I recently worked at Circle K, and let me tell you, it was an absolute nightmare. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I could feel the toxicity oozing from every corner of the workplace. Here's why you should steer clear of this company:

Poor Management: The management at Circle K is beyond incompetent. They play favorites, micromanage every aspect of your work, and offer zero support when you need it. Instead of fostering a positive environment, they thrive on creating tension and conflict among employees.

Unsafe Conditions: Circle K neglects basic safety protocols. I witnessed numerous instances where employees were forced to work in hazardous conditions without proper training or equipment. Management's blatant disregard for employee well-being is appalling.

No Work-Life Balance: Working at Circle K means surrendering your personal life. The scheduling is erratic, with little consideration for employees' availability or well-being. They expect you to be on call 24/7, making it impossible to maintain any semblance of work-life balance.

Hostile Atmosphere: The atmosphere at Circle K is toxic and unwelcoming. Cliques and gossip run rampant, making it difficult to feel included or respected as an employee. Instead of fostering teamwork, the environment breeds animosity and distrust.

Lack of Training and Support: Don't expect any meaningful training or support from management. You're basically thrown into the deep end and expected to figure things out on your own. It's sink or swim, with no life preserver in sight.

Minimal Pay and Benefits: To add insult to injury, the pay and benefits at Circle K are abysmal. You're expected to work long hours for peanuts, with little hope of advancement or recognition for your hard work.

In conclusion, working at Circle K is a soul-sucking experience that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for employment. Circle K's toxic work environment is not worth the paycheck, no matter how desperate you may be.

After some years working for ck, it all just went downhill. Manager and team are awesome, above that is like talking to a wall. Ck doesn't care about wages or hours.  (Out of managers hands).
They like to add more to the workload without considering it takes more time and effort for the people on site to do. The staff are getting burnt out and drained. No appreciation from company. Also, be prepared to work alone for 4 hours. You get stuck on cash a lot so many things that need to get done, just wont get done. Then you get questioned why it didn't get done. Even with many people sacrificing their breaks in order to try to get caught up. You probably will have to stay past shift too. You could work there for years proving yourself before you even get less than a dollar raise. Job is mentally and physically demanding. This company needs to get better wages out there, show some appreciation, give more hours, hire more people in order for this to work. Ck is about teamwork. Shouldn't it be applied to the company as whole? Without the people downstairs, they wouldnt be up top. The people upstairs should be listening and considering what the people working frontline are saying. But to the people up in office, they just care about money in their pockets. So no, I do not recommend working for this company at all. 1/10.

I have worked at Circle K for about 2 years total now, and it isn't bad. If you're looking for a part time job that is extremely easy, this is the one for you.

I, however, am in need of full time hours, and that is something this company can't provide. There is also no medical plan for regular staff, and you can't touch your vacation pay until May 1st of each year, because you have to wait for their fiscal year to end. NOT a good combination.

Either Irving or Circle K's upper management puts a cap on the number of hours the manager can assign any given week, and they're reprimanded if they go over. This results in a huge fight for the few hours that are available.

There is no chance of advancement, and you'll never be told by a district or regional manager that you're doing a good job. I have a great store manager, and she lets you know when you do something well, but despite that her hands are tied as far as giving good workers extra hours. 

If you're looking for something part time, or you want to work in an environment where you can do (literally) nothing, apply and enjoy! Great place to work if you're trying to finish a book or listen to the radio, just don't go into it expecting to move up the ladder or have a consistent income.

STAY FAR FAR AWAY. 
No breaks at all for 8+ hour shifts. Often work ALONE. Managers will reprimand you if you can't pick up extra shifts, and guilt you when you can't take them, even if you're literally in class. 
"Well I'll have to find a sitter for the kids i guess... and come in on my day off"- like, what? 

Would not allow me to SIT DOWN when no customers are in store (there are often dead periods throughout the day) as I have been recently diagnosed with a disability (after I started working there)... manager forced me to stock heavy items to see if I "truly have a disability"... No accomodations attempted for me at all, no matter how many forms and requests I filled out. 
No way to contact upper management, must report to store manager and that's it. 

Applied for a transfer as I moved, new manager was happy to have me, until my current manager called them and told them to decline my transfer. Love the 1.5 hour bus comute!

Only positives are the regulars and other pleasant customers, as well as other cashier employees. Everything else is TOXIC.

Considering gas stations are under scruitiny right now by the board of labour, you would think they attempt to take care of their employees, but nope. 
Overall horrible place to work, even for university students and other at will workers.

The market managers are not watched over and do not see what is wrong with stores, and they only promote those whom do not work and choose to delegate instead of work.  Hard workers are not noticed or praised.  Employees that do nothing are given excuses by the market manger of why they are lazy, meanwhile the MM yells at the hard workers to do better.  Even worse the MM is famous for dangling promotion in the hard workers face to get them to do more for her, yet does not promote them (I personally watched this with SEVERAL employees.  The pay of possible 51000. a year is a down right lie---no managers make that much and are on call 24/7 and have no personal lives, if not employees calling it is the MM on your days off.  The corporate office is so blind it does not see that a MM is the issue even after several managers demote themselves, and she demoted several as well.  They don't look at the WHY of this happening.   Note:  I know of NO happy manager in this company, all want other jobs.  They also do not provide enough of an hours budget to keep stores as they want, therefore almost every manager works off the clock for free to avoid being in trouble for messy stores or getting in trouble for working over the 50 hrs a week allowed..

A typical work day was working with the community and serving them kindly and politely while working with the team. However at the place of work I was at there was a lot of drama between staff that need not be. Management did little to nothing to curb this, and I would say they actively contributed to it themselves. Rumours were spread about me that were hurtful and false accusations about things that weren’t very nice. Given I’m from a smaller town these words spread and even hurt my reputation. I did not feel valued by management or respected by many of my fellow coworkers which made the work environment very miserable. If I was able to just go and work as the hard worker I am. Was valued, and did not have to deal with such accusations I would’ve enjoyed my position a lot more. Also the circle k was in a location that made it a little scary and unsafe to work at at times. I’ve taken the time to write this simply because things in specific stores like this need to be addressed and should not happen. It’s horrid on the mental health of your employees.

 Working at Circle K has been a very positive experience for me. It is a great place to work, especially for someone looking to gain customer service and teamwork skills. The work environment is friendly, and the staff members are supportive and easy to work with. My coworkers are always willing to help when needed, which makes the job less stressful and more enjoyable.

One of the things I like most about working at Circle K is interacting with customers every day. It has helped me improve my communication skills and taught me how to handle different situations in a professional manner. I have also learned how to work quickly and efficiently during busy hours while still providing good service.

The management team is organized and does a good job of explaining tasks and expectations. The schedule is usually flexible, which is helpful for balancing work with school and other responsibilities.

Overall, working at Circle K has helped me build confidence, responsibility, and valuable work experience. It is a fast-paced environment, but it is also a rewarding place to work. I would recommend Circle K as a good workplace for anyone looking to develop important job skills and gain experience.


A typical day at work is all about communication, selling items to the customers, sometimes helping them choose which one is the best or cheapest cigarettes, advertising any sales or deals.
What I've learnt about is to never trust a customer like a true friend.. keeping things professionally in a workplace is recommended, I've spent my own money to help customers who are short in change, they always say that they'll pay me back but they never do or try to pull up a scam/fraud.
Managing the workplace is keeping things clean, people make a lot of mess and it is my job to keep things clean. Cash handling, making sure no more than $100 bills in the till. Always ask for ID for those who look under 40 years old when buying lottery tickets or cigarettes, even if you know the customer well, always ask for ID.
The hardest part of the job is to make sure customers aren't stealing, or dealing with customer's anger.
The most enjoyable part of the job is communicating and seeing customers win a big prize, I've wished someone a very good luck because he seemed very nice and once the instant poker lottery started folding, he received almost $12,000 and seeing him really happy and excited made my day.

This place was pretty good to work. In the morning, you would have to go in and count lottery, tills, cigarettes, juices, pop, etc. Turn on pumps and rigger machines, lottery machines. Through out the day, you just need to keep the bathroom cleaned, sweep the floors once in a while, mop up spills and keep counter tops clean of coffee and slush spills. Wash down windows, just keep things clean. Keep tills balanced. ID people coming in for tobacco products. Closing up is just making sure pumps are closed down, sweep, mop, garbage, close down rigger, lottery, debit machines. Count cigarettes. Lock up. Management wasn't too bad. I mean, the assistant manager at the time was much easier to deal with then the manager. But things always stayed on track. The people who came and went were always good to work with. But then again, being a people person helps in every job. The hardest part of the job, just like everyone, is the rude customers who cant be patient with say a new employee, or someone who can't quite get that lottery machine yet. And also working alone at night. The best part was always the regular customers. That seriously was my favorite part.
