While I wont deny the accuracy of the negative reviews, the positives is that there is currently employees there who are determined in making this a better place for future retention. The problem is they aren't in management and therefor do not have much pull in doing so. 

The plant is old yes, there is certainly an air of disgruntlement within the union employees and for anyone new walking in the door it is most certainly a challenge to navigate.

I found most of the operations department to be quite helpful and easy to get along with. The maintenance department however seemed to be more work. Half of them simply treated me like I didn't exist which I can understand due to the high turnover rate it seems they've adapted the "why even bother getting to know the new guy" attitude.

I was approached a lot in my first month asking if I would be sticking around; almost so much that it made me question "is there something I'm not seeing here?". 

Onboarding was disorganized at best, training was almost non-existent, management seems to treat procedural/training based questions as a nuisance. As another review on here states, a lot of the equipment etc you will only see at this plant so showing up with experience is a tough ask. Be ready to have high expectations with minimal support. 

Zero training in your onboarding process, super unprofessional management who has zero people skills or communication for that matter, mixed with disgruntled unionized employees who operated as if they were in highschool with singling out new employees by giving them dirty looks and not including them in any type of conversation nor given any respect as a person what so ever. Teamwork is a non-existent factor and workers come and leave due to managers' lack experience,  and terrible personality. He creates a toxic work environment and unsafe working conditions. You are completely isolated from everyone and given zero support or patience of walking into a facility where many aspects of the job are only seen there, so having any previous experience is almost impossible to find, you need some training and time to learn where materials are in a massive facility.  People are shocked to see many people last more than a few months here and I was told by many it was impossible for them to retain staff…. For the company that pays the best wages on the lower mainland? You have a hard time keeping employees ? Hmmm… I wonder what could be the reasoning for this. 

I worked here as a contracted labourer because the official employers are not labours by default. I would arrive at Syncrude and the Official Employer would pick me up and drive me to the work site. We would be debriefed on our objectives for the day and then we would wear our protective equipment and would go right on site. Basically we the labourers would clean up the ammonium sulfate residue on the site and pile them up for the caterpillar to take them out to waste by the end of the day. Co-Workers would be randomly paired and I had no problem with any of them for we all did our part. Hardest part of the job was the repetition which was always about shoveling and it would be quite a strain on the back but if you were fit and had pre-workout before the work, then it wouldn't be bothersome. But in end you gotta do what you gotta do and we finished all our work on time. But the people you worked for always was the enjoyable part of the job. A simple compliment would make you work a lot better in the end of the day.

Chemtrade Montreal is a plant to recover sulphur in form of H2S of crude oil by diethanolamine(DEA) solvent. H2S is transformed to SO2 and then to sulphur and by- product of sodium bisulphite.

For me as a trainee in the company, team working is delightful; each individual is performing his duty with communication with his co-workers to assure that the sequence and the whole of work is achieved.

A mutual respect has been between the co-workers. If there was a human or a technical fault, the whole team were trying to solve the problem.

The enjoyable part of the work was that, during the work, each individual feels that his role will be rewarded and will led to the aim of the work.Also, the majority of personnels have Golf play activity outside of work place.

The challenging part of the work was that, during each duty the individual was alone to achieve his duty.

Hours were all over the place was put on a different schedule than everyone else and expected to work overtime with no notice couldn't make plans if you reject overtime they get very upset. 
Safety is everything there it takes so long to get anything done. 
Little to no room for advancement. Training is non existent. You will load trucks everyday and learn very little until someone new is hired. Management will not push for you to be trained in new tasks so don't expect to advance. They say they will but they won't. 
Management is extremely disorganized and will make false promises to keep you in the position. 
Workplace culture is very toxic. 
Has decent pay and is unionized for an in city job.

Management has high expectations of you but the company is willing to invest in you if you are committed.  The company is large so for any office position you need to be technically savvy, good at automation, and have good time management skills otherwise you will be constantly overworked. There is constant change inside the company so you need to be flexible and a quick learner. If you are able to keep up with the pace of things there is room for you to grow and you are basically guranteed eventual promotions through their career development systems. The pay is above-average. It's a stressful and soulless job at times but you will be rewarded if you are up to the challenge and stick it out.

The ethics and morals that the company speaks highly of during interviews are not applied in real-time working conditions. Unprofessional management mixed with disgruntled employees create a stale and demotivating working environment. Teamwork is a non-existent factor at this facility. Many workers come and leave due to managers' lack of relevant experience, toxic work environments, and unsafe working conditions. The work is simple, boring and tedious. 

The company has grown a lot over the last few years.  It is great that the company is growing by acquisition.  I think there is a lot of potential here and it will take some time to work through some of the growing pains but I think we can get there.

Overall a great place to work. Fun people to work with, except a few of course. No official provided to learn applications, not a lot of direction provided by managers. They go by doing their work, and expecting you to figure everything out yourself. However Senior management were really approachable. Something I haven't seen anywhere else. 

Direct manager was always in his office, no direction was provided regarding job duties.
