Citizenship and Immigration Canada

It's interesting how we start a career with a company and three years later we find ourselves integrated and part of it as if it was your family. That was my experience with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. I've grown so much in experience and gained a lot of knowledge. 
At first, I was that kid that was just too eager to work without paying attention to the smallest details that can affect my job.
After many feedbacks from management and hard-working days, I've become a man that pushes himself to constantly improve and add more values to my working capabilities. I created many tactics and procedures at Citizenship and Immigration Canada and was well known in my federal sector for having an amazing personality as well as being very efficient. I was always the top processor and case analyst. My strategies were recognized by my own Director as well as other Canadian federal partners. 
Part of my job was to deliver a sensitive service to Temporary Residents coming to Canada to work, study or simply visit. Other cases were more difficult because I had to deal with Immigration related cases. Management has always pushed my team and I to give it our best by showing quatity as well as quality. With my ways, I've surpassed management's requirements and was promoted to join the management circle.
Another change I implemented was the creation of a reporting tool that is now being used by my department as well as other departments across Canada. This reporting tool required a lot of project coordination such as creating questionnaires, meeting with coworkers for input, working in teams, creating project plans and reports to upper management, getting approval to initiate and implement. The project consisted of hiring computer skilled individuals for programming and creating the actual tool. I had to make sure that the tool communicates with our databases. I was glad to be part of this project as it brought a great achievement to my personal experience but also to my department.
The hardest part of my job is the communication and knowing the hierarchy. Information was circulating a lot during and in between projects, I had to make sure I do not send sensitive and protected information to individuals that are not concerned. One time, I sent an email that contained secret information to the wrong individual but luckily I intercepted it before he could read it.
As for the most enjoyable part of my job is the great interaction and networking with different indivduals across Canada. For instance, I've become great friends with a federal worker in another province in which we hope to see each other one day.
Lastly, I always look forward to another opportunity in my organization or anywhere else in the world. I look forward to developing different things and ways that can help an organization grow. Most importantly, any organization I work with, I consider it my family and make it my responsibility and duty to protect its reputation.

I performed several different tasks during my casual terms and they include:  Data Entry, Data Processing, Quality Auditing and Mentoring work performed by new employees, Photo Scanning and Uploading to application files, Checking applications received for completeness in order for them to be processed in a timely manner,

This was a very fast paced, production oriented work environment where the employees were expected to achieve pre-determined production goals every shift. 

The opportunity provided me with much needed work skills in an office, administrative work environment that I will be able to use and build on for many years.

A typical day was fast paced, satisfying, educational, interesting and required continued concentration of tasks while still maintaining a happy environment where staff worked as a team helping others when needed.  Management was supportive and always alert to the needs of staff and insured the staff were given further education to aid in policies and procedures of the organization. Opportunities for advancement were also available on occasion. 
The hardest part of the job was the continued striving for the increasing of stats.
I enjoyed the job and the environment.  It was a friendly and supportive place to work.

This job has been so far one of my best experiences in life and I would recommend it to anyone, even people who don't see themselves working on a desk. I have learned more than I expected and earned even more. I discovered things about myself that I didn't think I wanted or had interest in. I also discovered abilities I didn't know I had and enjoyed my job. The management team was great and they all make you feel welcomed and part of the team. Despite the fact that I was the youngest of my team, they often asked me questions about the job as if I had been working there for more than a year. I really enjoyed working for Service Canada.

In my past experienced I have lots of support from my colleagues and my team leader. I learned a lot of things and as everyone helps and support each other it has a very positive environment everyone tasks make easier and fun. People bringing treats for everyone. We celebrate birthdays orders food from outside and often share jokes to make our shifts easier for the night. It was fun really fun and we enjoyed the treats someone brought which nit only few brought treats mostly everyone did. I had a really fun enjoyable experienced. 

Review all applicant applications for Canadian residency, made sure every mandatory document was there and authentic.  Entered all client info to database, and added all participants on file to system.  Trained in four different lines of business. I've learned a lot about different cultures, the schooling, how to tell if certain documents are authentic or not, the list goes on.  I really enjoyed working closely with all of my co-workers and management. The reviewing people from all different cultures and the great positive atmosphere is what I loved most about the job.  To be honest, the hardest part was probably the late night commute home during the winter months.

This was a full time job with The Government of Canada and as one might expect is was very much a government job. It involved the daily checking of emails, restocking of the printer and coffee breaks. However, this job featured a unique work environment of closely linked colleagues with high spirits who helped the work day pass along faster. With friendly and knowledgeable management this job ran as smoothly as possible despite the government's flawed system of visa applications. It allowed wonderful opportunities to expand basic knowledge and taught many applicable skills like database work, facial recognition and the important of details.

I worked for Ircc for 35 plus years. saw major changes over the years some good and some bad. Management was hit and miss. If you were productive they basically left you alone. Training was also inconsistent and they expected that older employees should pick up things as fast as young ones. the job is murder on your body sitting infront of a computer all day long. At the end of the day I have no regrets. I had no idea that a student summer job would last over 35 years. Ircc have many dedicated employees along with some deadwood liabilities. I'm grateful that I could retire at 55 on a full pension as I was grandfathered in old rules.

I worked here under contract position, and although they couldn't extend contract, I was informed they would keep me if they could.  I hope to get a contract position again in upcoming competition.  

a typical day was helping file previous day files, opening and distributing mail, pulling files for Immigration Officers, transferring files to other offices, outgoing mail, emails and other clerical work related to citizenship work.

Management was very friendly as I worked in a government office that was closed for government cutbacks.

Hardest part of job was knowing contract was ending and looking for other job positions.
