difficult part of my job was the supervision of fourteen employees throughout the summer. Although this was difficult I am thankful to have the opportunity to gain experience in managing individuals and learning how to manage my time and resources better.

Typical Monday to Friday job, hours can peak in harsh weather such as snow storms to keep snow removal equipment working. Gained automotive experience working next to one of the sharpest techs in the area. It is a union job but management does a great job keeping the peace while making it an effective workplace. Co-workers are great to work with in my division. Hardest part of the job is the take home income but the benefits are good.

A typical day at work would be cash room first thing in the morning counting up the cash cans from each bus then preparing deposit. Then check daily driver sheet, then enter driver's time cards in the payroll book. Enter sick time and vacation time in the proper books. Enter payroll in SAP, a program that the CBRM uses for payroll. There was no part of the job that was hard, but entering the payroll was the most importan one because everyone wants a paycheck. Everyone was great to work with. They were a great buch of people.

Workday started with picking up garbage from parks and making sure the bins were emptied starting at 8 am. We would have a quick morning break that lasted about half an hour and then we went on to trimming grass. We would take about an hour for a lunch break and then back at cutting grass until 3 pm.  Lots of exercise were a bonus to the job.  This was with the Parks & Grounds unit of the CBRM.

EFFICIENTLY RUN FACILITY WITH VERY LITTLE STRESS AND A GOOD GROUP OF MEN TO WORK WITH.  FELLOW SUPERVISORS WERE PATIENT AND UNDERSTANDING  IN GETTING THEIR EQUIPMENT SERVICED AND REPAIRED

The CBRM is a great place to work for if you do not mind being on the move and working outdoors. Depending upon your job title, you will likely be spending a lot of time with children and people in the general public.

I only worked there during the summer of 2017 on a University grant, the crew were incredibly easy to get along with, the management was very understanding and the hours were good.

I loved working here! You learned a lot during the student summer grant jobs and got to have a good time and be a part of a job with fun employees! It was a blast all summer with the grant job!

It was great working with with the public and fellow employees, learning newtypes of jobs over the years with co-workers and managers. As I enjoy learning new skills it was just a great overall experience.

Was great at first then things changed new management came and everyone hated it there propelled changed wasn’t a good place to work anymore no one was happy anymore
