I have loved working there for the time I was there, but I can’t say it was due to the job itself. Most of the people you work with despise the job with a passion (unfortunately, with reason), and that is how most friendships are tied.

The pay is severely underneath what it should be; they will tell you they can’t bring your salary up after you have been there for years, and then hire someone less qualified with a higher salary - unfortunately, that specific scenario has happened to most of the aquatics department, the gym department, the reception positions, as well as the management positions. The salary also does not equate the excessive expectations that get set. Plus, they expect you not to talk about your salary with your coworkers (which is always a red flag in jobs).

Aside from that the work environment is very nice so long as you don’t work while management is present as they have a tendency to micro-manage every little unnecessary thing the employees do, to the point where their own assistants will need pretend to go along with it, and simply not apply what they say.

I find it unfortunate that the little gym that they have has doubled prices this year as it was a nice addition to the center - it is not worth the price. I find it especially unfortunate for the population that requires that special kind of care, and will no longer be able to afford it. Whatever excuse they may have for this, it does not justify the cruelty of that matter. This was supposed to be a community center, but it is being managed as a private business, and it is simply sad to see the people who should be benefiting from it get pushed to the complete side as such.

I would have to continuously supervise children of all ages, play games, go swimming, etc. Every Wednesday, the entire camp would go on an outing (water slides, Centre de la Nature, Funtropolis, etc) where strict supervision was required. Fridays were themed (pajama day, Halloween day, etc) and each age group would have their own set of activities, organized by the monitors. There would also be swimming, for 45 minutes a day. If it were a nice day, we would go to the park, play soccer outside and have other activities arranged (water balloons for instance, if children were age appropriate).
Through this job, I learned how difficult it is to take care of children, but also how fun it could be. I became more organized, patient, and creative. Co-workers were very fun and animated. We would sing at the beginning and end of a camp day. Also, the end of the summer, we would all organize a dance. 
The hardest and most enjoyable part of the job was working with children. As one can imagine, children can be very stubborn, and difficult to work with, since they don't always listen. With that said, they were also the best part of my job. Playing with them and spending 5 days a week with them and getting to know them was an amazing experience.

Everything about this place screams of a community center until you look at the numbers. Overpriced services and underpaid staff, contrasting with the word "Community". As someone who worked for well over 5 years, I loved the coworker atmosphere.. all the employees I've been with were superb. However as top management seem nice at first, you quickly realize they talk negatively behind your back to your superior the second you're out of the picture. Salaries and work expectation were in the opposite ends of each other. Management expect A1 work quality and commitment. Highly demanding in time and quality resource but hardly delivers salary wise. Raises can't even keep up with the minimum wage increase let alone the high inflation rate. Don't expect making bank on this one. I enjoyed it for the most part because I love challenge but not anymore when you realize that truly if the feeling of appreciation is mutual, the job should also invest in you.

Bottom line: Okay-ish short term job (3-6month) if you're in a pinch, at best.

As a previous animator for their summer camp, I regret to say that this job was not a good experience. Their is excessive unprofessionalism amongst management, and more so, amongst Employees, with excessive drama and inter-camp relationships. This would often encroach upon the camp experience. With over 5 years in the camp environment, I would have to say Sablon pales in comparison to other camps in not only its pay (minimum wage for all positions, including leadership, specialists, and integration aides) but its treatment of employees. Beware! Do NOT miss a day if you are working there. The rest of that summer, you may have to work 8-6 to make those hours up. As appealing a summer job at a camp may be,  stay away from this organization!

This is the type of job you go home and in the moment it may feel draining and tiring, but when you take a second to look at the bigger picture you realize how rewarding and lucky you are to experience these moments shaping these kids lives. Camp is truly a family for life, whether it is with the kids, co-workers or management. My experience at this job has allowed me to develop as a person and as a professional, which opened doors to multiple career and educational paths. In sum, the job is as hard as you make it, if you dont seek support and organize your weeks it will seem drastically more difficult than if you use the tools and support that are allocated and easily accessible. 

Most people there were amazing, the job itself - not so much. Expectations were unrealistic and unrewarding. Management was always asking you to do more without giving back. Most employees there were amazing and adorable. Ambiance is really nice most of the time. Schedule was flexible but the amount of pressure put on you from upper management was just entirely ridiculous, especially when raises are so incredibly rare regardless of how much work you put in or how long you’ve been working there for.

All in all, most people there are very nice and friendships that are built there are worth it - but it is not the kind of job you can expect any professional fulfillment from

I worked there for a few summers and honestly I've never felt more at home at work. I woke up wanting to go to work. The people were so appreciative of the work we put into the camp. The vibe was amazing and I would definitely recommend working at the camp. Can't wait to go back :)

Centre du Sablon was an experience i will never forget. I enjoyed my time there especially the new people i met. Some things could have been improved like the organization but it was ok overall.

I had the pleasure of working here. The team is great and the community members just make it all the more enjoyable. Working at a non-profit is not always easy but management was supportive.

Spent a lot of time working with really great kids. Fun activities planned in the camp, like reptizoo and magicians, and pizza lunch every Friday. Staff get along pretty well.
