What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The office is a very toxic work environment, they do not follow proper protocol all the time. There's a major lack of communication amongst staff, only certain staff have to adhere to certain time restrictions and rules where as others do not.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They say its a family but then treat you like garbage after working with them for a little while.  They take clients away from providers for no apparent reason and are cutting providers hours.  The office environment is extremely toxic and there's definitely favoritism happening with certain employees.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Answering client phone calls
Posting any open visits available for the day first thing in the morning and calling those clients to let them know.  Posting open visits for the next day.  
Cancellations of visits, rescheduling visits, mastering new clients in, handling NSNF's, reporting any issues that providers bring forth about clients to supervisors and care coordinator, filing client paperwork, scanning and uploading any client paperwork necessary, putting clients on hold/taking off hold where necessary, discharging clients thats are no longer with the company, and so much more.

TOXIC WORK ENVIRONMENT!! Management is up in the clouds. Will put all the responsibility of picking up clients on you even though they do not provide the proper technology to access said shifts and have scheduling coordinators who do not do their jobs. Will lie through their teeth and make empty promises. NO SUPPORT AT ALL ON WEEKENDS or EVENINGS EVEN FOR EMERGENCIES. Training is uneducated PSW attempting to train on their preferences not the company policies or even the provincial policies. Expect to be a work horse with little to no benefits and horrible hours. Co-workers are no better than management, another highschool environment with gossip and drama other workers will discuss with clients. Every person is quick to bash other’s potential especially with new hires. There is zero teamwork and zero accountability. 
To make this company even more of a run while you can as if what I’ve shared isn’t enough…this company will make getting paid a nightmare. There is no organization around pay roll and it’s one big headache.
Lastly as the cherry on top this company will more than likely terminate you days before your 3 months without cause even though they are “short staffed” and “unable to provide” services, unless you people please and are a yes man. 

If you like volunteer work and dealing with grown women and men who act like they’re 13 this might be the right job for you.
Goodluck  if you chose this career path but PLEASE save yourself and do NOT work for closing the gap.

No work/life balance; mandatory every other weekends of work, generally split shifts so you are in and out all day, makes the days very long. Lots of time off requests get declined. Clients are scattered throughout the city, schedulers are always grumpy. They do not try grouping client areas together so you could be driving back and forth across the city numerous times per day. Supervisors decide whether your sick days are paid or not. If you have an issue with a client care and request not to go back, you have to fight to have that approved. Mangement would rather wait until you get injured than have to switch out the PSW. 
You aren't paid to do call aheads in the evening prior to seeing clients. Only receive schedules the night prior approx. 6pm so there is so consistency for clients or PSW's. 
Hours are never consistent. No pay for last minute client cancellations. CEO is so out of touch but as long as the higher ups are paid well, the front line employees don't matter.
PSWs are expected to be housekeepers for clients, even though its not in our scope of practice. 
Benefits are good but no RRSP contribution or pension plan for PSWs.
Expect to work all holidays, company unwilling to close Christmas day to give their PSWs time with family. Not ideal for long term.

Each workday was unique. This included which city I would travel to, what clients I would see, what care I would provide for each client. However, the overall similarity involved aiding those who needed help. From helping with care for rising and retiring to mechanical lift transfers, I enjoyed helping all the clients I would see. 

I learned a great deal of how to help others. Most importantly I learned hoe different each client can be. It is extremely important to treat others how they want to be treated. I did my best to do so. 

This was an independent work environment, meaning I would drive home to home to see various clients. Connecting with team members was primarily through email in regards to updates about clients and work policies. 

The most difficult part of this job was the amount of driving there was. I believed that the schedule given could have included seeing clients who lived closer together, thus seeing more clients instead of driving more and seeing less clients.

The most enjoyable part of the job was helping each client. I learned a great deal of people, their history, their hopes, their dreams, and an abundance of life in someone else's eyes.

So it starts out by receiving a schedule that is limited. Senior staff get first pick. Newbies get what is left over. They will take clients from your schedule to accommodate senior staff. There is lots of driving involved so be prepared. Once was scheduled to drive out past Wallacetown which took a hour to get to , but staff from st. thomas only would of taken 28 min.  
You also need to keep a eye on pay stubs always lots of mistakes. they dont pay mileage. They do a thing called stipen where you would get 4$ per stop after the first scheduled client. so if you had 3 clients for the day 8$ dollars is all you would get for travel regardless of where these scheduled clients were located. it was very easy to travel a surplus of 200 km per day.
management is slow in getting the proper training for required lifts in homes. There is a lot favouritism . They make promises on hiring but dont deliver. You are pretty much left on your own. Been working in homecare for 20 plus years and would have to say this place is very low on the list for my recommendations.
But if you like to drive for nothing then go for it.  


Overall, love my job, however, it's a systemic issue of not getting travel time between clients, shift premiums would be nice for giving up time with family and friends during evening and weekends worked. It would also give more people the incentive to work as a PSW and reduce the strain of weekend book offs and workers calling in sick on their wknd to work. Now with the government recognizing PSWs hard work during the pandemic and subsidizing wages and offering paid training, more people will do this work which should allow the agencies the ability to fit in travel time and lunch breaks in our day. Right now, there is not enough people working in this field to allow for that and still get all the clients served each day.

It is a very hostile work environment and they treat their employees as low level servants meanwhile they are the work force for the company profit margin.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They make you work 7 days a week without overtime pay including making you work on your day off.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
the higher levels of Directors make all the money given to the company province however they pay their employees minimum wage and do not support staff.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
They book you to work started at 6 a.m. until 9 pm. During which time they double book you in homes or leave you with a 3 hour gap in your work day which equals no pay.  they change you day without notice and without your consent.

Worked with this company and only saw it go down hill the time I was with them. Was offered full time hours only got part time and management changed so often . Was never any drive time was not safe for psw no concern about health and well being for psw mental health status and clients were never happy or satisfied with management either.
Needs major over hall with management and schedulers. 
no incentive for employees or thanks and not much appreciation for work done.
Considered to be flexible and family oriented NOT the case.
I would not refer anyone to work with this company you only get one day notice of your schedule impossible to plan anything outside of work.
Terrible place to work only good thing was amazing loving clients who respected psws more then the company itself.

Worked there for two years, last year I ended up quitting due the extreme lack of communication and NO support in a major incident. I’m still from this day traumatized about a fall that happen that my supervisor never got back to me.   I also had a problem with a client son and they told me to suck it up especially after I had major PTSD do to a recent event. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AND LOVE TO OVER WORK YOU.They didn’t care and told me to suck it up and go back to work They will always blame the PSWs for anything that has happen in the clients home no matter what. Also thank god for no more sick days as the management there was with holding my sick pay that was allowed in 2018.  It ended with me going to the labor board.   Definitely think this company needs to be looked into.  Clients should get the care they neeed!!!
