Production was ramping up for the theatrical release of Avatar, one of the first major 3D pictures. Chrisie was racing to market with it's 3D capable projectors.

This lead to very long days with a lot of pressure.
The majority of my time was spent in sub assemblies, assembling parts to be used on the line. It was very repetitive and mind numbingly boring.

I was hired as a temporary employee, I was not part of the union, although I did pay union dues. There was little room for advancement, since at the time all I had was a college diploma. The wage cap prevented me from pursuing a career there.

For the most part there was good comradery with co-workers, although if you held up the line you would be punished. The bonuses were set up in such a way that management didn't need to punish the slow workers, since everyone on the line would do it for them. I didn't like this aspect of working at Christie Digital. 

That said, when things went well, life was good. We had several events, such as screenings of 3D movies, BBQs and so on. 

Also we had fairly unhindered access to information at work about the projectors. I learned a fair bit about optics while working at Christie Digital.

There was a lot of overtime, which was essentially mandatory, but I appreciated it to be honest.

o	Key role in various optical system development teams
o	Designed multiple optical systems for laser beam delivery and speckle mitigation
o	Built optical system prototypes for simulation, data collection and analysis
o	Utilized commercial ray-tracing software (Zemax, OSLO) for optical design and tolerance analysis
o	Designed various Opto-mechanical components in Solid Works
o	Expert in designing optical imaging systems, laser-based illumination, laser beam shaping, aspheric & diffractive optics and micro-lens arrays
o	Experienced in handling precision optics and alignment of optical systems
o	Integral member of the system engineering team on production and R&D 
o	Coordinated with other engineering teams during fabrication and testing of prototype systems and modified design as required
o	Identified emerging technologies for various electro-optical imaging systems
o	Lead and participated in various crisis resolution and lessons learned activities

Christie provided me the opportunity to work on numerous projects where I was able to showcase my knowledge, experience and range of marketing ideas. They allowed me to be a successful risk-taker and use unique ways to determine what the target market needs and fine-tuning marketing segments accordingly.  
Christie also allowed me to bring a unique combination of technical knowledge coupled with a deep understanding of the role of marketing in contributing to organizational growth.

Overall it was a great place to work until the layered management policy was adopted.  They hired way too many managers and not enough essential labour.  

Most engineers are smart, friendly and willing to help.  

HR is mostly ineffective

It's a country club for poor functional managers.  Validation department needs some serious leadership help.  

Flex time was great, relaxed summer hours were also a bonus.  Speaking of  bonus, it disappeared, even though company was enjoying growth.

Newer employee, enjoying my time here thus far. Management and Executives are learning lessons from the past to increase business and benefits and regrow. 

Enjoying being included in projects and the work itself is fulfilling. It's a 90 year old company so management can be slower to change but are open to listening. 

Parent company is smart as well, good to have higher ups that want to see us grow. Great culture and making a better culture every day. 

Good product and great international product developer 
 and process exposure. 

Very hard to grow and make your point. 

Mid Managment are reachable and understanding, but dont help and back up. Hiring more co-ops means co-op do the work and  senior/mid-managers can take the credit. Hard truth. 

Daily tasks not clearing outlined or supported by mid-level management because mid-level doesn't know how it's done at ground level.  Torn between co-workers and superiors.  Stuck in neutral between old-school and new-school decision making.  Hurry up and wait.  Going nowhere fast.

You can definitely learn a lot of new things, especially with regards to manufacturing methods and optical systems. A select few managers are difficult to work with due to their lack of people skills, but other than that most are pretty average. Company is going through major changes so job security is medium.

Depending where you work you might be OK. I worked 30 weekends of OT in my last year there because management wouldn't hire any extra staff. Got let go  because of burn out and backstabbing environment that I reacted to.
