Accounting Manager wanted to get rid of Team Lead and collaborating with the CFO (Director at that time) to create the following scenario:

Through fake hiring process, the Accounting Manager was hiring CFO's personal best friend to be the Accountant.

On the Accountant’s 2nd day of employment, the Accounting Manager was demoting the Team Lead to Accountant position. The Team Lead declined and resigned instead.

As soon as the Team Lead left the building, the Accountant was promoted to be the Team Lead.

1 year after, the CFO fired the Accounting Manager.

1 year after, the Accountant was promoted to be the Controller.

Soon after, the Controller was collaborating with the relatively newly hired Accounting Director to create the following scenario:

Through fake hiring process*, the Controller promoting 2 Staff members to be the Team Lead (Controller was hiring for 2 Team Lead) just because they were the Controller favorite, blatantly disregarding meritocracy and transparency.

1 year after, the newly hired CEO fired the Controller.

If this is not gong show, then what is this?


*Fake hiring process: The Controller personally told 2 of his Staff that they will be promoted to be the Team Lead, but the Controller still wants to post the job, accepting resumes, and conducting interviews just to deceive everyone that the promotion process was fair, open to everyone and transparent.

The job was posted for 4 days only (Fri - Mo). 

In the end, even though there were other more qualified staff members who was applying for the job, the Controller promotes the 2 Staff that he already set to be the Team lead in the first place.

The Controller should have just promoting the 2 Staff to be the Team Lead without creating fake process but better yet, the Controller should be promoting based on meritocracy and not favoritism.

A corporation with a very corporate demeanor.  Parts and service staff have not been given raises in years, managers have unattainable parameters  to receive bonuses and sales commissions are quite low with no bonuses.
Additionally, for a company selling industrial products, few of the knowledgeable blue collar staff are promoted to senior positions.  Outside inexperienced industry people with business degrees bring new ideas with no input from the staff who have many many years of experience - resulting in ongoing failure and staff turn over.
You will never feel appreciated or valued  in this work environment.
Sales people beware of an exit policy that will strip you of income earned that will not be paid - negotiate your exit terms prior to starting.

I have been working with Cervus Equipment for the past five years, the process is improving drastically, communication and relationship is the best, the program accelerate to great is a great program. we see each other as a family. management side i have never seen a operation management, a CEO, CFO, Controller, Supervisor, and Team lead interact, treat, address, solve, and support employees like this. i worked the same environment before were CEO doesn't even say good morning or doesn't even know your name. i am very happy to wake up every morning with a smile to walk into the building to work. A work place key is positive and respective environment that's what you can find in CERVUS EQUIPMENT.

Cervus Equipment is one of those growing companies that isn't quite sure what it wants to be when it grows up. From its vision statement and senior leadership perspective, it's looking to empower it's employees, without focusing on too much policy and red tape.

From an execution/operational perspective, new policies seem to be drafted every week, with several of them going against what is stated in the company's vision.

Overall, it has potential, but the current state of affairs is significantly reducing morale and damaging the company's culture.

My day would generally be quite busy as I had a coworker that really didn't pull their weight, so I was left to do much of the work. I learned that when a new manager comes in that has worked with some of your co workers, they will turn a blind eye to the fact that they are not pulling their weight. the work place culture was great for the most part everyone got along. hardest part of job was the fact that the manager had favorites. the most enjoyable part of the job was helping the customers and seeing them smile as they walked out the door with a fixed truck.

Thoroughly enjoyed the staff I worked with, the individual store had run very well.   The company is very top heavy with managers, some never stepped foot in our loacation nor met the staff and every time they wanted to save money they cut the grass root workers, no job was secure.  This eventually resulted in triple the work load for the remaining over stressed staff creating some very unhappy customers due to the poor service.  If you can't recieve stock through the back door, you can't make unrealistic sale quota through the front door.  No service in Cervus!

I've never worked for a company where there was so much investment in the employees. I've been with Cervus for one year and I need a calendar to keep track of training dates. Things like Cervus Leadership University and the training allowances for apprentices are also top tier.

The pay is reasonable and competitive, the benefits are good. the stock purchase plan is decent, it only kicks in after a year, but that is pretty standard in the industry.

Overall I feel Cervus is a company that is doing its best to be a great place to work and grow in your career.

Typical day for me is a lot of travel.  Serve the Peace Region, have few actual customers in Grande Prairie itself.
Learned a lot on the construction side for procedures, on line research, dealing with clients, completing work orders in detail and ordering proper parts.
Hardest part of the job is having to deal with the disgruntled customers who purchased JCB products only to have the branch close shortly after.  They feel betrayed and angry.

Some co-workers are great but some will abuse their power coz they are friends with the management or because they have been in the company for a long time. If you say no, they will hold it against you. Too much politics and Favoritism. Expected to work all the time but not appreciate what you do. If you ask your teamlead questions, she wouldn’t know the answer or uninterested to help yo. Job security is subpar. If they don’t like you, they will fire you or force you to quit. No teamwork and people will drag you down with rumors and accusations.

This company had and has some of the best brands of equipment to sell and service. Their recent departure from their construction line highlighted their inability to listen to their people (staff and customers) who drive their business. I attended many meetings where there were great ideas and strategies brought forward, yet lacked traction leading to disappointing failure.
