Chilliwack Middle School and the Chilliwack School District are excellent communities to work within. Staff members are amicable, professional and collaborative. The work of a Supervision assistant can be rewarding, and is generally fairly easy, although you may encounter youth that a challenging to work with. But most of these youth come around when treated with respect, consistency, fairness, amicable caring authority. There are youth out there, however, who are deeply troubled, aggressive, oppositional, entitled, disrespectful, manipulative and willing to resort to almost any means to get their way. Staff have to be aware of this potential. A non-collaborative, undermining or toxic work environment  would make facing these challenges much more difficult. Fortunately this is not the case at Chilliwack Middle School. The School spirit is strong, and both youth and staff are respected.  Staff are friendly and flexible where appropriate, but firm as needed.  It’s a pleasure to work there. What brings the greatest joy, is not the praises, but the general interaction with staff and students. You can joke with the kid’s ,  complement them on their projects, behaviour, &c and can make connections. Giving them joy and respect and security brings satisfaction and  fosters a better work climate. School and learning should be enjoyable comfortable experiences for students.

Not supported by Administration to be safe in the work environment. The class sizes are larger than should be. The Students do not have enough support with SLP and OT services. Administration does not support higher education for support staff ie Educational Assistance so students with intense maladaptive behaviours are not succeeding the classrooms.

I was warned about this school district before moving here.  They do not support children with special needs as well as they say they do.  Kids are taken out of classes and put in "resource rooms" when in other districts, they are welcomed to participate with the class.

Lot's of work to do,very dirty at times.
Not enough time to do a complete job,have to rush to Finnish on time.
Sometimes they add extra work with the same amount of hours.
I learned to prioritize my work.
The co-workers were helpful
Being close to home was nice and the pay is good.

Hardest part of the job was to come into a new classroom each day and meet expectations. The best part was the children.  They truly wanted to help me as a new person to their school.

A typical day with the School District involved following direction from the classroom teacher and providing the student(s) with a pleasant and safe learning environment.

Can be an excellent job to be an EA with the school district, but it has lots of downfalls. you cant take vacation outside of school time, and students can be EXTREMELY violent. you dont get benefits unless youre permanent which is hard to get.

The summary says it all, if you are young and like unions you might be able to smoke enough pole to get somewhere. Typical union issues, lazy workers, backstabbing etc. Good luck if you get in. 

Easily accessible using mobile device,  easy to navigate and the website offers a wide variety of job opportunities. It also offers non contract and contract positions. I am very pleased with this website.

There are way too many political and management issues and it causes conflicts with coworkers and teachers. Not a great long term career choice but a great resume builder and experience.
