Cinemas Guzzo

Having worked at Guzzo for over 2 years, the quality varies. As an usher, you basically just clean halls, rip tickets and take out the trash. Girls are behind the candy counter and at the front cash. So right there, the jobs are segregated by gender. You never get a raise unless promoted, and even when I was promoted, I had to hound head office for a month to get a dollar above minimum wage. The job itself is very relaxed, especially if the staff you have is fun. Mine started out that way, but as the years went, they started hiring younger and less mature people because head office wanted to keep employees as long as possible. The only benefit is free movies, which I gladly used and abused more than any employee I had met. You don't even get free (or even discounted) concessions. Overall, the head office clearly doesn't care about the workers at all. They even skipped over my first pay check! I had to wait another 2 weeks to get everything I earned. Now it looks like they're starting to clean things up, but only after so many complaints have forced some sort of change.

On a normal day at the theater, I found myself running around and trying to keep busy; the flow of customers varied by day and so there were some days where there was nonstop traffic and other days that were quite slow and tedious. Keeping busy was essentially the motto by which we worked. I learned a great deal in my time at the cinema  - I developed a good core for customer service and learned the value of what one customer can have; I have developed my skill in communicating with people and discovering their needs and how better to serve them. Management was not always stable, there was a lot of changes made to the higher positions every few months. The hardest part of the job was accepting that there were not many advantages to working there and that there were never many options pertaining to fully helping customers. However, the best part of the job was the action one would face day-by-day, especially on busier days where the action did not stop.

Stayed for a couple of years due to my coworkers who made it worthwhile until I couldn't handle being in a negative work environment. There is very little support given to workers who are expected to perform more than what they are being paid for. Workers are also expected to work with a disgusting work environment with very little help. 

Head management - little to no contact with them. They come to place ridiculous management decisions that make no sense and do not appreciate their employees' work.

Equipment and such provided are in terrible condition.

Job advancement unfairly given - colleagues who had several warnings were promoted or were promoted because of favoritism. 

The only positive side to this job was having a fun team to work with (at least while I was there) and the fact that it was easy to balance working with school.

I started working at cinemas guzzo at a young age and it was my first job. It was a great job to have while in school because the hours were somewhat flexible and it was part time. 

As i grew older i needed something that had more stable hours and a better pay. I decided to find something else that would cater more to my needs and ambitions.

I trained a lot of people and had  a lot of responsibilities while i worked there. I met a lot of people i will never forget and made friendships i still maintain to this day.

The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing my coworkers. The typical day at work consisted of long hours and were sometimes too demanding. Sometimes we would not receive breaks. Some days consisted of long double shifts of about 10-12 hours and closing shifts would end at 3AM. I used to work 6-7 days a week during the summer and management would not be understanding with not sending me to another location.

Hours can be horrible especially if you want to have a social life on the weekends assistant managers are cool however head managers are rude and mever soeak to you directly. Owners come once in a while to check workplace and get angry at enployees for no reason.

A day in the shoes of an usher was not horrible.  You get to work, you start by cleaning the whole place, you wait for the movies to finish and you have to Clean them quick because there is only 15 min before the next showing starts.  On a Saturday night, its super stressful. Staff was nice and management isn't great.  Pay was minimum wage.

Based on whichever Guzzo you have been hired, all of them have their own culture and you get along with the workers which is the only thing that keeps you sane. The management is unfair and has lots of favouritism.

Chill job as a student. Flexible hours + free movies. Managers were nice and understanding. Co-workers made the job a lot more enjoyable. Place got a little crazy when new movies were released.

Firstly working at Cinema Guzzo is a good experience if your in high school because the hours that they give you coordinates with your school schedule. It is a good environment to work at because the people are very friendly
