This job provided a positive atmosphere with the added bonus of working outdoors. I learned how to operate certain machines as well as adapt to different tasks. I loved my co-workers as they were all very friendly and helpful. The hardest part of the job would be the physical aspect of moving around a lot in the outdoors, but that was overcome by having lots of water on hand and taking breaks when needed. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with my co-workers. I gained friends from my co-workers and as a summer student, I would 100% go and work at this job again.

A typical evening of work would go as follows:

A) Arrive early to set up the rink arena for public use - hang the 'rules' sign, arrange pylons, bring out skating aids for new skaters from the back rooms, and ensure no skaters proceed onto the ice until the Zamboni has completed its rounds.

B) Patrol the rink to make sure the safety rules are being followed for the remainder of the evening.

C) At the end of the event, duties consist of closing down the rink, putting equipment away and submitting a report.

The pay was above average but that would have been the only perk. Don't expect to be treated like a person here. They have a policy where if you take more than the average number of sick days, you get put through demeaning interviews, intense personal questioning and threats of termination. This happened to me after I suffered two miscarriages and it added pure insult to the loss of my children. Leaving was the best decision I ever made.

Great coworker. Supervisor had no enforcement experience at all.  Supervisor is a micromanager.  If you did your job you were questioned and ridiculed. All the experience i had was constantly questioned by Supervisor.  

The City of Yorkton is a good employer. A strong compensation package, as well as a history of letting employees find the perfect balance between work and life combine to make this the perfect place to find a long term career.

Okay job, very repetitive and sometimes hard to find something productive to do. Learned lots about the production process of allocating potable h20 to the city as well as the waste side of it at the waste water pollution plant

Well if your the foreman's kid, your set! And if your the foreman's kids friend your also set. Regardless of inability. Like most unionized places, everyone likes to step on everyone else

Working at the pool was fine. I really enjoyed the staff while I was there but later there was a new pool manager and things changed a bit. But still enjoyed my time there

Working at the COY was a great opportunity. Lots of ability to express creativity and make lasting friendships. Management was helpful but allowed a lot of self led activity.
