Chamois Car wash

From my personal experience the Chamois Car Wash is well run, very flexible business with very compatible and enjoyable management. Although it is very emphasized that people work as a team to accomplish a clean car and  a satisfied customer, the work is very independent and self motivated because it requires each employee to perform their own job to accomplish the end result as previously stated and this is something i enjoy especially coming from a strong Football background where team play is also emphasized but independent accomplishment of assignment is the key to success. The only problem i have with this business, in my current position, is the inconsistent shifts and hours. Since this business is very influenced by the weather that day, the business requires you to call in before attending your shift to see if you are needed, and during the spring getting your car washed is the last thing on your mind, so work is very limited and I am given too many days off.

While the job can be repetitive, it’s also straightforward and rewarding for people who enjoy physical work, being on their feet, and seeing instant results. You also learn how to care for different vehicles and use specialized tools, which can help if you’re interested in the automotive industry.


This is the McDonalds of the car care industry. Its organizational structure is exactly the same. They strive to deliver cheap consistent product on the backs of the lowest wages possible... Which is actually reasonable for what it is.

You'll find that they're flexible with the scheduling and the work itself is a constant stream of mindless repetitive tasks... But that's if you actually get the opportunity to work that day. Starting out your work schedule doesn't mean anything, it actually reflects the period of time that you are required to call in and beg to work every hour. I'm not even kidding. If it's raining and there are no cars to wash, you will not work.

Anyways, if you're a young person and/or just want to make some more money, this is a job. There is even opportunity for moving up if you aren't good at anything else; but that's only if they like you.

I worked there for about 6 or so months and it was a mess they would constantly cut your hours there before outright cancelling your shift if it wasn’t busy enough I had multiple times where an 8-4 shift originally got cut into a 10-2 shift and that happened multiple times every single week that or it would be straight up cancelled.

Also the working conditions were horrendous during the middle of winter you have to wear this little vest which offers no protection during -30C weather and get whipped by the bone chilling winter winds and I can imagine it’s not much better during the summer when it’s blazing 30+ degree weather.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone working here what you have to deal with is not worth minimum wage.

A day at chamois car wash as an employee included me vacuuming the inside of cars and washing the outside as needed, and assisting customers with their concerns and questions about the wash. I learned how to properly maintain and clean a personal vehicle and what is needed to consider a car clean. The management here is okay, to say the least. Management could be improved due to reliability on shifts and poor communication with the managers and boss. The hardest part of my job was being able to finish cleaning a car as quickly and efficiently as possible due to the fast paced work environment here and the pressure from customers watching you. The most enjoyable part of my day was being able to look at my work and progress and see how well a vehicle has been cleaned.

Provided me with much needed experiance to start my career ahead.
Learned how to greet customers and having a first impression when meeting them. Represented the company well, made costumers feel welcomed. Learned to move quickly and have good teamwork. Learned various new things such as vaccumming cars, pressure washing, and organizing my work area. The hardest part of the job was dealing with angry customers, but I was instructed to do the best I can and give them a good clean car from the inside. The most enjoyable part of the job was actually learning my strengths and weaknesses and how i can work harder to improve my weaknesses. The other most enjoyable part of the job was being around the other emloyees and learning their characteristics and traits.

Depending on the weather outside, it really affected the work place. When it is summer time you get really hot as there is no air conditioning in the workplace. When it was winter, if you work in wipedown at the end of the garage. The cold weather means that when you are working with damp towels and the garage doors are open your hands tend to freeze easily, as I had an experience with frostbite on my hands at work. The benefits you receive are very minimal at a 10% discount and that's it. Work hours are also not guaranteed due to the business on that particular day. Also for maintenance in winter you could be chosen to clean under the track which could take up to 3 extra hours of non-pay. I was also not payed overtime.

Some of the people you work with are pretty cool. Managers are cool, I’ve worked with almost all the managers at all three locations and have enjoyed working with each of them. I also met my two best friends and girlfriend there.

BUT...

Everything else kind of sucks. Work conditions can be pretty bad during the heat or the cold. No air conditioning in the wash during the summer and you can imagine how humid it gets in there. No guaranteed hours if you are not on the management team. Owners are too cheap to pay overtime so you will be sent home when you reach overtime, even if it is super busy. Owners do not care about employees and have zero employee loyalty. Do not work here.

A typical day at work would start off with the "morning huddle".  This is when management talks about daily expectations, etc.

I have learned how to manage people, meet daily expectations and maintain a safe and up-beat work environment.

Management has been very motivating and informative yet have provided necessary challenges to expand my abilities.  

My co-workers have been supportive, up-beat and reliable.

After being employed here for 3.5 years, I don't feel as though there is a "hard part" of my job.

The most enjoyable part of my job is the people I work with.

Typical day at work would include driving cars around the wash, wiping the inside and out of vehicles. Talk to customers, put wipe down towels in washers. I've learned how to wash cars top to bottom spotless, interact with costumers, and also built a good work ethic. Managers and co workers were all awesome no one was rude and unpleasant. Hardest part of the job is working on days when its +35 outside and wiping down cars really fast cause were always busy. My favorite part of the job is discounted car washes and working with great people.
