while in maintenance my duties were layout work for motor bases, building forms with bolt settings, scaffolding building, tube and clamp, wooden scaffolding. use of transit and level.

wood handling operation of D-8, D-9 cats. loaders 966 and 980. experience in operation of track mobile used in moving chemical cars.

became a team player and worked well with co-workers, enjoyed working in the maintenance department and again in material handling department, enjoyed operation of equipment,

Hardest was leaving the Pulp mill as I had enjoyed working there over the years.

worked 3 hours feeding chip reclaim to provide pulp digester with wood chips, D9 cat.  worked 3 more hours feed hog reclaim to provide steam plant power boiler with hog fuel, 980 wheel loader,  worked 3 more hours managing chip piles because of continuous chip delivery. D9 cat.  then 3 more hours as a utility, driving Track mobile for rail car movement,  Box cars for pulp shiping, Chemical cars for pulp production. 972,950 wheel loaders, Volvo dump truck for clean up and other duties as required.

I'd show up at work at 7am and people wouldn't put their boots on until 10am. There are so many useless people employed there that just come to punch in and punch out, it's ridiculous. Often people will gossip and talk behind each others back for something to pass the time. There is no room for movement as everyone who has 10 or more years struggle for a good position. As the job pays well, it is defiatly not worth the mental stress and literal carcinogenic fumes.

Pros: 
-Pays well for being able to come home everyday.
-Good pension, benefits package, and paid time off, boot allowances. 
-The people on the floor are great to work with.

Cons:
-Production is #1, safety culture is crammed down your throat but it's all smoke and mirrors.
-Managed by bullies
-Terrible communication thoughout all levels of management and engineering
-Good work ethic is not appreciated and poor work ethic is not corrected = no motivation.
-Working for a corporation that is too big to care.


Typical day would start at 0800 with a safety meeting and handing out of daily scheduled maintenance work orders. The mill has a lot of pumps, I got to rebuild and align pumps which is great. Management is great, provides a quality work environment. Co-workers are easy to get along with. Hardest part of the work would be the environment inside the steam plant, it is very hot next to the recovery boiler. Most enjoyable would be the new experience I am gaining everyday

To much cronyism in the workplace. Promoting the friends of management rather than the right person. Very good people to work with at the ground level. Mill crews were all eager to perform tasks at a safe and productive manner. Was not difficult to engage workers to buy in on the mills philosophy on safety and productivity

Good place to work but to much free time on your hands so very gossipy place. If you're a lazy person who wants to float through life then come work here. No one will even give you anything to do. Some management is persuaded by hearsay rather than facts.

Work starts from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Good benefits and workers compensation. One of the best places employers in Quesnel. Mill has been running since 1970
