My time at this organization began on an optimistic note. I worked at this location a few years ago, however, my time at this company was brief. I had several job offers upon my first job search, although I chose this particular position since I was greeted with warmth and joy, and received the sense of a healthy work environment every time I stepped into the store. Once starting my first few shifts I realized this was not the case. There were multiple instances of altercations between managers, one of which concluded with one of them storming out crying never to be seen again. There were very few employees that had been working there for an extended period of time, and I was usually working alongside new employees. My shifts were usually short, around 3-5 hours each. We did make tips, which was definitely a pro. I enjoyed my time with a few of my coworkers, but I noticed that some leads treated clerks quite differently than others, and there was definitely personal bias in how individuals were managed. One week a few months into the job, I noticed I had no future shifts on my scheduling app. I immediately contacted my manager, wondering if there was a technical issue but never received a response. On my next shift, I came in and was greeted by my general manager, whom I had met once or twice, immediately requesting a meeting. I happily agreed and was exterminated on the spot without reason, just a few feet away from the other employees. I had never received any verbal or written warnings, been in trouble, called in sick, or been late to any of my shifts. They told me to leave promptly and not to come back. A friend got hired shortly after me, experienced the same, wasn't scheduled a few months into the employment, and was fired shortly after. Since this, I have had a multitude of jobs in which I've loved and thrived in, although the workplace anxiety that this location left with me at the age of 16 was detrimental in my ability and confidence to work again. Management could have improved since then, although this was my experience at this company. 

It's a good place to work if you enjoy chocolate, but other than that it is horrible. The customers are snooty and treat you like trash (my ex-coworker and I have both been driven to tears from some), the management situation was absolutely horrendous, and people were paid unfairly. It is either extremely busy with lines out the door or extremely dead - no in-betweens. On the outside it looks like such a fun experience, and it was at first, but then you learn how messed up things can get. The management at my location was horrible (the first manager ended up stealing from the company, and the second one was literally never there). People were also paid unfairly, I learned that one of the non-white Assistant Managers was being paid $15 while a new (white) assistant manager who did the same duties had a STARTING RATE of $17. Similar situations went on with Team Leaders and Clerks. As for the customers, no matter where you work you will experience horrible customers, but these ones by far take the cake - I'd say it's far worse than retail. The plus side is that you get free chocolate occasionally and a 40% discount. The menu is really fun especially once new desserts are introduced, and it gets you really passionate. On the surface level it is a great job but once you learn about what happens behind the scenes, it's scary. Also, at the location I worked at, we were all mass-fired TWICE with no warning. The first time was seasonal and we found out the same week it closed with no warning. The second time was permanent and they only gave us a 1-2 week warning (depending on when you were hired). It was horrible.

During a shift, you will complete task such as serving clients, taking care of the boutique and filling it, some cleaning chores, and making items for the boutique or for the ice cream side. 
I believe that this workplace taught me an other side of the food industry. 
The management is very poor, the owners of my store are useless. They are never there, only time they come is to complain. They are not competent with any social skills, they are rude, dry and mean with the clients. They don’t care about our education, they will schedule us during school hours which comprises our education. There is non negotiation available on their side, the hours are poorly distributed equally. The shift superviser will sit in the office and play on their phone while the employees are doing tasks and chores in the store. I hope that the management is different in other stores…

What is the best part of working at the company?
Such a positive work environment! Great managers, coworkers, and community. Leadership is super respectful and conscious of staff needs. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Summer days can get pretty busy and somewhat stressful when the line is out the door and the store is crowded. But overall, these are some of the best days as well. Always prefer a busy shift over a slow one :)

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
One of the best work environments I've experienced. Great leadership style that is respectful of and welcoming to all staff. I have always felt comfortable voicing any concerns or questions I have without judgement from my coworkers or managers. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very versatile... I could spend the majority of my shift doing prep work, cleaning, serving customers, on tills, or in the back doing organizational tasks.

The staff is amazing and everyone is very easy to get along with. In the beginning I knew absolutely no one but I’ve been working here for over a year now and I’ve made some really great friends. The job itself can be frustrating in the summer time as the line will be out the door and orders will cover the entire screen but we work as a team and it makes it worth it. As for hours.... this is the only downside since in the winter YOURE lucky to get one or two real shifts a week. Otherwise you’ll get a lot of on calls which is extremely annoying so I’d suggest taking this job as a second job. In the summer however you can get a lot of hours if you pick up other people’s shifts. It’s a treat first job and honestly I don’t want to quit because I’d be comparing every other job to this one, I absolutely adore this place!

This was my first job, working in the Ajax ON location that has since been shut down. My duties as a part-time employee were maintaining cleanliness of the store, (mopping, cleaning tables, cleaning bathrooms, sanitizing all surfaces etc.) preparing and serving the food, prepping food, working as cashier and much more. Working here is easily so physically draining as it pretty much requires all of you, not to mention long hours on your feet. We also had to wear bandanas 24/7 which sometimes gave me a headache by the end of my shift. Looking back, I definitely did not get paid enough for the amount of effort and work I put in. I loved my coworkers though

You had to deal with a lot of very rude customers and if you had the in with your coworkers it was a great place to work but if you didn’t they would make you do all the horrible tasks and leave the easy one’s to themselves and talk behind peoples backs ALL THE TIME. They would often make you go do tasks during the day and help every customer that comes with not help from them, while they talked in the back.
Management would only give shifts to people they liked not because they were good workers just that they like them. 
The actual store manager was almost never in the store. 
During the summer tips were good, you would get at least 100 dollars a week if you worked about 25hours. They were lower during the winter because we weren’t as busy.

I worked there from the age of 15 to 20, and I definitely think it's one of the best jobs for students out there. Managers are flexible and accommodating (at least at my branch, in Aurora, ON), the work itself is enjoyable, you always work with another person, which is nice too. The customers are generally pleasant and in a good mood (of course, they are getting ice cream).

Everything about the store is great and magical, from the wonderful and supporting manager team to chocolate-loving customers! But like any other customer service place, you will get some grumpy and rude customers from time to time, but that is the only downside of this job which is easily negligible due to the support you will have.
