They are in a transition period and management is overwhelmed and has no idea what they are doing. Hiring for a new division but giving absolutely no one training. Promising growth in the field, but literally only teach you about showings. Very stagnant, promised a lot when entering the job only to see none of that surface after a year. I joined with the promise of growth, and after a month or two you could tell this company had no idea what they were doing themselves. There is a reason they are rated as one of the worst home builders in Ottawa, and their rental units compare to the quality of their builds. 

Also, they will lowball on your salary package, and say that you can take an hour lunch (which is unpaid) but whenever you do you get in trouble. NO communication between management, overall just a very poor experience with Claridge Homes. If you have 2 managers make sure to tell both exactly what you are doing because one will not communicate to the other. 

Human Resources is a gentleman who thrives on his position of power and abuses this. Human Resources is supposed to be able to talk with employees, but their human resources manager is a complete waste of time. Walking around the offices, taking tabs on who is in the office and who isn't. Very clique like atmosphere at the office, everyone is always talking behind each others backs. Some co workers were absolutely terrific, but that isn't enough to keep you at an under-paying job.



Working for Claridge homes as a handyman was like being part of a large and powerful machine where critical parts were installed wrong. The sad truth is it's become understood within the industry that if you want to work in track housing, you are eventually going to work underneath someone who is less competent than you are. Also that it is more important to get the house closed regardless of quality. Claridge homes is no exception. I was constantly encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and take on responsibilities that were above my pay grade. However, when it came time to ask for promotion or a raise they would never acknowledge this. What was also disappointing is that there was no employee evaluation whatsoever. So many employees became frustrated (myself included ) because they didn't know how to improve and succeed. There was definitely not much investment in their employees other than a tool allowance and standard group benefits package. We always felt like we were just a number and that if we didn't like it then too bad. Like I said, Claridge homes is a result of the industry and what I've heard is that other companies in Ottawa are just as bad. My takeaway? If you want to build houses, go work in the trades, not the company that hires them.

If you’re looking for a short term job, this is the job for you as you will be let go just before your probation Period ends.
This company is known for hiring lots of people to try and get work done and then get rid of them before the probation. Period is up.
They let so many people go without cause
Terrible place to work. The management has no idea what they’re doing
And construction builds such a terrible house. All they do is say just leave it to service. The service department will take care of
And then, when the service department gets to your house, nothings warranty
So you have to deal with unhappy homeowners who regret buying a house from this builder
This was the worst job I have ever had and I don’t recommend anybody to work for this company ever
They continue to build terrible homes they don’t care about their homeowners or their employees
There’s always lots of work for the service department because the construction department does such a terrible job building a house that you’re always busy the service and will never get caught up because they don’t warrantee anything anyways the products to use our inferior to any other builder

Believe the negative reviews. They're all true. 

If you're considering leaving your current job to go to Claridge - don't do it. There are better jobs and much better companies out there. Up your search game.

If you don't have a job, then working for Claridge is an option - if you're desperate. You might gain some work experience at the very least. But keep searching for something better. 

First and foremost, they are incredibly cheap.
They will pay you as little as possible, aka NOT a liveable wage. $35k is not a 2019 salary. 

The workload is HUGE and neverending. 

They are very disorganized & unprofessional. 

Their heath benefits are basic and costly.

There are ZERO perks to the job. 

HR lied aka omitted the truth about the true scope of the job and the true state of disarray of the dept. during the interview process to get me in the door and then shrugged their shoulders when I resigned. They do not care. Had I known, I never would have left my other job. 

Their software systems are garbage. Frustrating to use due to poor execution. Zero investment. They have inexperienced staff set it up to save money. 

There is one, single, I.T. guy for all employees. One. And not a terribly competent one.

The ownership has ZERO interest in their employees. You. Are. A. Number. You are below them. 

There is zero loyalty. Zero. 

Keep looking. Good luck.

Terrible management all around. Continously adding duties and no pay increase.
Management gets fired or quit every 3-6month and you gotta restart "proving yourself"

For from family oriented, very far from professional or courteous, favoritism to those who will shut up and do what they aren't paid to do.

Look,for real.. this is the worst place I've ever worked. Alot of good people waste their time coming here and leave before probation is done because of all the nonsense.

Oh and expect to work when you're off and be on call for 10+ properties... no overtime pay either and the expectation to spend you're already earned pay on ubers, taxis and wait 3weeks to 5 months reimbursement.

KM coverage is below avg at 45 cents a KM.. so you spend 40$ in gas and get 8$ back lol


my short time working here was a nightmare, there is a reason why such a big builder never receives awards on best companies to work for, the working culture here is horrible, you get hired on, and promises are made, and they turn out to be all lip service, there is next to no training, and upper management is just full of snakes and backstabbers, that will do there best to take you down, to advance their own positions, you cannot trust anyone, you will have no friends, you will be constantly stressing about losing your job not on your job quality, but simply cause somebody doesn't like you or you're face, during my short time here things only got worse, and with new upper management hires are clueless and do not know their jobs, nobody in management will listen to your concern or even answer messages you send them

They straight up laid me off because  they didn't have enough room for me on a new site and after working  on for 4 months that new site . No job security or any wage growth  and hours a strictly based how happy you are toward boss if you looking for a construction job join the unionized company don't waste your time with the company the can't even pay you enough to rent from them

The community stinks whether it's between people ignoring you  and treating you like a complete nobody after two years I still got little spreads of respect  and made one to two friends out of the 25 plus people I worked and communicated with not to mention the missing hours I must have lost close to a week in time because of poor communication between you super and the person doing the checks 

Worked there for years. I worked hard, advanced through the ranks, showed my potential day in and day out. 
Promised certain benefits that never came. Over the course of 14 months, inquired about said benefits a total of three times, and on the last timr, my position was magically "no longer required." 

I am not the first or the last that this has happened to. Many people I know that have worked for this company have had similar experiences. 

They will work you to the bone, and the moment you want to be compensated for it, they will toss you to find someone who they can exploit at a cheaper salary.

The most stressful part of working for Claridge Homes is working with or under their current management team in Low-rise construction with all of their politics and personal agenda's.

Not a great work environment, due to poor management and lack of employee support

Most days are to include an overbearing workload, low pay and stressful environment

As a former architect student, I learned a significant amount of knowledge of construction. I met special people and have fond memories of the experience.

People used the f word frequently and vaped the most foul substance. Also aways on the phone .
