Very nice set up, clean tidy, people are polite and nice. Coworkers are easy to get along with. Merchandising and stock people are also very kind. However this isn't a job to expect much from. You will soon realize that full time positions are only given to management, and even as a part-time stylist, you will not be guaranteed a fixed amount of hours per week. Expect to be given 0 hours for a week if you do not meet your sale goals for a couple of shifts. Even if you are bubbly, engaging, and confident, the store is often riddled with either 1. frugal customers, 2. a handful of loyal, high paying clients that already have a rapport with a senior stylist. The pieces are all expensive, so if you can get in a good sale, that should cover you nicely, but if you miss it and are unable to make up for it, prepare yourself to endure lower hours the coming week. Club Monaco gives stylists a massive discount on all their items to make up for the lack of commissions and low salary, however they are still too expensive to afford without handing back your paycheques. 

The environment is still competitive despite there being no commission involved. This is because the stakes are higher, forget about getting extra money! your fundamental and basic hours depend on these sales. Also, because there is no commission involved stylists/sales associates feel more comfortable in "sale-sharking" your client while you're briefly not around, (lets say because you've been asked to quickly cover a different part of the store by management etc.) and subsequently, you lose your sale to someone else.

Management team are often doing their best to be kind, polite and understanding, however they need to work on being more clear-cut, honest, and transparent verbally instead of beating around the bush, hiding behind formalities, or using documents you signed as a shield to say its not their problem. Many of the employees are young/or students, and having the courtesy and kindness of letting people know what's really going on and how it works would be very rewarding for the entire group.

The schedules are given very late in the week so you cannot plan your weekends/weekdays efficiently, you also have very little idea of when you will be slotted and for how long from week to week, making tasks like managing your finances and own personal time very difficult. 

Finally, after witnessing this on several occasions, be prepared to be asked to leave early on your given shift if the work environment is too slow and you are not making your sale goals. 

It's extremely difficult to build a real connection with the company and work your way up. This leads to a very high turnover rate of new people coming in. Your hard work is often unfruitful and unappreciated. You have very little incentive to stay committed to the job due to the overall fickle work environment. This results in a huge lack of trust within the company!! Did I mention your bags and coats get thoroughly checked every time you leave the store? even during your 15 minute breaks?

You can relegate this all to the "nature" of retail, but I think this company can do better.

- A typical day at work would involve accounting for potential cash imbalances for all 5 tills at the cash register, then ensuring that work supplies are in stock. I would cash out customers and process their returns as well, if they have any issues with the products or with the company, I would be the first to deal with the matter. I would also maintain the floor and sell products if the store required the support, however, my main duties require me to stay around or behind the cash desk.
- From this job, I have learned that organization is of paramount importance when attempting to run a business. The organization of our stocks and cash flow minimizes potential errors that would only diminish the efficiency and productivity of the store. 
- Additionally, my communication skills have been greatly ameliorated due to the fact that I had to deal with various issues that our customers have been faced with. Whether it was regarding our merchandise or a certain policy, my knowledge of my company and its products enabled me to deal with the matters in a effective manner, which would attempt to appease our customers whilst benefitting our company.
- What I enjoyed about my work is the positive relationship between management and its employees. This relationship enabled effective communication between both parties. This allowed the management team to better assess situations and deliver responses through their employees, which aimed to better target the situation. This positive relationship also gave rise to support from both parties, who felt that they did not report certain information due to the notion of obligation, but due to the consensual idea that helping each other would prove to lead to greater success.
- The hardest part of the job was dealing with troubled customers who felt entitled to things that would clash with our company policies. However, these situations are manageable, as we handle certain special cases in a case-by-case manner. This means we would handle these situations depending on its nature and merits.
-The most enjoyable part of the job were my co-workers and the clients we engage with on a regular basis. The sense of teamwork embedded in our mindset as workers allowed us to support one another to achieve the greater good, in which case is the success of the store as a whole. We would strive to best accommodate our clients, and it is clear that they are appreciative of that fact.

A former employee at the Thornhill location: I enjoyed my time there, thanks to the team I had and clients. I wish I can also say that about management. Just like any other retail job you will be expected to sell and make your goal.  It can be difficult at this location due to the type of clientele the store gets. If not, start looking for another job because you will NOT be given hours for the following week(s). My biggest advice: learn how to manage your time. In between trying to make sales, management will bombard you with random tasks to complete, simply because they're too lazy to do it themselves, or whatever they had to do in the office was more important. To succeed you need to have thick skin...I had grown adults yelling at me because they did not agree with our policy. Oh, and when you find yourself in that situation, don't bother getting your SM for assistance. She refuses to deal with customer issues and will purposely hide in the backroom. There were many times where customers wanted to speak to the manager and she would pass it off to Keyholders to deal with. Hilarious, since Keyholders really did not have the authority to "bend the rules". 

-Hardest part of the job I found was daily interactions with the SM. She was very condescending and I have personally experienced her belittle not only myself but entire team, and customers. Will cry and complain to the DM about every mishap...which not only makes YOUR team look bad but also shows YOUR lack of people management skills.

-Scheduling was not unfair. Was given all the closing shifts.  No life/work balance. You will be expected to cover all shifts, occasionally pulling a double shift because someone called in sick. All the while the SM does all the opening shifts and zero closing shifts. How is that fair? SM only concern is completing her 9-6 and nothing more.

- Workplace Culture: Every man for themselves. No recognition. No sympathy. No empathy. Zero appreciation.  Wasn't respected.

Company is worth exploring, just not this location.

A typical day at Club Monaco. A shift was always started with a chat in with the shift runner or manager on duty. We would quickly talk about the day how its been going so far what we need to accomplish andy client appointments that are scheduled for the day and so on. It was a very organized workplace. Very high end retail in my mind. Management was also great but very unsecured (as we changed 4 store managers in 5 months worth of time) Club Monaco really stood behind excellent customer service and we provided just that with 110% effort everyday. The most enjoyable part of the job was that we would never say no to a request of a client the sky was the limit for us when we wanted to satisfy our clients and meet there needs if they wanted a dress we didn't have in stock at our Pacific Centre location, we would grab the client some coffee of there choice as someone ran over and picked up the dress for them. We truly would do anything for our clients. The hardest part of the job was sometimes meeting those requests but at the end of the day we weren't allowed to send a customer out of the store unsatisfied wether it was waving the shipping fee for an item to be sent via next day air to the clients door step we would always go above and beyond for our clients.

Club Monaco has a very strong culture that is upheld and honored by every employee. Even during times of transitioning store management, employees maintain their professionalism and continue with their duties. My position was stock, and during hectic times (inventory/flip), the sales team would take turns coming into the back and helping me out when there was down time during the store. I also enjoyed that there were standards to measure my own personal performance. For example, the store requires that the stock associate receives, count, and tag 80 pieces in an hour, thus this gives me something to work towards too. I also like there was much autonomy of how to complete tasks and there was little micro management. The hardest part of this job was how you would get very attached to the stock room and don;t feel your work is appreciated because when sales associates just rummage carelessly. As in my case, you would have rescued it from a state of devastation and transform it to meticulously folded and sized perfection. My favourite part of the job was being able to sit, listen to music, and just being able to do the job in near solitude. Close second favorite, were the people I worked with, they were outgoing, very inclusive and welcomed new staff.

Just like the summary says, the management at Club Monaco has always been off-putting. I worked at the company for over a year and the store was under four different managers. The selling culture is absolutely horrifying. Many times the managers will tell you not to waste your time helping people who don't look like they will buy a lot. They push you to achieve selling goals and will shame you if you don't make it. 

The last manager is was under used to manage at Juicy, whose store closed down in the same mall. She then cut all the old employees' hours, saying that there are not enough wages to give everyone the shifts they want. But she turned around and hired four new employees, ALL from the old Juicy store she used to manage. I reported her to human resources before I departed from the company.

My coworkers were amazing. They were nice, open and funny and I still keep in touch with a lot of them because I enjoy their company. 

There are little to no opportunities for job advancements. They will lowball you in terms of wages. They expect lots and lots of work from you for very low wages and no commission. 

The best part of working at the company was the discount. Amazing discount for great clothes.

My typical day at work is to help customers the best style in according to their situations. I never get tired helping those customers because it is such a pleasure moment meeting new people and style them the best. I learned and gained lots of knowledge how to genuinely greet customers. Also, I have learned that cooperation is very important in a team as well. Everyday, our store sets a goal for a day, and our team puts much responsibilities and tries our best in order to achieve a goal that is given for that day. Management is in charge of scheduling our schedules and set a goal per daily. They are genuinely treating our team with compliments. My co-workers are very nice and they take much responsibility upon their work. They are energetic and honesty. Yet, I don't find any hardest part or difficulties of the job. My most enjoyable part of the job was, once a month, we are having a "Product Knowledge" meeting is the earlier morning, before the store opening, that is purposed to give employees knowledge about most of new collection represented by visual manager and the meeting is served with breakfast.

The job requires way too much work and tasks for such little pay. Biggest problem was getting paid 16$/h + no commissions. too much competition between workers (you need to meet sales target), which is almost never possible due to lack of customers and the amount of workers on the floor at the same time. If you do not meet sales target = they remove hours. There is also no commission, considering the amount of customer service we do. the only benefit is sales and in-store credits which aren't worth staying for. For the amount of work you do, you definitely should be paid more. coworkers were nice, managers were questionable, and very harsh and annoying from time to time. I would not recommend working, there are 100% better jobs with better pay and less work. The company is too focused on sales and has little to no benefits and incentives for employees to work hard!!!

At Club Monaco, there are rarely any customers coming into the store. The shifts are slow and sometimes you're asked to go home early if no one comes in for awhile. If you're seasonal, they will only give you about 4-6 hours a week. This isn't a part time job to pick up if you want to make a liveable wage. The store discount is good, but if you're only part time, you would be spending your entire cheque on the clothing. That's just not realistic. The management were great, all of them are friendly but its not enough to make up for the lack of things to do as a sales associate. 

Be prepared to approach everyone who comes into the store and remind them of all the sales going on. There is a sales quota to meet so if you're not comfortable with consistently trying to upsell customers, don't apply to this job. 

It's a good job to gain experience in retail, but not ideal for a long term position whether it be part time or full time. 

The management at Club Monaco is a hit or miss. As long as the numbers are there, management can treat their staff however they want and no one in upper management cares. Near the end of my employment, i would have anxiety going into work because I didn't know what I would be getting into that day. The clothes are nice, coworkers were great, and the discount was awesome but other than that, I don't see Club Monaco sticking around for very long if the management stays the way it is. Not commission based so there isnt really an incentive to sell or go above and beyond. Good luck getting a raise or any remotely positive recognition in any capacity for anything you do for the company! Stingy with compliments as much as they are with pennies. Apply somewhere else.
