Cardan Contracting

A typical day at work would be setting bins throughout the construction site basically cleaning up after everyone inside and out. also i was responsible for setting up safety rails going up and down the stairs. On the odd day i would be in the basement digging out trenches in the gravel for plumbing pipes. i would also have to cover freshly painted hardwood stairs as well as flooring of all kinds.  i took notes of things that looked different and unusual an reported them. In the winter time i would clear off all snow from the road to the door an then lay deicing salt. there was a lot of vacuuming of the basement floors during final stages as well as on the new carpets. i locked all the doors on the houses an closed all the windows. what i learned  most from completing over 300 homes is that its pays to work hard. i also believe i could accomplish any trades work personally at home or abroad but i love being a labourer. So he management was excellent. Them being a contractor. i  found everything went smoothly from phone call to phone call and site to site and paycheck to paycheck for the culture aspect of work i got along really well with everyone. I no problems socially interacting with all sorts of different backgrounds even those who had the strongest of accents. We all seemed to get along. As for the hardest part of my job I would have to say it would have been staying on top of my good health. the most enjoyable part of my job was the environment and being apart of a completion of such projects.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing everyday sucked worse company. How he's still in business is beyond me

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unsafe broken down trucks. When your not allowed to go through inspection stations there's a problem

Terrible, never know what's going on or where you'll be. He only cares about money not the people who make it.

Stressful and kaotic very unorganized and the equipment is garbage

If you take a laborers job with Cardan there is no future in it.  The owner will ask you to show him the respect of not letting other site contractors poach you.  Do yourself a favor and use Cardan as a stepping stone to something better because you will get laid off without cause under the guise of moving you to another site.
Pay was decent and the work was ok but management has no respect for it's employees.   In the year I was there I must have seen 20 people laid off and replaced.

In over 20 years in the construction industry i have NEVER worked at a worse place.
First off the owner ( who ive known for 17yrs) is an absolute snake ! Dont trust this guy hes a sleezball !!! The machine, trucks and equipment  are the worst garbage that can be purchased at auction.   There is an VERY high turnover because people get fired at the drop of a dime

Number one , get everything in writing! Dont settle for a "starting wage" with a verbal agreement to review in 30/60 days because it will never happen. Communication is lacking and emails are hard to get replies...

Your days are displaced into many different directions for the given jobs to be completed.
Very long days as an equipment operator.
You get to work with a mixture of other trades at the job sites and see builds like a housing project come together.

You work out side year around. And they have a high turn over rate. There way of firing you is laying you off with no call back. But overall it's pretty easy work as a labour.

Busy place to work, days go by very fast! Always something to do. Positive work atmosphere. Employees paid well. All around a good job and you feel accomplished at the end of the day. 

I liked working at cardan it was just to far a drive for me or I would still be there. They have a wide variety of equipment to fix the staff and owner are very friendly

The job was typical work for the construction industry. They paid a comparable wage. I had to various location to perform the jobs. The people at Cardan were very helpfull and pleasent.
