We generally start at 7 am, processing farmed Atlantic salmon for transport from our plant to global buyers.  Working in a cooled environment for 3.5hrs a shift.  Typically work is done in the early evening.

Management is friendly, fair, and accommodating.  

The crew are welcoming and work well together to finish the days processing as quickly and safely as possible.

The days can go long depending on mechanical issues, personnel, and work load.  This can put a strain on family and social life.

Cermaq is an amazing company which provides its workers with transport to and from the site, full benefits, and decent wages.  They provide paid training for all positions
The company hosts many events throughout the year to build team moral and a sense of family among co-workers

What is the best part of working at the company?
I work as a saltwater technician for Cermaq. I’d say the best part about working for Cermaq is the crew, the scenery, and how easy going the crews are.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The hardest part of the job would be the larger operations that periodically happen, like treatment or harvest

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is what you make of it, if you don’t live and work well with others, you won’t last very long. Other than that it is an amazing environment to work in.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get up, start morning checks, work on projects, have lunch, work on projects, evening checks, supper, bed

I started this job with a very clear direction and payscale. But been here 8 years and not one incentive raise from my boss for my abilities and drive or the amount of sacrifice. I have seen raises handed out across the Board but no retention or training pay for senior employees who do all the training for new hires. Absolutely no thanks or no incentive. I see this becoming a very young high turnover company that has many milestones to over come and no real engagement on retaining their senior staff. We are over worked and under paid

I am an active individual, enjoy outdoor sporting activities, hunting, fishing and team sports. My typical day at work was mostly office duties and also included outdoor activities, conducting inspections, auditing, risk assessments and incident investigations. I thoroughly enjoyed working with those involved in the aquaculture business. The hardest part of the job was having access to vessels to get me out to the fish farm sites. Most enjoyable part of the job was meeting and working with all aspects of the aquaculture industry. Areas of work included the West coast of Vancouver Island, Port Mc Neill, Campbell River, Duncan and Port Alberni.

Lots of bad experiences including being overworked, forced tolerance of corporate white-washing and green-washing with little allowance for debate, very little control despite decades of experience, change in reporting structure promised at hire with no communication until after the fact (I wouldn't have taken the job in the first place if I knew how poorly they treated their staff), explicit and implicit pressure to not report unethical dealings of a colleague.  There are some great people working for the company but it didn't make up for the seriously flawed senior management.

Company seems to be developing - there's a focus on improving, making a work culture that's people focused.  Good opportunities to join the industry, but also good opportunities for people with industry education.  Growth opportunities are available, some roles more than others.  High focus on workplace safety.  Been with the company for a few years now and it's changed a lot (for the better) and seems to want to keep growing and improving.  Good place to work.

I work with the HR Team and feel our management has built a good team that has diverse skills and positive mindsets with strong desire to support each other.  

I find the overall Cermaq culture comes with optimistic and intelligent leadership, and employees who are willing to learn and be supportive team members.  

Cermaq is one of my favourite companies I've worked for!

Working in the Administration office I find working with the team enjoyable, we have a solid safety culture and I feel the company is committed to growth and learning. It is a well paid job with good benefits and flexibility for those who arent taking advantage. I do find there are some areas for growth but feel if you are open and honest cermaq is willing to hear it and work to overcome it which is appreciated.

Started working with the company as an entry level technician, eventually moving into lower management. Overall a very enjoyable experience. The work is engaging and meaningful; the location is amazing and my coworkers were awesome. However, the experience was soured by operational changes and poor management priorities that created an environment where doing the job to the level I was satisfied with was no longer possible; leading to stress, repetitive injury and burnout.

Spent 10 years in a variety of admin position. The people leader and manager need to go. No HR in Tofino which makes no sense because that's the biggest area of their operation. Seen several lovely employees leave the people and culture department. The leader needs to go.  Pay is unfair, and inconsistent across the board. It depends on managements mood and if you're their friend. 

Some of their leaders aren't bad. They will try to support you. 

A definite lack of growth and development.
