Union hotel jobs used to offer a comfortable living wage.  Used to.  So as much as I wouldn't recommend working at the Chateau Victoria, I also just wouldn't recommend hotel work in general.

Management will expect you to keep total & exclusive availability to their scheduling needs even though you might only be getting part time hours.  So good luck paying your rent.  
There's really zero chance of promotions and very much an us vs. them mentality between management and staff.  

Again, it's not the worst job in the world and there are worse hotels to work at in Victoria.  But also, you'll be regarded as replaceable regardless of your commitment and duration of employment.  They're 100% committed to not increasing pay to a reasonable standard in the future so don't expect this job to offer you a decent standard of living in Victoria. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The management and all the staff are incredibly lovely to work with, you truly feel like family. You aren't just a number, they really take care of their staff.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not much stress at all..perhaps rude customers would be it!  Or if your under staffed, which is very rare. 

It honestly is a fabulous company to work for. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
As long as you do your work, you can have fun too! 

Very culture oriented. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It feels like I'm going to work with family.

The housekeeping management is accommodating and kind. If you make a mistake they help you fix it and don't put too much pressure on you for being perfect. I have been rewarded for being a good employee with raises and the company does a good job at showing appreciation for their workers as a whole. I am a LGBTQ worker and my bosses do a good job at respecting my pronouns and the Human Resources woman is also amazing and very kind. I quite enjoy working here and can see myself staying with the company for a long period of time.

I’ve been working at the Hotel for more than a year, I have worked in three different different departments. I’m currently working in the front desk and reservations department and I enjoy being part of the team. The reservations, front desk and food and beverage managers are very friendly and helpful. 

The Chateau Victoria felt more like a family than a workplace. Management actually notices the little things and rewards you dutifully. Even the owner actually values his employees! The Chateau should be used as a model for how to treat your employees.

Management has no clue what they were doing.The work environment was extremely toxic.Not a very welcoming place to work at.Never shown appreciation for hard work.Certain staff favoured over others. 

Management was poor and treated employees unfairly and unequally. Management didn’t handle situations properly, very unprofessional. Wage and tips were the only good part of working there. 

Unionized and supportive of hard-working employees. Few consequences for poor employees and a lax management style. Free coffee and occasional staff events.

Toxic work place (the boss knows of this issue too but refuses to do anything ).You are expected to do your work and others but will not receive help especially when new. No appreciation shown.high turn over rate (for a reason)
