Hands down the best trucking company I have worked for ( 25 years in this business) . I was surprised when I first started with CID several years prior at how differently they did things from previous company’s I’ve worked for .. These guys got it down . Lots going on behind the scenes of course but  For the most part the amazing night crew work the trailers which have been shunted up from the barge to our terminal , then reload assigned trailers for the drivers coming in to start their shift .. when I first was hired on with CID , I started delivering freight on most of the many routes they service which was very beneficial to me as I was new to the island .  I eventually acquired my own route which is truly amazing. The customers always tell me how happy they are with our service and if there is any concern whatsoever it is promptly taken care of .  The owners are very involved and as I was told “ the door is always open “ as their always willing to hear any idea or concern you may have .. great family feel here.
 To have the feeling of wanting to go to work and looking forward to what the day will bring is how I feel with CID .  I could go on , but instead I’ll just encourage you . If you want a job where the dispatchers go above and beyond to take care of the drivers , where three awesome mechanics take care of the trucks , trailers and equipment we rely on , and where you can feel like work is your second home ,  This is the the place !   


I’ve been with Central Island for over 2 years and it’s probably been one of the best jobs I’ve had. If you have the right attitude and work ethic there is absolutely opportunities for career growth. In my experience, the management has always been supportive of my professional (and personal) growth throughout my time here. They offer annual reviews (which I haven’t had at any other job) and they welcome your feedback on where you see your future within the company and what you would be interested in learning. The job itself can be fast paced at times, which I happen to like, but nothing unmanageable. The team of friendly, helpful people that work at each terminal really do make every day at work enjoyable. There can be some days that are more challenging than others, but all in all it’s a really great place to work with a really great group of people!

When I started with central island I was just a forklift operator unloading and receiving product off the trailers brought in from 300am-11am which I did for the first month before my warehouse manager/early morning dispatcher quit and then I was stuck doing my job and his triple duty time which was fine at first cause I thought I was going to get the job. I did the job for 3 months until they hired a guy who couldn't tell up from down so for the next two months I had to train this guy to do his job while still having to do my job all just so they could fire him and for them to tell me I wasn’t getting the job yet cause I didn’t have enough experience but only did the job for 5 months let alone the 6 years I had prior to the job but oh well I didn’t have enough experience. 

The pay is decent, the job itself is not difficult, each terminal has a decent rapport between terminal management and employees despite a relatively high turnover rate for staff. Daily workload is dependent on freight volume, but is generally very manageable. Equipment is on the older side, but mostly well-maintained. Benefits, paid holidays, and STAT holiday pay are honored, pay comes through on time.

Unfortunately, there is usually little to no room for advancement depending on your position in the company, and upper management are often difficult to work with and have a tendency to micromanage unnecessarily.

Great company to work for awesome people great environment to work in, if you have experience in the industry then it only makes sense to join our team. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Getting up in the morning!!  haha just kidding for me there isn’t any stress other then getting  the freight to our customers on a timely manner.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Laid back lots of joking around but work oriented great people.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Great! Busy but a happy place to work for day in and day out.

I have been with this company for a very long time. I have had several roles here over the years with a short break away from the Company and have seen it grow year after year. 
Day to day is quite busy. CID is a very dynamic company with a lot going on. Everyone takes their jobs seriously know their jobs well. Everyone I encounter is willing to help out anywhere, anytime. 
It takes some time to settle in, but will soon feel like where you belong.

Having been in the Transportation and Warehousing Industry for 20 years, the positive team atmosphere with Central Island Distributors is something more company's should strive for. I've only been with them for a few months but have been working with them through other carriers for the past 10 years. It was an opportunity i could not pass up and their reputation as a quality employer is a welcome change. I look forward to continued success with the Central Island Distributors family

I don't know if anything has changed but when I was there you were booked for 9 hours per day as they were federally regulated so 45 hours before getting any overtime paid but for some reason the STATS were always paid 8 hours. Doesn't matter how hard you work or how reliable you are you won't get paid or respected more so remember that. In the years that I worked there, there were drivers leaving almost every months. Ask yourself why. Good luck.

I saw some negative reviews on here and wanted to share my experience with this company.  I have worked for CID a long time and they have always treated me fairly.  I like the people I work with and the work is pretty easy, with power jacks, newer trucks and mechanics on staff.  They are a family-run company and treat you like a person, not a number.  They have rules that need to be followed but if you work hard and care about how well you do your job you can excel at CID.

Ok place to work, other coworkers are cool and personable. Management is lacking skills at many time. People are intimidated and bullied if delivery are done "too slowly". Lack of manager it seems they have 2 people doing the same job when only 1 is called manager. Pay was good for how easy the driving was. Guys in the warehouse were nice but demanding and standoffish at times. Seems like the smokers got a break whenever they want and  other drivers and warehouse staff were coming in late smelling like marijuana and not being reprimanded. And
