Chick Boss Cake

Co-workers are great, management by owners is lacking. Employees don't get livable wage and your speed is the only factor that gets you considered for a raise. Your dedication, experience and education mean nothing if you aren't making 20+ cakes a day. We are often understaffed and people can get called off or sent home any given day even if you are full time. The "wellness program" is odd because you are required to submit a photo to share on their social media in order to be reimbursed for the activity you choose and it's not very beneficial. Regular health and dental benefits would be more helpful. Not to mention that one of the owners actively speaks about anxiety, depression and stress as if only weak minded people suffer from it and you just need to get over it and do something to make you happy and you'll magically feel better. The owner has also made comments about staff's diet, weight and other health concerns. More than 20 employees have left this place in the past year and a half. Additionally, food handling practices and quality of products are also subpar. Cake layers get thawed and refrozen if not used by the end of the week without dated labels. Cakes for Saturdays often get decorated on a Tuesday and get left out. The friendly co-workers are really the only positive about working at this place. Unfortunately working here is not worth the financial or emotional stress, better off looking elsewhere.

The thing that surprised me the most was how busy this place is. The work environment is very fast pased and can be a bit overwhelming at times, but thankfully management is very helpful and understanding. All my coworkers are very nice people, some of them help me by giving me a ride to and from work so I dont have to take the bus. This job has taught me how to work and manage my stress in a fast pased workplace. Also the benefit they give is really cool they give me an allowance every month that I can use on anything that helps me take care of myself or feel better. They really care about mental health and wellbeing and always give me any days off I need for writing exams or going to appointments on days that I usually have to work. I really like working here. I tell my friends who always complain about there jobs to come work here too. 

I worked at this company during the pandemic in London, and the co-workers there were so immature and whiney. While we were super busy as we were allowed to remain open, they were all super ungrateful about having a job. I tried my best to stay out of it because I think they’re moaning and groaning somehow made them feel better. A few of them were let go because of their performance and attitude and I see they have taken to this outlet to vent, which says a lot about them and not this company. 

After many of them left and the toxicity was out of the building, it became a much better environment. The owners are really kind people and it’s unfortunate that these people didn’t see that. I say this because I have worked many jobs and for many bosses since I was young and understand the difference. Got to love the internet age, where of course a forum like this would be for disgruntled employees to vent even though they got let go lol

I put in a good amount of time working for this company and have never been treated so poorly as an employee. While employed there I was expected to work over 10 hour days, 5 days a week in order to even be considered for a senior position. Management holds multiple meetings insisting how 'lucky' and 'privileged' employees should be to work there; while at the same time not listening to real concerns about the overwhelming work load and expectations from minimum wage workers. Very condescending overall. Terrible food safety practices also, if you order a cake for the weekend it is made on a Tuesday and left out.

The owners here are great. The work is very busy. When I first started here we only did about 100 cakes each week now we easily do 300+  The customers go crazy for our product nobody else does it this good. 

I am happy that I can work independently on my cakes and one of the owners is very calm and supportive, he helps me steadily improve over time. I also like that this job is good work life balance with my kids. They don’t force me to do any days I can’t do. Thank you for this opportunity. 

Top-down leadership is more of a dictatorship with each person having their own views on what they want to be done.
They discriminate against their employees and get away with it. Extremely understaffed!!! Staff are worked to the bone and expect you to do everything to decrease company spending. You are forced to work a two-man job.  Very soul draining - years later I'm still happy to be out.
