Working at card factory was not the best but also not the worst : on quiet days it was mostly restocking and serving customers but God forbid if you’d like holidays such as Christmas, Valentines, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day off. You aren’t allowed to take ANY holiday from end November till January, you start putting Christmas cards out in July so you’ll despise the holiday after it. You have to work Christmas Eve to set the shop up for Boxing Day so that people can come and buy 99p cards for 50p. You might be on a 15 hour contract but consistently do 30 hours a week but your holiday will only be 15 because that’s your contract. Management at my store showed so much favouritism to certain people that it became unbearable. You get paid minimum wage and this is worse when you’re 18 but work just as hard as the 40 year olds but get paid less for it. You’re expected to juggle a million things because management is expected to use a minimum amount of hours to save money. It feels like it’s almost always understaffed, or its just you and one other person working. 30 minute unpaid break if you work 6 hours but the manager would only rota you in for 6 hours so that you didn’t get a break. But I did really love some of my colleagues and I would’ve quit much sooner if it wasn’t for them <3

Just don't work here, ever. All management picks favourites and treat the rest like garbage, which translates into having things said behind your back, not getting a fair share of hours or tasks, being made to work overtime with no pay etc (and then get put on their bad books when you refuse to work free). My last shift was traumatic, the assistant manager screamed at me and slammed a door in my face, simply because I had complained about her to a new manager (didn't trust the previous manager as they were besties). The shop lost about 5 staff members in 3 weeks, so the pressure on remaining staff got worse. They also promote people to positions they are unqualified for (as long as you brown-nose a bit), while the rest of the untouchables are stuck on a till all day. The pay is minimum wage, so it really is not worth having to work in such a hostile environment with virtually no mental health support for some pocket money.

I get paid minimum wage and the manager is always blaming me for stuff that wasn't even my fault. She mixes work like with personal life, fussing about a 50p coin that we gave to a customer with their change when she was really saving it for her husband who collects them. Safety is trash, the back fire exit is clocked off by cardboard boxes. The toilet is sometimes blocked off by boxes as well. Just in general not the best place to work. The manager also leaves the shop at some points to get herself lunch at the shops, leaving me in the store by myself.

The only good thing was that I was able to choose my hours.

With the right team and manager, Card Factory is a decent place to work. Hours can fluctuate throughout the year, meaning you get less hours through the summer which is understandable due to summer being the quietest period for the company. 
However, hours usually aren’t enough and would possibly need a second job if you want to afford necessities 

This was only a temporary position for extra money for Christmas. I picked up on the skills needed extremely quick. This was a busy period for the store and I thoroughly enjoyed working here. The staff and management were all helpful and it was a fun place to work.

Management of company couldn't care less about their staff and the pay is shocking for the amount of work that's carried out. very short lunch breaks and expected to do everything for the manamgment teams who then take credit for it all.

at first was brillliant then went on to where i was not getting enough hours, then they dropped me to 4 hours a week, it was a temporay job for christmas and my contract ended in the next july.

Not a good to work  hours are terrible pay terrible my first pay was  wrong still waiting to be paid. Management has not got a clue how to deal with staff.

I hated working here. dead end job for people in their mid 40's who never had the chance to go for a job they actually wanted to do. If you know what I mean. Yas Queen.

The staff were friendly and put me at ease while I was being trained but unfortunately, the pay is poor. There was often lots to do which kept me busy.
