Chicopee Ski Club

I am a ski instructor because I love teaching people how fun skiing is, I do not do the job for the money because as it is I only make 10.25. There is no way to get a pay advance unless you spend another $500 on a course to upgrade your license. Lessons are scheduled poorly and there is always mis communication between the front office and snow supervisors. A typical day at work is meeting a new student and developing a lesson play that is fun and safe. The goal is to get people comfortable with their skills and enjoy the sport. I learned that there is no single way to teach the same concept, each students needs are unique and you must be willing to adapt your teaching in order to accommodate. The hardest part of the job is staying warm on very cold days as well as keeping students interesting at times where they are very frustrated. The most enjoyable part of the job is when a beginner moves to a novice or advanced skier, when they develop a sense of confidence and accomplish their goals.

The best thing about working at the Chicopee Ski Club was that there was always something to do and I was never bored at work. The management was very nice and were understanding if I had to take a sick day or if i wanted a couple extra shifts. Another great thing about working there was the fact that i got to meet new people everyday and had a good relationship with most of the clubs members. Overall it was a good job.

A typical day at Chicopee requires being present on snow at 8:15am. Instructors will follow supervisors instructions to set up lesson zones and report to their section of work for the day (ie. school groups, private lessons, walk on lessons). The job is physically challenging, however, employees have the opportunity to communicate with customers throughout their day. This results in strong communication and customer service skills.

A typical day at work started at *am where we would meet with our groups and partners for the day. We learned how to assist young skiers onto the chair lifts and would ensure no one got left behind during the lessons. I found the best part of my job was doing what I loved, snowboarding and being on the hill. I was not a fan of the early mornings but I defiantly enjoyed being done at 3:00pm and having the rest of the day to myself.

For people who are interested in working as a ski or snowboard instructor and have their CASI Level 1 certification. It is a fun job a lot of the time because you just get to snowboard all day and show people how to do it. Hours can be long and since you're working outdoors that can be pretty taxing.

working at chicopee for the winter was very good experience. Everyone in the rental shop always had a positive attitude when they came into work and it's just a super fun place to work

ensure lifts are functioning in a safe manor, assist guests on and off the lifts, as needed.  Constant attention required to ensure safety of guests. Fun environment and Great Management!!

A typical day at work would usually entail getting the lifts ready to run, checking all your stop buttons for safety. Once everything passed its safety check you start to load the public making sure they all have a safe and enjoyable time.

It was a good first job, I learned lots of skills I can use in future jobs at Chicopee. It was a great job for the winter months. Management was flexible and friendly.

I loved working at chicopee! it was an awesome job, it didin't even felt like work, although the rental shop (where I worked) was a bit cold and wet at times it was a great working environment.
